One thing I hate about the UK is that Halloween has become less and less celebrated. It's very close to Bonfire night and people go crazy for that instead. I will keep a beady eye open and if I find any cool UK merch, then I will post links up here.
There are a few fun cheesy items here: http://www.thelaughingstock.co.uk/acatalog/Halloween_Prop_Decorations.html (http://www.thelaughingstock.co.uk/acatalog/Halloween_Prop_Decorations.html)

My wife found these lil buggers at the local Dollar Tree. She said there were a few more like a mummy, a witch and a few she couldn't recall. I love these kinds of knockoffs and for a buck...well you know ;).................................Larry

Many of you may recall a series of dioramas that Dept 56 released a few years back featuring four of Universal's Monsters: Dracula, the Creature, the Monster and the Bride.  They originally retailed at about $60 a piece.  TJ Maxx Department Stores (HomeGoods) have received shipments of these and are selling them at significantly reduced rates of about $12-$15 each.  This is a great deal on these.  I was able to pick up a complete set, but quantities are limited.  If you're interested in these awesome display pieces, I suggest heading down to a TJ's or HomeGoods near you and checking out the Halloween aisle.  My store also had a shipment of Dracula snowglobes from Dept 56 too.  I just thought I'd give you all a heads-up if any of you were interested.

OLD FUDDY DUDDY'S HALLOWEEN RANT
-------------------------------------------

I may be in the minority here, but I'm bummed. In visiting a couple of stores and their Halloween setups this week, it has become blatantly obvioius that in the last 15 years the overall look of Halloween product is looking more and more the same, and that all the companies just copy each other. Nobody seems to have an imagination of their own. I was well aware that this copying thing went on years ago, as a friend of mine who makes props (Dwayne-Propmasters) used to talk about it all the time when we'd go to the Halloween show. A few years ago he made a dwarf-ish figure of an 'evil clown with knife', and sure enough, now there are 3 or 4 of them on the market. Even Post copied it. Same with the 'floating ghost' figures from several years ago. Now everyone and their uncle makes them...even in Walmart. Yup. Everything looks the same.

Way too much on the gore end of it, too.  Halloween used to be fun, and going to Woolworth's Halloween aisle as a kid was an annual trek I always looked forward to (and it didn't start in the middle of summer, BTW!) . Again I stress the fun end of it. There weren't severed limbs and bloody women in cages that scream hanging everywhere. To me, this stuff is not the Halloween I wish I could remember. And we wonder why kids are so screwed up in the head!

I need a kinder, gentler Halloween. With more devils, pumpkin men, witches, and Universal Monsters that don't look like Fred MacMurray under the makeup.

I guess there is a dim light at the end of the tunnel, perhaps, with the quiet trend that has started at the Home Goods-type stores: those "craft show" looking paper mache pumpkin and skeleton men that have slowly crept into the aisles (I'd like to see them in hard plastic!). For my tastes, they are a refreshing step in the right direction.

Thanks but, not quite exactly. A previous post by someone else here sent me to Michael's to investigate a "generic Frankenstein". Who? Please step forward whoever you were! I do however claim coinage of the name "Fakenstein" as appliedto that dimpled Frankendumpling.

Here are a couple other Halloween doodads I've picked up new so far besides the little bust. Part of the 2008 Lemax stuff, I had posted somwhere before and got a big no comment on these (perhaps I offended by naming that one "Thai-stick man"?) Anyway I think they're ok but then I like that 1:32 scale stuff. Barely but still Monsterry:

Monster Bob I couldn't agree more. Although it is still early and the big stores have yet to replace Back-to-School with Halloween, 99% of what I see so far is ghoul, zombie, bloody corpse etc. related. The rest would be skeletons and witches. I'm good with those, but all of the afore mentioned are of human derivation. Since when can't Halloween be about Classic Monsters? And PLEASE cool it on the inflatables - Bleeeeccch!

Still waiting for Walgreen's Wmart Kmart TRU Snyders Menards Thrift Shops Target etc to get busy gettin spooky

Two weeks ago Sunday, while buying a very large armful of fake flowers at Dollar Tree to help populate "The Secret Garden" I saw that Dollar Tree had already started their Halloween aisle and there were quite a few nice looking medium sized skeletons and a few Gargoyle type beasties and a few kid-friendly Frankenstein type monsters--but like the clerks there always say "The truck comes on Tuesday and there'll be more stuff on the truck."
So far the local Wally World has shown no signs of Halloween aside from greeting cards made by Hallmark but the proper Hallmark store has already started putting out their Halloween stuff like the talking "Trunk O'Treats" that has a voice slightly Karloffian.

We mentioned the double sided 12" Medusa bust in the "we must! we must!" thread, but I don't think anyone posted a pic. Here it is, with a generic little vampire one in the first. These were available at Michael's for $19.99 (Medusa) and $1.99 (vampire).

Sad to say but I've been noticing the steady departure of the classic monsters from Halloween for some now, certainly since the early part of the decade. I suppose one reason for this was the waning of the Universal Monster Revival of the late '90s but I fear the problem runs deeper still.

Take a particularly Halloweenish example -- inexpensive monster masks. Around 2000, companies like Illusive Concepts were producing all kinds of licensed unimonster masks but IC was soon bought out by the seasonal-products conglomerate Paper Magic and the masks were made no more. For a while Paper Magic did offer some unlicensed rip-offs (masks, hands, props etc.) but even these have now disappeared from the shelves at Halloween. And I suspect the main reason is that Paper Magic has never bothered to reapply for a Universal license and has no interest in doing so.

The only major mask company that does now have a license is Rubie's but with one exception (The Creature mask, hands and feet which were released a few years ago) Rubie's hasn't produced anything new in ages. If you check their catalogue, it's still the same generic vacuforms and $10 masks which were available back in the '90s. True, Rubie's has a Universal license but they obviously don't want to do anything with it. Worse still, I assume this is ultimately a marketing decision -- gore and mutilation yes, Frankie and The Woofman no.

Otherwise, the only classic monsters (including toys) I've found at Halloween in recent years have been outright caricatures (Gemmy-type stuff) or products (like the Lemax Frankenstein bust above) which try so hard to avoid copyright infringement that they are almost unrecognizable. T'is a sad state of affairs and I fully share Monster Bob's pessimism....

You know Michael's almost always has a 40% off coupon so a large Medusa two-face for 12 bucks isn't bad...course nowhere to put the dang thing but what else is new!

I have to agree with Roh and Monster Bob. The reason for my joining this forum was its attention to
werewolves ,creatures (both Frankenstein's and the Lagoon type),vampires and mummies.
Everywhere else including many of our retail outlets (who shall remain nameless)seem to have
forgotten all the traditional monsters and have opted for whatever fad is popular this year !

