Just saw the commercial for this. Looks like it might be worth a trip to the theatre....
The Raven Trailer Official 2011 [HD] - John Cusack, Luke Evans, Alice Eve (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9mor4SsfJU#ws)
I'm in. 8)
Saw the previews and it looked great!!
Looks good (and original!). Cusack is a darn fine actor, too!
Not a big Cusack fan, but maybe the story will make up for it. He just looks too healthy and sober for Poe. This might have been a great role for RDJ about 7 years ago.
I was thinking the same thing, lol! Poe was haggard before his time!

Haggard, haunted, and downright sickly.
Looks like the wife is going to take me to see this for my B-day since it comes out the day before. I just don't see Edgar Allan Poe in Cusack nor do I see Poe as some kind of Sherlock Holmes/007 private investigator.
It's a piece of fiction based on a historic person and I'm completely fine with that. Poe did look sickly and was never involved in investigating a series of murders based on his stories. Then again, Abraham Lincoln never hunted vampires...publicly. Previous "adaptations" of Poe's stories by the likes of Roger Corman have been far from the original stories (to say the least) and some of them were great fun movies. I love Cusack in so many of his movies. He just comes across as...natural.
This film is being directed by James McTeigue. I thought he did a fine job with V FOR VENDETTA which I loved (despite Alan Moore's lamentations). I look forward to seeing this film.
By the way, fans of Cusack, if you haven't seen IDENTITY, watch it. It's one of those blow your mind movies.

But Lincoln still looks more natural hunting and killing supernatural critters than Edgar Allan Poe looks as a detective/action star; At least the guy playing Lincoln looks like Lincoln, Cusack could have used some make up and it really would have completed the illusion!
Poe was indirectly involved in a murder mystery.
On July 28, 1841, Mary Rogers a young woman working in a New York City cigar store was found floating in the Hudson river. The case was sensationalized in the New York papers. And the murder was never satisfactorily solved.
Poe based his detective story, The Mystery of Marie Roget (1842) on the murder.
Not sure Poe ever wore a goatee like Cusack does . . .

Even though he flunked out, as a former West Pointer, Poe wore a moustache because it was the trend amongst military officers of the period.
I seen this trailer too and I am wanting to see this. Always liked John Cusack and Poe of course!

Cusack shares Poe's high forehead, and that's about it. Cusack is too tall for Poe, and too darn healthy-looking. He should've borrowed some clown-white and dark eyeshadow from Johnny Depp! Also, yes, the goatee is inaccurate. Poe wore a moustache because, even though he was tossed out of West Point for drunkeness, he still went there and moustaches were big in the military back then. That's why pacifists like the Amish and Quakers grow beards, but not moustaches.
I like Cusack and I'm ready to see this.
I'm glad they are making horror movies with a gothic flair these days.
yes. i have to see it. im a bit of a Poe fan .
looks promising might have to stop by the theater to take a look at this
I just know if I go see this, I'll hear Bela Lugosi echoing in my head, "Poe, you are avenched!"

+1
Definitely seeing it.
At least Poe doesn't seem to sparkle.
I put this in the same vein as Sleepy Hollow...sort of an alternate take on the main character.
I am really looking forward to this movie. Definitely going to check it out this weekend.
I'm torn...it could be fun. I just hope it's not too much like RDJ's Sherlock Holmes films in flavor.

I hope not. Poe was no action hero, that's for certain. Even with his West Point training, he was usually either too high/drunk/hungover for much more physical activity than putting pen to paper.

Yeah I've taken a few college courses on Poe and that's why this movie baffles me. Poe is the last guy that should be the lead in a movie like this. If anything he might be the villain....nah scratch that. He's not evil, I think he was probably just a douche lol. He had a few years where he was a decent guy when he was married to his teenage cousin, but then he died and Poe fell from grace more or less.
At the very least, Poe shouldn't be sober at all in this film. And any "good" he''d do would probably just be for booze money lol.
Oh, and Gary Oldman should have played Poe.
Gary would have been a great Poe!!!
Certainly a better Poe than he was Dracula. But, not "action hero Poe."
I didn't like "action hero" Sherlock Holmes. What's wrong with a hero who actually uses his intelligence?

Because then things don't 'splode!

There should never be an action hero Poe so that solves that ;)
Any truth to the rumor that Raven will be singing a rap song over the films closing credits? :P

Nevermore!
I rapped 'The Raven" poem one time. And I'm not a rapper.
I saw the film friday night and really enjoyed myself. Cusack as Poe is awesome, the story and characters are very thrilling in this chilling movie. A bit gorey too but that I didn't mind at all, Poe is a bit gorey!!

I've always thought Gorey (http://www.edwardgoreyhouse.org) was a bit Poe, myself.
I'm planning on seeing it today. Gore works for me. >:D
I saw it on Friday. I enjoyed it. It's got its flaws, but what movie doesn't? There was some CGI blood that didn't look great, but fears that it's another Sherlock Holmes-like action movie should be put to rest. As a mystery whodunit sort of movie, I'm not sure how well it functions, as the killer's identity kind of comes out of nowhere. Still, classic horror fans should find things to like about it. I was almost reminded of Weird Menace pulps a couple of times, but that may just be me.
All in all? Not the best movie ever, but far from the worst. Check it out and see for yourselves. Personally, I liked it. ;D

Thought it was pretty good. Wish hollywood would do more murder/mystery stuff....
I'll prolly see it tomorrow. . curiousity is killing me . :/
i was gonna see it but heard it was terrible now i'm not so sure i trust that persons judgement.
I saw it, and thought it was good.
I really enjoyed this! Saw it this weekend and it made a great contrast to the epic scale of the AVENGERS film. Nice, toned-down storytelling in a creepy setting.
Big Poe fan here. Saw the title on a theater reader board and wondered what it was. Have to see it.
Just watched The Raven on NetFlix. I thought it had a pretty cool story with some intense death scenes. Huge Poe fan and really liked the movie!
I loved this movie! I thought it was really good. I recommend it for sure!
I loved the movie as well, but my daughter was bugged by the contempoary song they stuck on in the end. I wasn't. If they are going to put a crappy song on any movie, after the conclusion of the movie is the perfect place for it.
