Title: Three Stooges film
Post by: Illoman on April 14, 2012, 02:24:00 PM
Just got back from seeing this, and I was impressed!! They nailed the characters. The script was great with lots of puns and in-jokes. They did a few homages to the original shorts as well. It had a decent storyline that fit the Stooges quite well.

Mike, I saw the trailer with the bodacious nun and such. How risque is it?

The scene where she comes up out of the pool has been excised from the final cut. They show her sitting in the lifeguard's chair but that's about it. Besides Sofia Vergara's ample bosom there isn't any risque stuff. The showing I went to had a wide audience from kids to the elderly.

I noticed they stopped showing that scene in the TV spots right after they started advertising it as being rated PG.

Just got back from seeing it. Me of all people who don't like remakes thought this was great. It was a tribute to the 3 Stooges. The producers did thier homework on this one. It was really funny and there were a couple of times I had to remind myself they were not the real Larry, Moe and Curly. I wish I could say  the same about Dark Shadows.

Steve, I have fond memories of watching Dark Shadows as a kid when it originally aired. I, too was dismayed at the previews of the Depp film. I think if I approached it as a Mad magazine style parody I may enjoy it. I'm still on the fence about it....

I thought it was great as well. All 3 of them were dead-on, their voices, mannerisms, everything. Good story also. My early favorite for best picture Oscar..............well, maybe I'm stretching that a little bit. Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk!

I have good memories as well. I couldn't watch it all the time because I lived in New Mexico at the time and because of the time zone it came on at 2 in the afternoon and I went to school from 7:30am to 4:30 pm. We had long days so i only saw it in the summer and when I had school vacation or was home sick. I am so torn on Dark Shadows. I want to like it but I am not looking for a comedy. I was hoping for character update with Tim Burtons lavish sets like his vision of Gotham City in Batman Returns. I strongly suspect I will be disappointed. It won't deliver like the 3 Stooges did.

Maybe next time the Farrelly's could do a new Lugosi/Karloff team up movie?!

Or maybe a new Poe/Vincent Price movie?

How about taking a stab at a new Abbott and Costello feature!!

There are so many great acts/actors out there that they could hire copycats of and make new films with them, hell if all else fails they could always just film a block of wood and call it a new Keanu Reeves movie!

I'd be up for that if they got a great cast, good script, and they approvals of the families.

Count me as one who thought it was wonderful! The three leads were fantastic, but I thought Chris Diamantopoulos' Moe was absolutely extraordinary! "You're scarin' away all the customers!"

I laughed until I cried!

gosh. Im shocked to read all the great reviews here about this movie..
I thought , just as I alwaysss automatically think/assume about all the other remakes,, that it will most certainly be NOT good,
and theyd destroy something that is already perfect, pure, doesnt need remade. doesnt need modernized.. etc.
well,
Maybe I'll give this movie a whirl. .thnx guys ! :)

Jordan and I are waiting for it to hit the Lake Worth Drive-In. We'll bring in our own supreme pizza, sodas, and other assorted junk food. Nothing like the charm of a good old fashioned drive-in movie!! Who's coming with us?? We'll watch it in a limo and go party after!!

Hi, iam a long time fan of the stooges. I have about 100 episodes still on vhs tape that i havent transferred to dvd yet. Maybe i will make that a nice weekend prodject soon. I dont think iam going to see the new movie. I seen some of the previews, and iam just not into bringing the stooges legacy to todays life style. Their antics were from a different time, and they wouldnt fit in with todays world.
I had the opertunity to go to a stooges convention here i Phila, back in 1991. I met a co-star from a popular episode called- Disorder in the Court. The night club dancer, Gail Tempest was played by Ms. Suzanne Kaaren. I have an autographed photo of her. She passed away in 2004. Curly's daughter Janie Hankey was there and i have her autograph of a photo of her father Curly. Moe's son Paul was there as well, he did a screening of some classic episodes and did a meet & greet as well. And me & my friend had the once in a life time opertunity to have breakfast with an elderly husband & wife at the hotel. We didnt know it at the time, but we were having breakfast with Mr. & Mrs. Budnick. Turns out we were having breakfast with Larry's  sister layla. Her husband, Nate was a stage hand with lighting during the stooges shorts.
I HOPE, my personal moments to the Stooges made your times as a stooges fan, a good one.

You would be surprised at how well their antics work in a modern world.

Cool Wolfie!! Have to disagree though about the Stooges antics not translating into the modern world. Dudes getting poked in the eye and slapped across the face?? Works for me in ANY era.  ;D ;D

Happened across this photoshopped pic of what Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn may have looked like in the Stooges debacle....uh I mean movie!  They did a decent job of editing but not sure why they didn't give Benicio Moe's bowl cut?!

I notice Monster Bob never did give his thoughts on the film?

Hey, I thought you made some pretty valid points in that thread. A few folks got riled because you think the original Japanese cut is far superior to the American cut. So what? That's the same opinion of 90% of the kaiju experts out there! But, as a few folks pointed out, that's the version they grew up with, and first fell in love with Godzilla. So, they get defensive. But, I think you handled their criticism pretty damn well, and in no way did you get your ass handed to you.

Now, I know you love the original Three Stooges. So, I'd really like to hear a hardcore Stooge-a-phile's opinion before seeing it.

But then, I also respect the convictions of someone who has Popeye the Sailor Man as a role model.

I was amazed, and I am a stoogamaniac from way back. These guys were almost as good as the originals. Nobody can replace the originals, but these fellows were absolutely great and the Guy who played Moe, several times through the movie had me thinking I saw a ghost.. I love how they paid honest tribute to the masters.

I PM'ed Bob almost precisely the same sentiments. He's knowledgeable, witty, and likes monkeys. We can't afford for a guy like that to self censor.

I just saw it this morning with a friend.  Before, I was hesitant about bringing them into today's world and trying to recreate such a great comedic trio, but I decided to just go in with an open mind.  It was great and really funny!  It's a near classic and will be a very rewatchable cult favorite.  Touching, even!  If you're on the fence, give it a go!  If you were going to go, go!  :)  It's better than reviews would have you believe.

Still waiting for this to show up at the Drive-In. Looking forward to it more all the time! Amazing how that happens when you stay true to the original concepts when you revisit a classic. Ain't that right Tim and Johnny?