I don't have a pic yet, but along with the two-sided medusa, Michael's has another bust the same size with a slight resemblance to Vincent Price. I've been meaning to get back and pick one up. Does anyone have a pic of that one (sorry if I've missed it in a previous thread...)?

Wal-Mart will begin setting out Halloween items around September 2nd. I'm curious to see what movie assortment they'll have this year. The Halloween season is usually a good time to find cheap DVDs of horror classics at Wal-Mart.

Hey MonsterBob,
You ae not the minority. I fully agree with you. Halloween comes around and instead of getting all geared up for the Universal goodies that should be there, I mostly sit back and watch. You would think Universal would at least give us one season of merchandise. I just don't get excited about all the generic monster merchandise. If it wasn't for the classic monsters, they would not be able to make all of these knock-off monsters. Also if someone makes something (like the Dollar Tree items and the Target pants and shorts) and doesn't get their permission, Universal is right on it. I know all about licensing but you would think Universal would see other companies selling their bootleg stuff and would make legit items for us to collect. It has even come down to I have bought a couple of generic things and put a halloween mask on it just to make it Universal. Sort of a do-it-yourself Universal Monster kit. Let' turn the clock back to 1991 when they celebrated the 60th anniversary of the monsters and merchandise was everywhere. Now we are lucky to get a repackaged DVD from them. Oh the Pain!

I agree with you Steve there is a market for these items, what would you rather have a SpongeBob theme or Universal horror for a party? It would be a shame if they waited until 2031 to grant the licenses , by then most of us will be meeting the old stars in person! As for the U.K it's all back to school no Halloween in sight.

The last few Halloween retail seasons have been pretty lame.  But then...there always seems to be some little surprise item like the jigglers or dollar store figurines.  I'm still waiting for this year's "surprise."  Maybe the surprise will be that there isn't anything.

I hope that's not the surprise.

A few year's back I was really surprised to see actual Lugosi licensed Universal Monsters party supplies.  I wish they would have done more with that line.  The images of the Monsters were some of the best I have ever seen.

QuoteMaybe the surprise will be that there isn't anything.

But what was last year's surprise? Not the jigglers or the Dollar Tree stuff (and DT had a lot - the figures, playing cards, finger puppets, big posters, slime/goo) I mean they were out there but they weren't new last year.  Was the Toy Island stuff around Halloween? The giant Pez? Sadly it may come as NO surprise if the Monsters are still dormant. That's why I love to hit the thrift stores - you never know what'll turn up. To a regular shelf stocker Dracula and Frankenstein are Halloween characters. That's where the surprises could be.

Make some room for me on your soapbox Bob because I couldn't agree more. Scoot over a little. Thank you. It seems like with every Halloween I find myself celebrating a memory and not the season itself. Sure, I've got two little boys with whom I can experience Halloween through, but still, it's a far cry from what Halloween used to be. Streets filled with hundreds of kids on a warm Autumn night. And the trick-or-treating would go on all night long. It was an event that was filled with anticipation for that one dreamy night. Nobody would even think of going to a "family treat night" at the local mall. Nowadays, it seems more apparent that they're trying to take Halloween off the streets and put it in a community center or shopping mall. I guess I can see why with all the sickos around. Speaking of sickos .. this brings me to my next rant (or astute observation).

QuoteI need a kinder, gentler Halloween. With more devils, pumpkin men, witches, and Universal Monsters that don't look like Fred MacMurray under the makeup.

I'm going to blame it all on films like the Coffin Joe flicks. Sick, depraved, and sadomasochistic influences within our culture have poisoned Halloween of old. Little boys who used to dress up like the Frankenstein monster are now dressing up like Coffin Joe; breaking bottles over peoples heads and gouging out little girls eyes. And then taking their victims trick-or-treat bags and scattering the candy all over the street. There's no turning back now. We're doomed. Halloween is dead. And where's Raymond Castile at? I'd like to take this soapbox and hit him right over the head with it. ;)

His stuff is one of a kind... and he doesn;t always use the same design or pattern on later attempts at the same subject. If yo ufollow that photobucket link I posted, you'll see a number of different creature jacks hes done over the years.

When I first saw him selling them on ebay, they'd end at $60-$70.. and I was too cheap (or broke) to pick on up.. now they end between $150 and $270 I think.

I wonder how long it'll be before a major manufacturer stars making something like them manufacturered?

A set of UM ones that matched and sold for $20 each would be SO sweet.

Check ebay out for pumpkinking77, and search his completed items for that joker auction.. you can see what it closed at that way.

He usually sells about 20-30 new jacks a year I think.

Yeah, those are some of the nicest looking carvings I've seen. I could see a company mass-producing something like them, but it's not nearly as cool as having a one of a kind, hand-carved piece.

I had tried looking up his eBay ID, but I couldn't find any completed items. But I'm sure Mr. J went way over my poor college student budget. Oh, well. Nice to admire, anyway.

Ok meager pickins so far but I found this at the Dollar Tree, not in with the Halloween stuff which they were just starting to bring out (check back tomorrow)

NICE Kong for a buck! I'm not too into plush stuff but the artwork on the tag is from an original poster - I guarantee you've seen it before, can you tell me where?

Next - when I say meager I mean MEAGER as in barely Frankensteinable:

It's one of those "screaming screechers" or whatever, found at Michael's. He had that crazy long hair but he visited my basement barbershop and then got some proper black acrylic hair!

Saving the coolest by far for last is a thrift store find, an LP on a shelf with a bunch of used smiling witch candleholders:

Wow!  I can't believe people are spending that much on carved funkins.  Those things can be picked up for next to nothing after Halloween but of course you have to carve them yourself.  Here's 2 that I carved a few years ago-

(http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/zombiehorror01/l_1ab4fb1b999daadb4d18fbe59569c2c5.jpg)(http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/zombiehorror01/l_c9d95fbe2c5976d10b32f43720352cbe.jpg)

Not quite as fancy as pumpkinkings but they do for me.  I have 4 more funkins I bought last year that I still need to carve the other Universal Monsters into.

Was at Walgreens today and noticed that they are putting out their Halloween items but nothing really caught my eye, also Wal-mart has cards (no Universal this year) out but no other merchandise just yet.

Are they finally coming back?!  The Dollar Tree Classic Monster line!   :o  I can't wait to see if Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein, Godzilla, Curse of the Werewolf, and The Mummy have new merchandise this year!  Rumor had it that Universal ordered Dollar Tree to stop this line...  I hope that they decided to bring it back.

I know a dollar store employee, and she told me that the recall of the XoneX stuff was apparently over the Godzilla merchandise.  They were ordered to destroy it all, and re-shelf the rest of the line.

