Most of the country has experienced the big-time snow storm of recent days. Though it makes for hard travel and backache shoveling it is also quite beautiful....Took these pictures this morning and wanted to share them with my UMA family. I'm in rural Kansas. Having only a sometime, if-I-wanta type job it is pleasant to just look out over such a tranquil and white scene with no desire or need to step outside..ha!. These are pics out the front and back windows. Would be great if some of you would show how things look at your locale..........Buddy

Beautiful pics, Buddy! Can I come for a visit? I live in a great town and neighborhood but pics out my backyard would show the neighbor's house behind me - FAR too close for my likes.

Very nice, General. And, who would suspect that such a beautiful, normal looking abode would contain a veritable treasure trove of Monster Relics!

You're right. Any place that's really warm in winter isn't a proper place for a monster kid.

All I need is a wealthy, semi-retired MonsterKid to sponsor my move. Someone with..........I don't know........a large rural piece of land and a toy basement for me to stay in.
Here are a couple shots of the outside of our house around Xmas about four years ago:

Here in Lafayette, we have "weak" weather - 30 miles north, they get tons of snow - 30 miles south, tons of snow. West: snow. East: snow. Smack in the middle, Lafayette: A few sad, lonely, wistful flakes of "almost" snow. Weak.
We have had a pretty disappointing winter, snow wise, here in Spokanistan.
The snow surrounding Castle Famous in that picture probably exceeds our total snowfall this winter.
We have had plenty of sub freezing days, but very little snow.
But it is hit and miss.
Back in 2008/09 we had 97 inches, 60 of which fell in December alone.
I remember that snowfall in 2008. I was stuck trying to get back to Seattle, took me 12 hours to get over White's Pass. I moved to California, so now I just visit the snow.
I like the snowstorms. Makes good for watching "The Thing from Another World". We have a winter storm advisory for my area tommorow and I'm looking forward to it and I hope we get blasted!
We've had a lot of snow, but not anywhere near as much as in the east. Still, I'm sick of winter.
All your snow pics are so beautiful! I am ready to vacation at bigbud's winter resort! :) It's so crisp and lovely looking- until you have to shovel it out of the way....but I have a strong back, so I'm in!
I hate WINTER and I Hate SNOW....we lost power last night off and on because of this white powder plague...I am ready for Summer.

Carp, you are so right! Listen....you help me shovel this white stuff off the drive and we'll play-play-play in the toys! But....before you say yes, check out the first picture...this is what I am dealing with after today's new storm has dumped on us. The shovel is standing beside the depth of drifts covering my drive all the way down that row of Bradford Pear trees.....ouch....
Second pic....the critters are frozen in mid howl! No not really...that's a poured statue of two baby critters..ha! But you would be amazed at the racket the real howlers make around here after dark....like a convention of the Children of the Night.
Picture 3 is my garden house...not so snowed in.....which is great! Now I can pot and plant those ....hey wait....that ain't till Spring....drat!

bigbud- I underestimated the thickness of that snow! I really hope you have a blower or some kind of robot army to help you clear a path. My goodness! You must have been in the eye of EVERY snowstorm that has hit the U.S. this year! Those bradford pear trees look so beautiful, in spite of the fact that they are not wearing snowsuits...they are real troopers. I am gonna show this picture to my bradford pear trees and let them see how lucky they are- sometimes they can be such complainers. :)
I hope you get a thaw pretty soon! Isn't it about time for some springtime toy shows/auctions? Stay warm & dry, my friend.
I love winter but hate lying rodents!

QuoteBud............snowblower brother. Buy a snowblower
Had one.....every year I'd have it tuned and ready...ran smooth as silk-in the Summer. Winter came.....the thing wore me out trying to start it....it just wouldn't. So now it's the shovel. I've got a Toyota Rav 4 that gets through anything. I gave the drive a full day of shoveling then just hit the wall of snow with the Rav...I'm through to the street...all is good.
That monster card car is really something!
Well, the last Wintery pics I posted were a month ago....and here we go again. I love this stuff and it sure is pretty. Only drawback is the shoveling to get out the drive. But for today it's gazing out the windows and watching plenty of NCAA basketball! Think we got about 10 inches out of this storm.....

This picture echoes my sentiments about winter 100%!
I don't think Florida is any place for a Canadian myself.
Nice, it snowed here (north of SF) in 1972, 1981, and about 6 - 7 years ago. It was a BIG deal as you can imagine 8)
I love winter and I love the snow. Right now it is snowing outside...again! I don't think Spring will ever get here. Here's to 6 more months of snow!

"The Invisible Man" starts out with a snowing scene and the police later try to track him with footprints in the snow.
"The Deadly Mantis" takes place partly in a an arctic setting.
Or you can always watch a favorite of mine - "Fargo".
I like to match the movie to actual weather conditions, too.

Worked on a snow fort with the girls! Started off yesterday with a little sand-beach bucket but then it dawned on me that I had an old kitchen trash can in the garage. To bad it'll probably be melting in the next few days.......We didn't even get to start on the 2nd floor!

COOL FORT!
I would love to build a snow fort but our yard (we would only have room in the front) isn't fenced in and I don't want a fort made of or from yellow snow. Of course, I could wake up at 3 AM some morning and 'commando' a snow fort in a neighbor's yard that is fenced in or hop over my friend's fence across the street and build one in her yard .. hmmmm .. ;)
An imposing fortress!!
'Love seeing the photos with snow.
'Gives me memories of living in NY, walking to the end of our dead end street, hiking to the top of a large hill and sledding down it all morning and afternoon. Since it was slippery to climb up, it made it more of an adventure. Being kids we could hike up a hill and ride down it all day. 'Eventually build jumps to make it more intense.
'Now in CA with NO snow. Thanks for the memories!
It's been a deep freeze here in Iowa for the longest time. But I'm not b*tching as I was w/out AC during the hottest part of July, & it's still fresh in my memory.
Northeast ohio has been cold and snowy for the last 3 months......I love it!

Man Tries To Break Through Frozen Swimming Pool Of Ice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4-DAI5RZZw#ws)
In Fort Lauderdale .. Winter is the time of birds! It's when the snow birds flock down, overweight men don Speedos and strut up and down the beach, Grandmas don bikinis and flirt with young men. Then everyone goes to early birds and has a four course supper at 3:00 to beat the rush. Then the looney birds drive below speed level in the left lane, confused and stop at green lights before hitting the supermarkets at 6 PM when the working people stop to pick stuff up on their way home from work. The snow birds then wonder why the supermarkets are so crowded 'that late at night' and give cashiers a look of confusion when asked how they want to pay for their groceries .. after ten minutes, they attempt to use the credit card swipe.
I have to laugh at a good friend, who swears if they hit the Lotto, that she and her husband will move to Florida for at least six months a year.

I recently saw a weather report for somewhere back East that showed pictures of an area that was completely empty of cars/people. The reporter was explaining that local officials had shut down the whole region that day and were advising everyone to stay home.
I was puzzled, because even though everything was white, I didn't see any of the huge drifts that this southern Californian associates with traffic tie-ups.
Then the reporter explained that the whole area was covered with from ½" to 1" of ice - everything. One big, uneven skating rink.
Brrrr!
That never even occurred to me.
In his State of the Union spin Hussein announced that human-caused global warming "is a fact" (despite the real facts that the earth is 4.5 billion years old, has had ice ages, and we've been keeping weather records for all of about 100 years out of 4.5 billion). Well, just try and convince the folks back east about "global warming". Meanwhile, as you know MFS, we just had a major storm here in So. Cal., and here's a look at some of the damage...
