Title: No good Wolfman sculpts?..I disagree...Hasbro Prototype Sculpt
Post by: knewby on August 11, 2012, 08:23:37 AM
Not to overtake the gentleman's Wolfman score thread, it got me thinking. Sure Wolfman seems to suffer the most, but I feel its mainly the lousy paintjobs he seems to get. Sideshows's 8 inch looks great to me. But perhaps the most overlooked due to a really lousy factory paint is the Hasbro 12" Wolfman from the 90's. Proportion-wise, he most looks like the beefy guy Chaney was. And the sculpt is fantastic when you see the prototype (test shot) in its raw unpainted form..take a peek and share thoughts, comments.................Larry

It looks better than the factory paintjob. But still off to me. Wolfman is my favorite. So I am especially picky (and thus disappointed) with regards to sculpts. I did like yagher's diorama he did for Sideshow. Great Wolfman face.

Mike Hill seems to be able to eat, sleep and breathe great Wolfman likenesses.

That a Frenk meets Wolf make-up.  Blame the colors on the idjits at Umiversal.    Even worse, they were originally going to be flocked!!    I saw one and it looked hor-ri-ble.   Like a Gi-joe gone wrong.

I've always thought the Hasbro 12" Wolf Man was better than the Sideshow version. The Wolf Man is easily the weakest of Sideshow's 12" classic monsters. They should have revisited that character later in the series.

I agree, Ray, the Sideshow 12 inch Wolf Man is just far too skinny and he only looks right in a crouched over position. I'm glad I still have my Hasbro Wolf Man.

I also have always liked the Hasbro Wolfman over the Sideshow one. I HATE the skinny loose jointed bodies Sideshow used on all of their 12 inch monsters, and it was especaially bad on the Wolfman. I actually added some padding to the inside of the shirt on mine.

Yep! Me too! I wrapped his torso and thighs with paper towel strips to bulk him up a bit.

I'm fond of the Hasbro Wolf Man as well. Thanks for posting that unpainted prototype.

Very cool to see a test shot, thanks! I'm in agreement with you about the paint on Hasbro's Signature Series Wolf Man, and feel that way about the whole line. The sculpts were well above the paint (a fate the DST's action figure and retro Mego figures have suffered as well, but nowhere near to as great an extent).   Mind sharing the story of when and where you got this great figure? We all love to hear the stories.

Absolutely identical to my feelings on that figure. Loose and skinny...no good for Wolfman. The face was a little off too.

Mike Hill's Wolfman pf remains my favorite mass Wolfman collectible to date.

I really wanna see NECA do a Universal Monsters series. I love heir stuff. Plus--those headknockers likenesses were so good that I boguht them. And I hate bobble heads.

The Headknockers portraits were all done by the brilliant Ray Santoleri and are exceptional. It's like getting well-scupted/painted garage kits for $15. They remind me of something I used to see in Famous Monsters when I was a kid that had had perfect heads with small bodies. Maybe tee-shirt iron-ons or something.

This sculpt does justice to Chaney's likeness, but I think the lower lip is a bit too large. Overall though I think it is a decent sculpt.