Granted a plush Curse Werewolf would make me howl. Kong was back in the toy section where they had piles of ratty zweibach encrusted little plushies. I didn't think to look for other monsters but perhaps I should have. I just assumed they didn't know what they had. To the juicebox set and their Mommies it would just be another monkey. I like your progressive thinking though, way to have faith!

Quotethe recall of the XoneX stuff was apparently over the Godzilla merchandise

That's funny - the Godzilla figure barely resembled Godzilla - no fins on the back, more like a generic Allosaurus, and the big poster cracks me up, it says (in the correct font) KING OF THE LIZARDS!
But destroy it all? That makes all my Dollar Tree Godzilla stuff highly collectable and expensive woo-hoo! Let's see, ebay or craigslist...?

Thing is, Pumpkin King's stuff is amazing art, and it's all original as well. I love his Creech renditions.

I also picked up some blanks to try my hand at it, but his stuff just looks so amazing.

See, there are a ton of stories floating around as to why we didn't get any Monsters last year.  And I'm not really sure which to believe, but the fact remains we had no monsters.  I really hope that they bring them back.

K mart recon report.. they had probably 70% of their Halloween stuff out, and other then a bubble blowing fogger, it looked pretty much like more of the same.

Only thing I saw remotely UM, was the Halloween m&ms with yellow as Frank, and red as the Dr.

Only new innovative thing at all was a motion activated  tombstone with hands that claw at it.

I'm starting to wonder if this is the year that Halloween official starts to really vanish.

VERY GOOD NEWS from the Dollar Tree!  The Creepy Classics have made a return this year.  The location nearest me only has the old finger puppets and figures out so far, and the rest of the Halloween is still packed.  I hope that with this new Kong, and the return of the old stuff, that Dollar Tree continues with this line and has some new offerings.  I was unable to locate the Kong, so I hope it means he is still packed away with some other classic monster goodies.  Let's cross our fingers!

Creepy classics were a line of monsters produced by XoneX (they also released the boxers/pajama pants, found at Target a few years ago) that used poster art-there were little figures, finger puppets, playing cards, goop and posters-Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, Godzilla, King Kong and Werewolf.  Here are a few images I found-

Cool, thanks! I've seen those figures on Ebay, usually for about $3-5 and always wondered why they were so cheap. Now I know! That Kong looks like he should have a football under his arm, though..

Has anybody heard or seen any of the Mexican Pop Top Horrors "reissues"?   I seem to remember, earlier this year someone in Mexico talking about how they appear every year for about 2 dollers each.  I'd love to get some of the reissues for a "project" I'm working on.

People talk a lot about those "easy to find" Mexican Pop-Top reissues, but I never see them.  Years ago they would "pop" up now and then, but not lately.  I would buy a few if I found them for cheap.

I went by my Dollar Tree today, and they had the finger puppets on a rack with a couple of figures, but nothing else.

Last year, they put a few out and I took them to the register.  When they were scanned, the register said they could not be sold and to retrieve them and put them in the back, so the checker wasn't able to sell them to me.  This year, they were scanned and went in the bag.  There was no inventory block like last year.  The sense I had of them was that these were not newly produced ones, but stuff that had been sitting in the back for 2 years.

Not at all! I'm totally used to it from the robot board I read. And they can get downright mean at times, too.. (which I like!)

Anyway, I picked up the Phantom today. They also had a witch and a guy who pulls his head off. The Phantom is cheesy, but cool. When you press the button, it starts moving it's mouth and talking and the eyes light up, then it pulls the mask off and you can see the skeleton jaw going up and down, eyes flashing and it starts laughing manically and taunting you. I've never seen the Robert Englund Phantom but this will remind you of him, in Freddy mode. If you're looking for pure classic Universal Phantom, this isn't it, but I think it's still well worth the $30.

Target has begun setting up their Halloween aisles. Not that I've ever really found anything cool at Target mind you. They tend to market their own seasonal products which usually ends up being fairly generic stuff. They did however surprise me a few years back with those giant sized Halloween display masks. Still, Target can be a good source for licensed confections; candy, fruit chews, etc.

Menards (Chicago area Hardware store and home center) has started selling their Halloween stuff. Among the stuff I got there:

They have reissued the light-up blow-molded plastic "Hobo Pumpkin JOL" which is a JOL in a tramp's outfit. It was originally made by Empire Plastic in 1969, and was all over the place when I was growing up. It was like seeing an old friend come out of the attic.

They are also selling all of the Lemax "Spook Town"/Pumpkin Hollow stuff, the pick of which is Frankenstein's laboratory, a great hybrid between a Universal set and a Hammer one. Price 39.99. Cheap!

I got them both for the combined total of under 50 bucks. I love vintage-style Halloween decor.

I can't wait to get that Wal Mart Phantom.

I visited Party City today and they are in the midst of putting out all their Halloween stuff. It's mostly the generic and expected stuff. Lots of Freddys and Jasons. Lots of creepy and not so creepy rubber masks. Lots of plastic weaponry. The only licensed Universal items I saw were three "kids" masks by Rubies; Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolf Man. Also in the costume section there was a licensed baby Frankenstein outfit. They still had more to put out and said they expected more shipments of stuff.

I got a tip from a UMA buddy that the life size Gemmy witch with cauldron was starting to show up again this season and after a frantic search shortly after Halloween ended last year, I decided to pay retail for her this year.  Got her at Lowes for $150.  I'll post pics as soon as I set her up this weekend.  BY FAR my favorite Gemmy item!

Went to Factory Card Outlet and found a very modest amount of Halloween stuff.  Only Universal thing was the Unique brand little bag of trick or treat bags with Frank's face on the cover (50 bags per pack).   These were first issued a couple years ago.  That's it so far.

Some of you may find this figure familiar. It was released a few years ago with a gray colored coat and pants and is 5' tall. I think I remember paying around $50.00 for the figure. Maybe it was a clearance price after Halloween? I can't remember. Anyways, for that price it was cool, and I still enjoy having the item among my collection.

Now it appears to have been re-released with a new colored coat and pants which is more "Frankenstein like". However, it still dances and shakes which is NOT very "Frankenstein like". And now it's $200.00!

He looks MUCH better now (but not $200 worth, IMHO.)

I dunno though.. I can "buy" a 5 foot tall witch, but a 5 foot tall frankenstein? He need to be 6 foot 5 or 7 foot at LEAST.

That's my biggest issue with all these big anamatronics.. they are just a tad too small to really attract me. an extra foot of plastic and cloth isn't that expensive, and would make these SO much more interesting to me.

My Halloween search for today included stops at Dollar Tree, Hallmark and Partly crapty, er Party City.  Didn't find any of the XoneX monsters at all.  Hoped to find that King Kong Packey found among perhaps some others.  Party City had a couple kids halloween masks of UM Dracula and the Wolf Man.  Horrible likeness but only $10 each.  Hallmark had several pretty cool cards that played music, among those I liked included Addams Family, Psycho and Nightmare Before Christmas.  Hopefully more stuff will show up.

