Only in Los Angeles could we have so much fun when it comes to unique screening opportunities.
Last Thursday The Dark Shadows organization offered this double feature.

House of Dark Shadows, as I remembered starts slow but then gets moving. Once Barnabas shows up it really takes off. Plenty of blood, lots of bad acting some good acting and the cool DICK SMITH Old Vampire make up.
Then they showed the new film, which, to me, was not unlike most other Tim Burton films. Style over Substance time 50. But , please go see it and support it as it's always good for this genre to make some money.

Anyway, this isn't a review article. it's a look what else I ended up with post.
The actors from the series (and movie) were there and signed for free. I thought that was classy.

Then they had an auction. In my capacity as a minor celebrity I am often called on to host live auctions and always appreciate the difficulty in raising money from people who want a bargain.
I did my best to start and push many bids on things I didn't want or need and eventually I ended up winning some fan art. When I went up to pay the auctioneer offered the crowd a Non Dark Shadows piece of ephemera direct from the Dan Curtis vaults.
No one bid! I couldn't really see it but offered my usual bid to get the thing going and nobody bid against me. SO I won but didn't really know what I won.
Imagine my surprise when they handed it to me. It was the comp up art work for Jack Palance in Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.

Interesting, I thought but what would i do with it.
Then they handed me the other part.
The original painting of the cover!

I also picked up and original 16 mm print of THE NIGHT STRANGLER form the Dan Curtis collection.
A very exciting night.
I saw OPERA GHOST form afar. Rob, did you end up with anything?
Sounds like a fun night and an awesome score!
Wow, You had a great night. Love the Jack Palance painting, Do you know who did the artwork?
Lee
Wow! To see any of our favorite horror movies on the big screen is a wonderful treat, but to see House of Dark Shadows again on that big ol' screen sounds like a dream come true. :) I remember seeing it at the drive in and filtering the scary parts through my fingers, and I can still recall the bloody scenes!
Your pictures are also a treat! What a great way to spend a weekend!
Man, something from the Curtis archives is particularly cool! Congrats Dan!
