Title: Sunday Show-n-Tell 12/09/07
Post by: raycastile on December 09, 2007, 02:25:25 AM
Let's see what you've got!

I know, every day is show-n-tell here.  But I hope you will keep this UMA tradition going by saving something special to show us every Sunday!

A 1960s-era Halloween store display light fixture, featuring a Strangestein and a wild eyed Dracula along with a pumpkin and flying witches. About 2 feet wide X 6'' high and 6'' deep.   H-E-A-V-Y plastic and steel with a fluorescent fixture within, this thing is built like an old tavern beer light.

Besides the better known Horrorscope, there is also another Horror Scope.  This one was made by Chad Valley in the UK in 1974.  It has a filmstrip around the outside, and when you turn the filmstrip, as it passes over a viewing area, you can see monster cartoons inside.  The filmstrip is not changeable, it's made to be the only one.  It's tin litho with a plastic end.  Although made in the UK, the ones I've seen offered on eBay have all come from Spain (as did mine).  They pop up every once in a while and the kaleidoscope collectors like them as well.  Those guys can drive up the price on a scope, and I've seen these sell for close to $100 before.  This one didn't have a bad or "hidden" title though and it fell through the cracks I guess because I got it for the opening bid of $9.00.

Here is the inside door of my Monster house..
with my Monster cookies display and Glow in the dark Frank poster.
I love glow in the dark stuff and have it all over the place in my Monster House.

It is so cool when you turn off the lights in there.. for a few minutes at least :)

You'll have to get out the red and blue glasses for these. I made these using pictures I took at "Doctor Shocker's House of Horror"

I thought that I would join in on my first ever Sunday Show and Tell by showing my Monster Castle display. From the looks of it, Frankenstein looks to be in quite the bind.  :)

These monster hands were a holy grail for me. I've wanted a pair for years & was recently able to aquire a mint pair. They were sold for a long time in the back of FM & made an appearance on the cover of FM2.

I love those hands, especially the colors.  They're not like any rubber hands I've seen before.  How do you know they are the same ones in the ad?

Lets see... they match many old photos in early issues of FM, I remember them myself as I had them as a kid. They are the same hands used on the cover of FM2. Even the ad drawing matches all up if you look at it (colorful rubber claws..). They were THE monster hands in the '50's & '60's, every kid from back then had a pair...You could buy them at any place that sold masks etc. But they did disappear suddenly from the market. I've been looking for a pair since mine vanished back in the early '60's. I'm not sure who made them, maybe Topstone.

Ok, well, I haven't got much that's terribly interesting, but in the simple spirit of participation, I'll post these. Every year all the Japanese robot (my other hobby) collectors get together and this year Bob Eggleton came along. Turns out he's a friend of a friend and lives about an hour away. He brought some art prints to sell, including two he did of the Creature for a show in San Francisco last October. I couldn't decide which to get since one had nicer, brighter colors, but I liked the theater ad on the other. I decided to just grab both and Bob signed them for me.

I suppose my Sunday Show-N-Tell contribution could have easily been posted within an art thread somewhere else here at the forum, but then I wouldn't have a post here in this thread! So to heck with it.

How many of you remember the Universal Monsters Portfolio that was released back in 1991 by Avalon Products? This was a portfolio offered through Diamond Select for sale in comic and collectibles shops.

The portfolio consisted of 10 different autographed lithos each measuring 12" x 16" in size. Some of the art is great, and some of it is so-so. I love the abstract and dark Bride piece. The Creature art is bitchin' too!

Isn't that the job of the General? To present badges of honor to UMA WACS is a job exclusively reserved for me. Yes, I very carefully, and meticulously pinned those buttons to their shirts.  :)

Terry, you are just doing your duty and I appreciate it.  We used to call it "taking one for the team", but the pickens weren't usually so...nice. ;)

Okay - here's my first attempt to post a pic within my massage.  This is a revised version of the Timeless Treasures Recordable Talking Wall Clock that I inserted classic monster stills into (as opposed to my family pics for grandma).  I then popped in a DVD for each movie and recorded a five second sound bite.  Of course the silent movies I used music for (Phantom - Tocatta in D Minor and Experiment in Terror for London After Midnight).    My first of hopefully many Show-n-tell pics.

I don't have any monster pics to post yet but this is a huge plus for me enjoying our new "home".  I love to see all the great stuff everyone has.  This is definitely a plus!