I found these Rat Fink meets Mars Attacks meets squishy mem-brain heads. If they had these in the 60s - wow! For a make-a-buck Dollar Store toy I like the details in these - bandaged eyeball, bloodshot, stained teeth. I sense a true esprit de CORPSE here! No, not Universal Monsters but "the force is strong in this one". I like them. NOt huge on maggot brains etc. but somehow I'm compelled to love these mugs!

A the local Dollar Tree, I saw the Kong Packy showed, and some of that goop with the XoneX logos on it, and those little monster finger puppets with the bats.

I just finished putting out all the stuff at Kmart, but no Uni stuff. Besides costumes no licensed stuff at all.

The kids and I walked the Halloween aisles of Target this afternoon and found absolutely nothing. Not one licensed monster in the whole damn store! Not even a box of stale fruit chews. It's as if the Universal Monsters never even existed. Maybe this has all been a dream. The monsters and my kids don't even exist. Maybe this forum doesn't even exist, and I'm sitting upright in a hospital somewhere typing on my knees while drooling all over myself.

Wal*Mart has a CD collection called "Halloween" that comes in a Grim Reaper tin case which has a great CD inside (, as well as an ok CD, and a Night of the Living Dead DVD), including the theme from FRANKENSTEIN!  That's right, our very own 1931 opening theme has been beautifully arranged by 101 Strings for this CD collection.  I think they carried this last year, but there were different songs on it, if I recall correctly.  Anyway, I was thrilled to buy this and hear that great music in crisp stereophonic sound!  The cost was $9.99 for the 3 disc collection.  I also saw the aforementioned Phantom.  I will need to pick him up soon.

Three different Dollar Trees all have different things, some are good deals, some aren't.  I didn't see any XoneX merchandise at 2 of my local stores, but the third has it.  I will check the others later on.

Target only had their candy out.  Walgreens only had candy and large merch out.  Spirit is opening soon.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for some surprises!

Walmart has bupkis except candy so far, CVS is putting their stuff out today (cases on the floor), and there are a bunch of glow in the dark pez...the black cat has that classic 60's look to him, and there's a jack o lantern one with gitd eyes and mouth.

Slim pickins so far...

Went to the Clay County Fair today in Spencer, IA and wandered aimlessly in and out of buildings looking at displays and at all the vendor's booths. One man made wooden lawn ornaments and the two Halloween themed figures were of the Grim Reaper and a cousin of the Creature From the Black Lagoon--both figures looked to be over 5ft tall.
On the way home stopped at the Dollar Tree store in Spencer and picked up some Halloween goodies for Sgt. John--none of it like the stuff found by others but I did get some little ghostie/ghoulie ornaments of skeletons dressed in rags that look pretty nice, some stickers and some assorted plastic bats, skeletons, and assorted vermine. None of the slightly Universal Monster stuff like posters, little plastic figures, etc. from a few years ago.
Maybe later in the month I'll drive to Sioux Falls, SD and see what assortment of Halloween stuff that they have in the different shops in the Empire Mall.

Grabbed a couple tombstones at the Dollar Store the other night.  Nice and heavy and two out of the three that they had actually looked semi-old colonial.  They look decent behind some of my Sideshow 8 inch figures.  Also bought a fake crow and stuck him up high on the shelf as another garnish.

Hey those are intrieeeguing to me - and what's odd is I did see some of those busts today at Walgreens, only the Frank and a bald vampire guy. But certainly not a werewolf or Bride! Hopefully Walgreen's may get them also and some more painting is in store, Thanks for the pics at least we have something specific to look for now!

Add one more now - I just found Count Dracula at Walgreen's - and if there's one thing a collector likes it's a set of something. All of the sudden we have Frankenstein, Bride of, Dracula and Werewolf. I'd say that  pretty much constitutes an unlicensed set of Monster busts eh?
I can definitely see all four painted up nicely, displayed together on a shelf. And I like the old style tombstone font on this one:

So if some marketing dept somewhere is deciding to use real Monsters as a theme for these busts, might we not expect to see a Creature, Mummy or Phantom next?

I stopped by Rite Aid and Walgreens today. Rite Aid had virtually nothing in the way of Halloween items, but I did pick up two DVDs for $2.99 each: Killers from Space and The Monster Maker. Walgreens had their merchandise out, but nothing Universal-related. I did see some animated figures of Freddie Krueger and Jason Voorhees, and they had the polystone busts that have been mentioned above.

Wal-Mart has started to put out their Halloween wares and there are three of the animated figures, the Phantom, and fellow who removes his head and another green-skinned figure that does something with his face or head--was too early in the day for me to see just what the green-skinned one did. Assorted costumes were handing on racks and will soon to be on the floor once wild children run amok in this aisle.

The Frank that I bought from an eBay seller does not have any copyright info, street addresses or "S and S" references on the box.

The seller, who lives in Oregon where there are no Stop and Shop stores, says she bought it LAST year.  She would not tell me where.

Since mine was bought by someone who does not live in a state with the S&S stores and the boxes don't have the same information on them, it looks like they were sold by more than just the one chain.

You can see a picture of the back of my Frank's box in the first post in the SIENNA FRANKENSTEIN thread.

Grab this item whenever you see it.  I can't believe it will survive very long.  Universal and the Karloff's would be nuts to not challenge such a blatant copyright violation.  The likeness is obviously copied from the Frankenstein poster art that portays both electrodes as identical.

This may be this Halloween season's sleeper item - especially if it gets pulled from the shelves.

Happy hunting on these - I really like mine.

Wal-Mart has put out a few more Halloween things, skeletons that look like they're digging their way out of the ground, assorted skulls, more cheap little plastic gee gaws, some flocked rats. Today I pushed the button on the green-skinned man and his little trick is to turn his head around to expose his skull while yammering away--a small baby perched on it's Father's shoulders found this one to be facinating and Father activated all of these figures.
The most disturbing things I saw were rubber masks of politicians running for high office--they're frightening to me because they depict actual people.

My closest Target was about half way through putting out their stuff at lunch time.  Lots of generic stuff.

They are carrying the Nerds Candy Tubes mentioned elsewhere.

They are also carrying the Kellogs Halloween edition of their Fruit Snacks.  The bad news is I did not see any Universal-themed Fruit Snacks - Unless you count the Spongebob Squarepants as Frankenstein box.  Spongebob is appearing as himself on one box and made up and walking like Frankenstein on another.  Sheesh!

Target did have some small boys' pajamas with Frankensteins face on the shirt.  It would have been a great Karloff likeness if they hadn't included electrodes on his temples.  They still looked strangely good.

