Title: Reproduction Frankenstein Speaker Head Sells for $510.00
Post by: Monsters For Sale on November 07, 2012, 12:30:15 AM
I remember going nuts on one of these a few years ago and plunking down $130.00.  I was sure I paid top dollar, but I wanted to at least have a nice copy of this expensive collectible.

This just sold on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REPRODUCTION-FRANKENSTEIN-SPEAKER-HEAD-IN-REPRODUCTION-TYPE-BOX-/350632712322?ru=http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=350632712322&_rdc=1&nma=true&si=3GhAr%2Fo1zWzstg0SeejKwJfjd8E%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/REPRODUCTION-FRANKENSTEIN-SPEAKER-HEAD-IN-REPRODUCTION-TYPE-BOX-/350632712322?ru=http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=350632712322&_rdc=1&nma=true&si=3GhAr%2Fo1zWzstg0SeejKwJfjd8E%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557)

Now I don't feel quite so foolish.

I'm not clear on why anyone would want a copy of a box for their copy of a collectible - to each his own.

To me this is insane.$50-$100 possibly?

And to think I was on the fence about paying almost the price of a model for a cardboard box when those imaginary Aurora model boxes came out.  (The ones that showed us "what if" Aurora had done kits for the Nautilus, the Fly, etc.)

I saw this and was really amazed, it is a nice piece but I can't see paying anywhere near this much for it.  I may never own one now if this is the new benchmark price.  It simply comes down to supply and demand, no one is making these now and unless owners are willing to part with them, they will continue to be hard to get.

These were sold in finished and unfinished state. That one had original finish on it, for whatever that is worth.  I think these go for $250 to $500.  I used to have 2 of them. I replaced the cheap speaker with an Altec speaker out of a computer speaker set, and used them as my computer speakers for many years.  I've seen them go for over $1000, but that was a seller who used some pretty confusing description that made it sound like it was original, even though they said it was not original in a roundabout way.

It was not easy to find a full range speaker that would fit.

I had no idea these were that popular.

Seems I remember other collectors kinda talking down my reproduction when I bought it.  They gave me the impression that I had overpaid for a cheap copy.

I've always liked mine, but never thought of it as having much of a market value.  It didn't bother me, because I don't buy as an investor.  I buy as a collector.

I would like to have one for the same reason, I just like the look and I could never afford an original.  I would never get one thinking it was an investment.

Well, now that you've told 5,000 more collectors about it, it should bring a nice, high price.

I am a really good painter. If anyone wants their repro head speaker painted to look identical to a real head speaker (and these aren't even close), I can do it. On the shelf, indistinguishable. I have done so for many for collectors.

BTW, I painted the Tuscany Wolfman in the center spread of Kirk Hammet's book- that came from me.

Of course, if you want one painted incredibly realistic, I can do that too. PM me if interested.

If i ever get one and decide to not tackle it myself your my dude Bob. I mean who better to paint them than a guy who owns one?  :D
