Here are a few of the ones I have and was wonderin' what else you might suggest to add to the list:
Alien-Goldsmith
The Bride of Frankenstein-Waxman
Creature From The Black Lagoon-Salter
Dracula-Kronos Quartet (recent creation)
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken-Mizzy
The Best of Godzilla 1954-1975
Outer Limits-Frontiere
If there is a previous thread on this subject, a link would be most appreciated. Thanks folks.
Wow! Where to begin?
First, go to Monstrous Movie Music and buy everything.
http://www.mmmrecordings.com/
So, we just talkin' horror/monsters, maybe some sci-fi, if it's monstery enough (like Alien)?
You like Goldsmith? What about "Poltergeist" (I & II), or the "Omen" trilogy. Also "The Mephisto Waltz", "Magic", "The Other", "Twilight Zone: The Movie", "Gremlins" and "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (not horror, but you can't live without that one!).
"King Kong" (Steiner), of course. (The Morgan/Stromberg rerecording on Marco Polo is very good.)
There have been many classic horror/Universal horror/Hammer horror rerecords, on Marco Polo, Silva Screen and a few other lables.
I love the "Horror Rhapsody" album with the Universal horror suite and the "Horror Express" soundtrack on the flipside...that's a great two-sided coin that really delivers, for me.
I have heard that Best of Godzilla album mentioned, and that one is pretty darn good too. Thing has everything on it, all my favorite tracks from the Godzilla films.
The Dawn of the Dead soundtrack is also a big favorite from the 70's...
Ooooo cool site! Thanks for posting that link!

*slaps forehead (hard) with hand* Yes, I have the Steiner Kong soundtrack....how I left it off I do not know. Probably the best in the lot IMO. Goldsmith's Star trek is top-shelf, and on my shelf as well. The Klingon Battle track is outstanding. I will have to look into the others you mentioned....now, to that site you posted.

All of their recordings are still available and highly recommended. THE BLOB is their first release that uses the original recordings. All the earlier CDs are beautifully reconstructed stereo recording of the scores (or cues).

I remember ordering my friend this one:
Never did hear if he enjoyed it. Thought there was a similar looking one like the above, but I must be wrong. I will have to check with him and see if I might "borrow" it for a while. 8) Have you ordered from them Mike?

Their 2nd CD (More Monstrous Movie Music) has a similar montage style cover.

I always order direct from them. More money for them, more chance they'll do another CD! They have audio samples from all their CDs on the website.

What Marricone scores do you have for this genre, Ray?
I might be leaving something out, but scanning my Morricone playlist, I see music from: The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Four Flies on Gray Velvet, The Cat O'Nine Tails, Danger: Diabolik, Lizard in a Woman's Skin, Black Belly of the Tarantula, Human Beasts, Exorcist II: The Heretic, The Thing, The Stendhal Syndrome.

A little Herrmann to start my day. Good morning.
I am a HUGE fan of film scores! My iPod is stuffed to the iGills with horror movie music!
My favorite contemporary composer is Graeme Revell, followed quickly by folks like Marco Beltrami, Tyler Bates and Ceiri Torjussen. I can listen to these guys' work at pretty much any time, and I'm happy.
However, there is SOOO much great music from the past that also has a permanent place on my iPod. I've found myself listening to a lot of James Bernard lately, especially his Hammer Frankenstein film work. Hans J. Salter's Creature From the Black Lagoon and anything by Ronald Stein.

How about one that most people tend to think isn't a "monster" movie, even though it is???
This movie's soundtrack reawakened the whole soundtrack genre in 1975, and made John Williams a household name and was the first in a long line of genre movie sountracks that now includes all 6 Star Wars films, The Indiana Jones' 4, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., the first two Harry Potter films???
I speak, of course, of one of the most recognizable themes EVER... that of JAWS!!!
Absolutely. Great score by Johnny Williams. I recently picked up the Anniversary Edition of the score.
This is a push, but what the heck.

Save a few tracks here and there, you would be hard pressed to tell that the queues were written for horror movies. Still, great stuff!
I know this would really be classified as fantasy but I gotta say that the sound track for the 1st Conan is just killer. It's so strong and at times bombastic. IMO a must have for anyone that enjoys film scores.
I had not heard it in a few years and found it in a box in the garage :o. Huh how did it get there?
LOVE IT.

One of the few I still kick myself for not getting. Been waiting for the issue with extra tracks to come down a bit. Never has. :-\

A very long time ago, I was surfing the web and found a site that was selling the soundtrack to the Hammer Film The Mummy (1959) on CD. This is one of my personal favorites, really like the main theme. Anyway, like an idiot I thought I'd go back to the site later, but failed to bookmark it, and never found the site since.
That concludes my tale. Has anyone ever seen This sountrack for sale on CD? If so please post the link. Thx!

Yes, a great score. I actually wore out my cassette of it. It was by Basil Poledouris.

Are any of you soundtrack collectors interested in soundtracks on vinyl? You know those old fashioned, black 33 1/3 rpm flat discs?

Indeed I am, Jim. Just picked up a turntable this past summer (Pro-Ject III) in order to meet my vinyl craving that lay dormant for much too long. My main (but not total) focus is soundtracks, especially those that have a jazz flavor to them (Mancini, Elmer Bernstein, some 50-70's tv shows, etc.), but by no means am I limiting myself to just that genre. I have been looking for some monster type platters, but they seem few and also can be pretty pricey. It could be though that I just do not know what to look for in this genre. In fact, my bi-line at another forum I haunt is "Enjoys traveling at 33 1/3 RPM." Might have to add that here. :D

Just a matter of how badly you want one, Kharis:

I have paid a bit more for a couple soundtracks in the past. However, unless they run another 1,000-3,000, this may stay out of print for some time. But I am just guessing.
Thx for the heads up Bogey! I'll be setting sixty dollars down on the table for a new copy. Pricey, but it is a favorite.

Great albums hhwolfman. Always wanted the Famous Monsters Speak, Horror Movies Themes, and Vampire at the Harpichord seeing them in Famous Monsters magazine growing up. Finally got Famous Monsters Speak and Vampire on the Harpsichord recently, but on CD.