Hurray, I've finally found a Halloween item which looks a little bit like Frankie!!!!! Or, more accurately, like a Topstone Frankenstein mask from ages past:

I paid $2 each for these two severed/shrunken heads which are about 4" tall. Also, as you can see, I've already kitbashed one of them into a 12" doll by attaching it to a remaindered Hasbo action-figure which cost me another $2 at the same store. (Oh yeah, and I sacrificed a sock to make the vest because the action-figure was bare-chested and I didn't want Frankie to catch a cold.)

Now comes the bad news. I'm up here in The Frozen North (Canada) and I found this item in the toy department of a discount food store. When I asked if there were any more available, I was told there weren't... otherwise I would have bought a bunch of them.

The slightly better news is that the toy is copyrighted by Seasons USA Inc. (Sauquoit, NY 13456) so I'm sure it will turn up South of the Border too. Also, given the absurd differential in Canadian/American pricing, it'll probably sell for a dollar. I think it's worth at least that much.... ;D

These Monster Posts are very strange (and expensive) but are at least a nod to Universal classics:

I paid $2 each for these two severed/shrunken heads which are about 4? tall. Also, as you can see, I?ve already kitbashed one of them into a 12? doll by attaching it to a remaindered Hasbo action-figure which cost me another $2 at the same store. (Oh yeah, and I sacrificed a sock to make the vest because the action-figure was bare-chested and I didn?t want Frankie to catch a cold.)

Now comes the bad news. I?m up here in The Frozen North (Canada) and I found this item in the toy department of a discount food store. When I asked if there were any more available, I was told there weren?t? otherwise I would have bought a bunch of them.

The slightly better news is that the toy is copyrighted by Seasons USA Inc. (Sauquoit, NY 13456) so I?m sure it will turn up South of the Border too. Also, given the absurd differential in Canadian/American pricing, it?ll probably sell for a dollar. I think it?s worth at least that much?. ;D

I've picked up a few Halloween items this week.  I found these King Kongs at a dollar store.  Not a Dollar Tree, but a generic dollar store.

I did got to Dollar Tree, and they had a better selection of Tombstones than last year.  The 2 short ones are from Michaels.

They have more different ones than I bought, but these are the ones I liked.

And what's a graveyard around Halloween without monsters?

I was so lucky that the Dollar Tree had monsters for their Tombstones.

OK, those monsters didn't really come from Dollar Tree.

The Michaels had some cool busts.  I bought these two, but may go back for a couple others.  This one looks an awful lot like Vincent Price.   Speaking of price, I thought they were a little high at $20, but I guess it's not that bad.  This one is plaster.

This is the only one of the 5 different ones they had that wasn't plaster.  It was a little less ($17) and made of plastic.  It's ahard, dense plastic though, and a thick pour.

The tombstones were cool.  I grabbed the two that are in your back row to far left.  I believe the one with the skull and wings was the best done and almost nailed the colonial ones like you see back east.  I put mine behind my 8 inch sideshow figures.  Looks awesome with your set.

Check your local paper for coupons.  Michaels usually runs a pull out ad section in Sunday or Saturday papers with a 40 percent off coupon in it on non-sale items.  I picked up my Vincent Price bust for around $12.00.  ANd he is real cool.  Dry brush him with glow in the dark paint and set him near a black light!

I picked these cute lil' keychain guys at Dollar Tree today. They are filled with some sort of a sack of goo so that when you squeeze  them their eyeballs bulge out. Unfortunately all the Vampires had their goo sacks ruptured and none of them had really good eyes. I rummaged around to find the best one I could. There was also a Witch, but she didn't appeal to me.

Michaels also has some little blister packs of 4 of them that would be the correct scale (roughly) for 3 3/4" figures (like the Remco mini monsters).  They are with the Lexmark villages.

Went to Big Lots yesterday and found the Werewolf and Bride of Frankenstein counterparts to the Frank and Drac (Michael's) busts. Also a really cool life-size skull with a Raven on it with "Nevermore" insribed across the base. The raven is bent down kind of pecking at an eye. I forgot to buy it ( !!!!) but I'll be going back there to pick it up this weekend and I can take a pic. Also I plan on painting a set of the four busts and will post it when done. Keep hunting folks there are bound to be more items out there somewhere!

Not UNIVERSAL, (it has a Rubies sticker) but if this ain't Dracky I ain't Packy:

Ramsey37, when I first saw that I thought it was licensed, because it looks too much like a Universal piece not to be, but no one else seemed to mention it...

Speaking of Target, they have a couple of boys' costumes that seem to be close cousins to our Universal friends.  The werewolf seems to be inspired by the Wolf Man, and their Swamp Creature could be the brother of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.  They don't appear to have a Frank or a Mummy, but they do have a vampire.  It's not really a Lugosi inspired costume, but at least they have one.

I was really happy to see a Creature costume.  I haven't seen one in a looooooooooooong time.

Ok, I HAD to share this video link with you.. it's an alternate modern attempt at telling another take on the Frankenstein vs Wolfman story.

It's not pro, but consumer made, and is all cgi.. and FAR from the best cgi ever done...

BUT it actually has a very compelling storyline, and has a VERY old school Universal type feel to it.

So turn down the lights, and enjoy an entertaining consumer made UM like storyline...

While not a perfect creature, it IS very very close. I'm tempted to get one just for a stand up stuffed halloween display.

I also snagged a "tie a frankenstein to a tree today, and saw the creepy classics cards, and little tubs of slime as well. No king of the monsters, but they did have a bride of frankenstein, and dracula as well. (There was also an entire unopened case)

The wife settled on our halloween costumes this year.. Ghostbusters.. so today I spent $105 on two flight jumpsuits, 2 alice backpack frames, and 2 pistol belts. Hard part will be building proton packs with the proton guns, with working lights of some kind.

Anyone know a web resource for battery powered flashing led lights?

That IS interesting, SelfMadeMonster! I didn't see a Mummy either. Didn't think to look at the box. Were the other 4 displayed on the box too? Maybe one of them took the Mummy's place. Perhaps I will check a few more Publix and see if the elusive Mummy shows up!

Seems to me it was a generic box;  I'll try and stop by there on the way home from work this week and check.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but Hallmark has a new "Nightmare Before Christmas" Halloween ornament this season. I picked one up a few days ago.

I saw these at Target the other day and I think I'll be picking a few up. At $29.99 though, maybe just two of them!  ;)

The eyes light up red (hard to see on a cell phone camera pic). I like the medusa and devil ones best.

Target.com said that they weren't available in stores, but I saw them this past weekend.  I was hoping that this would mean that the Frankie blow-up would also be available, but it wasn't there.   :-\

This is it - from my return to Big Lots -

Yeah JUST saw those busts myself tonight. The gorgon looks to be th esame sclupt ats that michel's one, but she has lights, and is resin, rather then plaster.

