If you could name one song from any style, or era, what song or instamental that could bring you to tears whenever you hear it ??? For me there is one song that tugs the hear every time i hear it, its a instramental played with a bugel, to honor those who have died in the military. TAPS !!!!
Ok - here it is...
"Vincent" by Don McLean. I also get a little choked up by Julio Iglesias' version of the same song.
One that most folks here have never heard. It's by a band called Adam Again, and the song is "You Can Fall in Love". I can't tell you how many times this song has reduced me to a blubbering mess. Not that that's a bad thing. I feel much better after a good cry. ::)
Anything by Barbara Streisand not only reduces me to tears but also gives me the bird flu and mad cow disease.....and a stroke.

Well spoken, my friend. My distaste for Ms Streisand's music is well known where I work. During Christmas her inane version of Jingle Bells is enough to make me run out of the store screaming. Once a good friend of mine found an 8 track tape copy of one of her Christmas albums and left it on my desk! The following Christmas the same jokester left a framed 11"x14" photo of her on my desk!! ::)

That is
uncanny that you said that!! I was going to say more about Jingle Bells but I thought I had said enough. My mother had that on one of her Christmas compliations as a kid and I swear on everything I think it gave me panic attacks. While I'm a
huge Christmas fan, I'm fairly sure that song could suck the life out of every elf in the North Pole.
I swear on my grandmother's nativity scene........that song is 100% pure concentrated evil. It's like the "Anti-Christmas".
My favorite movie of all time is the movie musical Scrooge, w/Albert Finney. Many of the songs stir my soul & reduce me to tears.
Marty Balin - Hearts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIF74lH4KPM#)
Joey Ramone's version of "What a Wonderful World" makes me cry, even when I just think about it. It is so beautiful and goes right to my heart. And it came out at such a sad time.
Also- Mendelssohn 5- Reformation makes me weep openly. I can no longer listen to it while I'm driving because it overwhelms me. Ahhhh soooooo wonderful :)
"Peace" - Metropole Orchestra - Tribute to Joe Zawinul :'(
& not so much the song, but the intro gets me every time...

It's like you looked into my soul before you posted. Streisand is pure, unadulterated evil.

I bought the cd/dvd combo of this album. Took it to a friend's house who had never seen the video. He had tears in his eyes and asked me to replay it right away. Powerful, powerful rendition.

Wow this is the same song I was gonna pick. I remember seeing this on TV when it came out and it would always bring a tear to my eye and get me all choked up. Really this whole album is pretty sad.
There is one more.
There have been several versions of this song.
However, I think these four Norwegians really nailed it.

I've reviewed this thread with great interest but my reply will be the weirdest of all: there's a Stevie Wonder song
that brings me to tears of sadness every time it plays. Most ironically, the song is titled "Overjoyed". Go figure ...
Just about everything on the radio, these days, brings me to tears (for all the wrong reasons).
Not one song brings me tears. Not even, Tears for Fears😉🎃
"Mother Machree" (Me and all the other lads down at The Drunken Dick.)

This one seemed to do the trick for me when I was a kid:

This one by the Scorpions dealing with the fall of the Berlin Wall choked me up because of the stark reminder of how lucky I'd been to have been born in Canada in the 1950's in stark contrast to the experience of so many others including my own parents:

Pink Floyd the entire "Dark Side Of The Moon" always gets me. However, it's one of the few entire albums that I can listen to over and over again without getting tired of it. The song lyrics really emphasize the futility of a life lived stuck in a dystopian working class society. The song "Us And Them" is especially potent for me : "...forward he cried from the rear, and the front rank died. And the generals sat, and the lines on the map moved from side to side"

Sorry to hear that Haunted hearse. Keep your spirits up.
I'm not sure if any music literally makes me cry, but some songs come close. I really enjoy listening to melancholic compositions. Classic examples include Bach BWV 988 (Goldberg variation), Chopin Nocturne in C-Sharp minor, Vivaldi Sposa son disprezzata, and of course Beethoven's midnight sonata.
In terms of modern music "Asleep" by the Smiths is one of the most depressing songs I can think of. I love it (and the band), just saying it's not very cheerful.
Another beautifully sad composition from a modern group is "13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed" by Mt. Zion. The track is from their concept record "He Has Left Us Alone." The concept album is dedicated to one of the members' dogs who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge. Contemplating the loss of our fury friends definitively chokes me up.
Unchained Melody... reminds me of my late wife.
To Sir, With Love - Lulu
Kiss Me Goodbye - Petula Clark
Have A Good Time - Sue Thompson
That Sunday, That Summer- Nat King Cole
