Sure but more importantly couldn't someone else have wrote the Dark Shadows script?! A horror/comedy based on Dark Shadows directed by Timur Bekmambetov is still going to be a disappointment to a large base of Dark Shadows fans!
Same script writer for both films. Seth Graeham-Smith adapted his own novel. "Dark Shadows" was a for-hire job that he took over from John August (who gets a "Story by" credit along with SGS). Graeham-Smith was told by Burton and Depp to make the script funnier. I'm sure he could've given us the "straight" adaptation we were hoping for, had he been instructed to do it.

But unfortunately with or without Burton a horror comedy is obviously what the producers of DS (one of which was Johnny Depp) were wanting to go with as well!