I DO like the dracula and death as well.. I'm hoping they'll be around when they hit 50% off or so.

We also found some FUN stuff in their electronics section.. try the beware that lights and plays music.. I think it'll be a must have, this year.

SPEAKING of which.. I'm encouraging the troops to head over the the biog lots website and complain to them.

Seems some of the big lots are NOT on a "halloween promotion" list.. in other words, they get NOT halloween products at all, and went straight to christmas!

Can ya believe that? In your complaint email to them, be sure to mention that both target and walmart saw halloween sales growth between 20 and 30% last year.

Here's the link to their contact page:

http://www.biglots.com/Community/talk_back.aspx?cookieCheck=true

Here's what I just wrote in thier feedback section...

"I was just SHOCKED the other day when I asked my Big Lots where the halloween stuff was located, and they told me they weren't on the "halloween promotion" list!! It's one of the biggest yearly american holidays there is after christmas!!!

WTH??? The Big Lots a 30 -45 minute highway drive away all have halloween items, and both Walmart and Target last year reported halloween sales up 20-30% last year.. so what's the deal with Big Lots? I really HATE having to do a long drive with expensive gas prices now, and I'll be sure to spend my halloween dollars at all the other stores that support the holiday. I'll be damned if I'll spend a penny at big lots for halloween OR christmas items this year because of that bone headed decision."

They had these at the Dollar Tree many years ago.  I have the Dracula.  I like how we have a semi-Lugosi inspired Dracula figure, but then an obviously Christopher Lee inspired drawing of Dracula on the inside panel of the coffin.  Very cool little piece.

So, apparently Kroger and (hopefully) its other entities are carrying some monster plates and mugs.  I just read it over on the Classic Horror Film Board.  I haven't seen these for myself and the photo posted over there is really small, so I have no idea what they look like.  If anyone has a Kroger (or an affiliated grocer) near them, they might want to check this out.  I have one way on the other side of town, so I'll go and see if they have any sometime in the next few weeks.  If anyone finds these, be sure to tell us about them in more detail.  They seem to be generic monsters (not licensed), so don't get too excited.  I just thought I'd give you a heads-up.

My local Wal-Mart has put out their Halloween selection of movies. Sadly, it's mostly recent slasher films. I didn't see any classic horror films in the mix, although I did pick up a couple of Stephen King films in the $5.00 bin: Silver Bullet and The Dead Zone. They also had most of the Friday the 13th movies in the $5.00 bin as well.

I just noticed this morning that Wal-Mart has put up a big section of mostly classic sci-fi/fantasy flicks beside the Halloween movies. Here's a breakdown of everything:
Star Trek II, III, IV, and VI
20 Million Miles to Earth
The Alligator People
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (Daryl Hannah version)
Barbarella
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Critters
Cult Classics Double Feature (The Spider/War of the Colossal Beast)
Cyber Bandits
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Day the World Ended (recent remake)
Dragonslayer
Dune
Earth Vs the Flying Saucers (colorized version)
Enemy Mine
Fire In the Sky
First Men In the Moon
Heavy Metal
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1950's version)
It Came From Beneath the Sea (colorized version)
Jason and the Argonauts
Ghosts of Mars
Johnny Mnemonic (save your money and buy it at Big Lots for $3)
Krull
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
The Mysterious Island
Planet of the Apes (1968 version)
Spacehunter
Starman
Stephen King's It
Teenage Caveman (recent remake)
The 13th Floor
The Time Machine (recent remake)
Tobor the Great
The Toxic Avenger
Videodrome
The War of the Worlds (1950's version)
I already have quite a few of these, but definitely plan to pick up a few on payday. I've been meaning to get "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" for awhile now, and at $7.00, I don't have any excuse to put it off anymore! ;)

Has this come up yet?  Not licensed...  I got it at a store called Halloween USA.  They had a Mummy too, but it was kinda blah, more like the A&C Meet The Mummy style.  And...  it was only $5!   Sadly, they only had one...  I'll check back to see if they restock the rack.

NO snickering...guffaws only...first off tomorrow 'm heading to HOT TOPIC - I need some monster shirts!!! But speaking of your weird dollar store stuff (calling all Bobbys) this dollar store owner wouldn't know Frankenstein from Dumbo, and he probably has some cousin with a warehouse full of cheap crap and says "Send me the Halloween stuff now" ... I chatted him up and he disclosed he's holding out - "much more Halloween stuff in the back, come back in a few days" you know I will if I can find more of this:

They actually have had those scene setters for a few years now.  They are definitely based off of the 1999 Universal Monsters designs.  In addition to that Frankenstein, they have a vampire that looks very much like the 1999 Dracula design, except they messed him up by putting him in a red and purple cape.   :-\

I'm digging that Frankenstein... gonna have to see if I can score one.. he's up there with tie a Frankenstein to a tree, but with better artwork!

My Hot Topic here has the belt buckles, but no t-shirts yet.. I'm resisting the urge to do a 30 minute highway trip just for the belt buckle.

I looked at the Creature belt buckle yesterday.  It's nice and big and heavy...  but I couldn't get into the idea of dropping $75 on belt buckles.

Also...  it seemed a bit distorted.  Might have just been the medium made it look that way.
Title: Re: Halloween Watch List
Post by: Gareee on September 28, 2008, 09:20:05 AM
Since creech belt buckles were selling on ebay for $40 when i looked, $20 sounds damned reasonable to me! ;)

I don't need all of them, just the creech one. i MIGHT be tempted by the frankenstein one, when I see it.

And it's not like there's a ton of new licensed suff even out this year. I've bought almost nothing at all this year, other then parts n such for making ghostbusters costumes.

Aaaah Cesar 1986 of course that was on the tip of my tongue, which is kind of like waiting with bated breath - baited with minnows. Thanks for the info and yep the second hand stores always put out some second hand Halloween stuff. That hallowindow thing looks pretty cool.. too bad I have a 50" plasma vs a projection tv.

Picked up the creature belt buckle, and LOVE it! WELL worth the money! Frank looked very good, but wolfman looked off to me, though it had a lot of detail.

And best reason to buy it? When I need to head to the little boy's room, I told the wife I needed to unleash the creature.. LOL!

Progress is going well on the ghostbuster stuff.. I'm pretty sure I have most of what we need now for the proton packs and wands.. the GB costumes now are at about $220 or so, and that's for two of them.

