anybody ever played this game? It's supposed to be one of the worst video games of all time and I would like to have it, just to say I have it - There are people who say the game was so awful, copies of it as well as semi-trailer truckloads of Atari boxes, cartridges, and systems from an Atari storehouse in El Paso, Texas were destroyed and buried at the landfill within the city - I would like to play it as a fan of the film, I think it'd be awesome - you can get it on Amazon and other places

- also there are some cool 1982 christmas commercials about the game on YouTube
Some people think that due to the (true) landfill story, the game is super rare. That's not the case. I've found tons of copies of these games for a buck at various flea markets, shops, etc.
Now, having played it, its... not that bad. I mean, don't get me wrong, its bad, but for an Atari game, its meh at best, bleh at worst.
I had "E.T." on the Atari 2600 as a kid. I don't remember hating it as much as I hated the Atari 2600 version of "Pac Man." I remember that it could get frustrating. You had to run around game screens, dropping into pits and finding the pieces needed to build the radio to "call home." Every time you fall into a pit, you have to levitate your self out, even if it's empty (which it usually is) and this eats up a lot of game time. But the real frustrating part is this police officer that runs around randomly to foil your plans. Once you get all the radio parts to the right area, it takes E.T. a couple of minutes to build the machine and send the message. If the cop comes running into the screen, he'll take all your parts and you have to start all over. There's no way to predict if he'll show up or not and no way to stop him if he does.
It wasn't nearly as good as the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" game, which was a really nifty and challenging adventure.

I have seen a few clips of the ET video game on YouTube, this is awesome, a walkthrough!
I never owned an Atari unit, but I do have a cardboard standee of the ET game. I got it from the store I worked at when this first came out. I remember people lining up to buy it!!

I never played ET, but like this one better as well.
It is bad...really bad. Annoyingly bad.
My ET standee is buried in my studio closet, but I did find these. Both of them are about 18 inches high and a foot wide, and hung from the ceiling at the store where I worked in 1982. I mainly snagged them because I liked that style of artwork. I did play Centipede in the arcades back then, but never played Warlords.

I really like the centipede one you have there. Let me know if it needs to find a good home...
Those are awesome!
I actually had the E.T. game and beat it. And yes it did suck lol.
Okay, I dug this out. It's in pretty decent shape for being thirty years old! Elliot has a crease through his neck, but other than that it's not bad. It stands about 4 feet tall.

I take that it already has a good home illoman?? ;)
Although ET was not a great game by any means; its legend as being the reason for the video game crash of 84 is overblown to epic proportions.
I still have my Atari 2600 and all my games, including ET...personally I never liked the ET game but it wasn't as bad as it's reputation
I have 2 Atari 2600s in my closet, along with a big box full of games. But I don't remember if I have ET. Which either means I don't, or it's so lame that I never played with it much ;D
I bought this game on clearance for $1.00 at a Kaybee Toys back in the '80's. At the time I was picking up lots of ET items on clearance for pocket change, and had a pretty large collection going. I sold off most of those items on eBay years ago. A collector in France bought most of the items, but I can't remember if he was the one who bought the Atari game.

I had this game when I was a kid, and played it a LOT, but, honestly, I think I had more fun trying to glitch the game than actually beating it!
My memory's fuzzy, but I seem to remember there being a glitch if the federal agent ever showed up while ET was calling the mother ship.
I suppose it says a lot about a game if it was more fun to break it than play it!
Seed Murda that was hilarious!! A guy at work was telling me how this game essentially bankrupted Atari.

Part of the myth.
I have read about the video game crash of '84, it's interesting

that is awesome! I would like to have that! that looks like it was probably from when it was released in '82
There was a glitch that let you crush Elliott with the spaceship. If I recall you had to get to the call ship zone and run all your energy out. Then when the ship is about to come exhaust your last bit of energy. Elliott will come to revive you and then the ship will land on him and kill him. I used to do it all the time.
The game wasn't nearly as bad as it's reputation makes it out to be. I enjoyed the hell out of it as a kid. But then again I loved anything related to ET back then.