Okay guys, I went to the local Kroger retailer today and picked up the "Horror Movie Poster" plates, mugs, and bowl I told you all about earlier.  For 1.99 each, they were extremely awesome and I recommend that anyone who lives near a Kroger/Ralphs/King Soopers/Smith's go and pick up a set.  They didn't have hardly any at the store in my city, and I managed to pick up the last of each Dracula, Swamp Creature, and Mummy mug and plate.  They aren't officially licensed products, but they have the feel of a good old fashioned Monster movie.  I will post pictures soon.  But, since I cleaned out the supply at my store, I recommend everybody try and hunt these down before they're gone.  I was really impressed with them for the price.

I recommend that anyone who lives near a Kroger/Ralphs/King Soopers/Smith's go and pick up a set.

Those are really great looking.  Is there a manufacturer name on them?  We don't have any of those stores here in NJ (at least that I've ever seen).

The bottom says:  "Mulberry Home Collection / Dishwasher Safe / Copy Righted by Genmert".  The UPC label calls the line:  "Vintage Scary Movie Posters".  I hope this helps.  Kroger runs under a lot of different names in different parts of the country, so you might have one and not even know it.

I would have picked up some extra ones had there been some, but either they are really popular or the stores don't get large shipments.  I'm thinking it's a mix of both.   ;)

Great find Packy!  That Cesar Frank is one of my all time favorites.

Cesar Franck wrote  one of my all time favorite pieces of music, Symphony in D Minor. It was used as the theme song for my all time favorite radio show, "Quiet, Please".

Just jumping in here...

Good question.  Perhaps they think they can get away with it considering the title on the "poster" is:  "My Date with Swamp Thing".

Well, I finally found something that I 'had to have'. It's called a 'charger' from Target. It is this skull and crossbones made of tiny strung glass beads (like those beaded Indian belts you had as a kid), made in India. It is rather large and heavy. I am picturing a room full of slave children making these, as they sell for only $12.99 and look like they would take a week to make. All to make my Halloween happy. Thanks, kids.  If this thing was vintage (as it looks), I couldn't afford it. I can think of alot of uses for one of these, but I think it will go in the car, which has a 'skull' thing goin' on. It would be cool on the back of a jacket, too.

Many cool things popping up as October begins! I love those Kroger monster items aLOT but alas nothing Kroger related in this area. MOnster Bob that's a great skull thing and I even have an "indian belt" now I still wear. They're all over the place up north. Heck where Richard works in Duluth probably has them. But I digress - why is it called a "charger"? I also love and collect skulls and skellies but there's such a glut of that stuff right now that you have to discern. Yes I said discern. I wouldn't mind seeing pics of your car with a "skull thing goin on" - ?
I did score another Frank mask from a thrift store last night along with a MIB Funco Frankenberry and a nice old Ben Cooper Skeleton costume that happens to have two masks! I'll get a pic up soon and ask if anyone knows about the mask.

I think a charger is a dodad your Mom puts on a table to protect the table from heat (like a protector for a hot plate) . The glass beads would sheild the table from heat.

What's cool about this piece it is looks like a decoration off a 50-year-old jacket or something like that. Intricate and snazzy.

Here are my latest Halloween thrift store purchases - unknown mask, Frankenberry wobbler, Ben Cooper Skelly. Total for all three 16.00. Again, if you mask experts know anything particular about this mask please enlighten me. Stamped "made in Sri Lanka" that's all I know.  It's not that cool but it's big and Frankensteiny. Thanks!

This has been going around the internet.  Supposedly from St Mary's School, it may very well be someone's goofy thing they made up, but nevertheless...

If Your Child is a Gothic, Reform Through the Lord!

Listed below are some warning signs to indicate if your child may have gone astray from the Lord. Gothic (or goth) is a very obscure and often dangerous culture that young teenagers are prone to participating in.

The gothic culture leads young, susceptible minds into an imagined world of evil, darkness, and violence. Please seek immediate attention through counselling, prayer, and parental guidance to rid your child of Satan's temptations if five or more of the following are applicable to your child:

-Frequently wears black clothing.
-Wears band and/or rock t-shirts.
-Wears excessive black eye makeup, lipstick or nailpolish.
-Wears any odd, silver jewelry or symbols. Some of these include: reversed crosses, pentagrams, pentacles, ankhs or various other Satanic worshipping symbols.
-Shows an interest in piercings or tattoos.
-Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of music. (Marilyn Manson claims to be the anti-Christ, and publicly speaks against the Lord. Please discard any such albums IMMEDIATELY.)
-Associates with other people that dress, act or speak eccentrically.
-Shows a declining interest in wholesome activities, such as: the Bible, prayer, church or sports.
-Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan.
-Takes drugs.
-Drinks alcohol.
-Is suicidal and/or depressed.
-Cuts, burns or partakes in any other method of self-mutilation. (This is a Satanic ritual that uses pain to detract from the light of God and His love. Please seek immediate attention for this at your local mental health center.)
-Complains of boredom.
-Sleeps too excessively or too little.
-Is excessively awake during the night.
-Dislikes sunlight or any other form of light. (This pertains to vampires promoting the idea that His light is of no use.)
-Demands an unusual amount of privacy.
-Spends large amounts of time alone.
-Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your child may speak to evil sprits through
meditation.)
-Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.
-Disregards authority figures; teachers, priests, nuns and elders are but a few examples of this.
-Misbehaves at school.
-Misbehaves at home.
-Eats goth-related foods. Count Dracula cereal is an example of this.
-Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very
dangerous and should be stopped immediately.)
-Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your
child may watch.)
-Plays videos games that contains violence or are of a role-playing nature.
-Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer.
-Makes Satanic symbols and/or violently shakes head to music.
-Dances to music in a provocative or sexual manner.
-Expresses an interest in sex.
-Masturbates
-Is homosexual and/or bisexual.
-Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism, Scientology, Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism.
-Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "woe is me", "I'm a goth".
-Claims to be a goth.

If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your local mental health center.

A checklist for eternal salvation? LOL! It isn't any wonder how some churches have driven folks so far away from the Truth. The Truth is that the sin debt has already been paid. We're all free to eat Count Chocula cereal without having to burn in hell because of it!  Your teeth may rot and fall out of your head, but your salvation is secure and firmly in place. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I know I'm treading on thin ice here in sharing this, but I will anyways because I feel it's important enough. And then we should get back on topic with this thread.

I know there are some misguided "religious" folks out there who believe a fascination with monsters of any kind, classic or modern, is dangerous and is detrimental to one's faith (or salvation). In staying consistent with this thread's topic, these same folks would even say Halloween is devil's play. In fact, these folks would even say this very forum is corrupt and damaging to one's salvation! Now they're calling out Count Chocula cereal too! ENOUGH! I'm here to tell you that is all hogwash! 100% hogwash!

Enter soap box platform. WARNING! Religious tones to follow.

I am a life long monster fan. I am a Marilyn Manson listener. I eat Count Chocula cereal on occasion. I love sex. I love rock and roll. I love finely crafted ales and lagers. I have friends who are homosexuals. I have friends who are atheists. I like black clothing. I have a temper. I am imperfect. And I am saved. I am Terry.

It's about something much bigger than any of these character traits or flaws including Count Chocula cereal. If it wasn't, He wouldn't be called GOD.

Sorry to be breaking my own forum rules regarding religious discussions. I couldn't help myself. Even though I'm the General, I invite the supporting mods here to remove this post if they deem it necessary to do so. I will fully understand. Like I said .. I'm imperfect.

I could talk about this for hours. I was raised strict Catholic and was also a 60s Monster kid at the same time. I was an Altar boy back when we had to learn it in Latin. To this day I remember being fascinated by premises such as the drinking of Blood (Consecration), rising from the dead, carrying around bones of dead Saints (All Saint's day parade) , Angels of death smiting, devils and eternal torment etc. - all quite nutritious food for thought to a young lad that served Mass by day and made Monster models and played with rubber spiders by night. Needless to say I highly doubt I damned myself in any way but instead grew with a balanced perspective allowing me to make healthy Spiritual choices.
THE PIGLET IS MINE!!! Wait did I just type that?.....

I think the majority of Goth kid's devotion to their "belief'' mainly involves spending as much of their parents money as possible on clothes from Hot Topic. When i went there to pick up the Uni monster buckles, it looked like the wardrobe department for Silent Hill .

Seriously, even with teens, hasn't the Goth movement always been more about fashion, music and attitude than any kind of spiritual belief?  I think that is the case with the majority of Goths.

Yeah. It was the heavy metal fans destined for eternal damnation in the 80's, now it's the Goths turn for a roasting. I think most teen movements are about the music and attitude over any for of spiritual or religious belief. Saying that if they do eat goth-related foods such Count Dracula cereal , then they are of course in league with Satan  :o

It is a Hallmark card, Licensed through Uni Studios/Lugosi.  I did not see any other monsters.

Perhaps this will lead to Hallmark making Uni Monster Likeness ornaments soon!

Open card reads 'May your night be Spectacula'! *with original film sound chip of

I know it's not as much fun as finding it on the grocery store shelf, but if you can't wait to get your BooBerry, here is a quick and easy way to do it:

http://www.amazon.com/Booberry-Cereal-9-6-oz-3ct/dp/B001684RVS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1223541815&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Booberry-Cereal-9-6-oz-3ct/dp/B001684RVS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1223541815&sr=8-1)

It kind of feels like cheatin', though, don't it?

I picked this card up tonight at Target.

Sorry it didn't scan very well.

The inside has a bunch of bats and says - Hey that would make this a "charge card"! Ha, Ha, Ha!

A few cheap masks, I like the cheesy 70s look of them. It's still pretty thin over here in the UK.  :(

It has been a lackluster Halloween in my stores- nothing much turned me on. With the tightening economy, It's been a whole lot tighter than in Halloweens past.

I always check out the LeMax stuff at Halloween. Most of their stuff is a bit too...hmm...corny or silly or something for me, but I always find a couple of gems that I have to own! I do like the line alot.

Well, this year it's the dancing skeletons...

The cowboy skeletons are a must, too, (when they mark them down!)

Hi Chrisnurse - those are cool masks, are they new? Because I have some older masks similar at least to the Witch and the Skelly but not exactly.  Where'd you pick those up? I love that plastic stuff!

Hey Paul,

I just got back from Scotland and picked up a set of those 60s-70s style masks myself. They're new and sold at Woolworth for 30p (about 60 cents) each. In addition to the ones pictured is a cool King Kong and Vampira.

Hey Packy,
They're new, from a horrid supermarket giant called Tesco over here, I have to check out Woolworth's tomorrow. Everything else in the UK shops is pretty bad this year. But the masks do have a nice 'cheap' 70s look!

Bob, those Skellies are great, pure Danse Macabre!

But that has got to be old.  Look at the packaging and the logo.  It's the design from the late 90s.  Does it have a date on it?  Is this something they produced a long time ago and are just now releasing, or have they just not updated their stock images for Universal?

There's no date anywhere on the packaging. Rubie's may have found it cheaper to use the 90's style than to come up with something new. If this were an older item, I'm sure someone here would've noticed it before this Halloween. This is the first year I've ever come across one.

I picked up this IV bag of blood at Walgreens the other day. As you can see, it has writing on one side of the bag but on the other it's blank which gave me some room to pull some pranks. I actually had a few of my friends believing that when I went to get my flu shot, I saw bags of blood and took a few. I then added that " I heard raw blood is worth quite a bit so I plan to sell it at a blood bank". You should have seen the look on their faces as they took a few steps back.  ;D  It was the best $1.99 that I ever spent. Lots of laughs.

I know... which is what makes me think that they've been holding out on us.  Gernerally companies like Universal want consistency in their product releases (no matter how few there are) and would demand that the companies that they grant licenses to keep with the current "theme" and logos.  I wonder what else Rubies is hiding.

I went to Dollar Tree today and they were pretty wiped out of Halloween stuff and were putting out Xmas stuff where that had been.  I had a couple other things to get and when I got up to the register there was a bowl next to it full of these.  They were in small bags with a sticker sealing them which was marked Greenbriar, which is Dollar Tree's merchandise design/manufacturing/distribution company so they are a Dollar Tree product.

The head shape on that makes it look like just like a giant Frankenstein Kubrick. I'll have to try and track one of these down...

I stopped in Walmart at lunch to pick up a few things and found these cool vintage-styled rubber masks for $1 each:

I DID pick up the IV bags at walgreens.. and got the last two they had. (The wife HAD to have one for work.. LOL!)

We also picked up those busts with led eyes at Target, and 2 of the larger gargoyles (10% off this week) though it looked like none had sold at all yet.. probably priced too high. Good thing Target honors the price protection within 30 days.. if they go on deep discount next week, we'll just get refunds back for the difference.

And I assembled our basic proton packs yesterday.. lights are all working perfectly, so today will be adding the smaller detials to them, and starting in on the guns. I'm racing the halloween clock...

I've been mostly disappointed with the fare this year, but as I swung by Target this evening for the last minute necessities, I came across these little gems (sorry, didn't have time to take pics of mine):

http://www.i-mockery.com/blabber/2008/09/21/when-monsters-become-helpless-slingshots-bunjie-battle-monsters/

My apologies if these have been pointed out already. I had to have The Eye right away, hoping to catch the rest on sale later. The zombie is perfect with a head flap that pulls back to reveal the brain. Funky and fun, they fly pretty well and scream in the process. Just what I needed to jump start the Halloween spirit. Unfortunately, their website www.senario.com didn't have any reference to them.
