I'll stick the Sam McCain wearable silicone Glenn Strange mask (with Lee Lambert modeling it) in here. The jagged forehead scar suggests it's made after the Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein design.

WOW!! These beautiful works of art reinforce my love of the Monster! Each one of those masterpieces takes me to a different place in my monster memory bank :)
Wonderful pictures Sean!
This is copy #1 of the 5 that Chuck did in latex. I took this pic the first time I owned it. I traded it to a friend who regretted selling his copy, then the collector who bought his flaked out on the deal so he was left with two. He put it back up for sale about the same time I started missing it so it's on its way back to me as we speak.

There's something off about this sculpt. It makes Karloff look too old, and the eyes seem set too close together. It's surprising, because Horne's sculpts are usually so spot-on.

Aren't all Horne's sculpts supposed to be caricatures rather than realistic? They all have that signature 'old man' look with the pursed lips, distorted features, etc. I prefer a less ironic interpretation of the classic monsters but that's just a matter of individual taste.
I always liked the Alvarez Deniro - there are cool hands that go with that one as well.
The Alvarez DeNiro is a full figure, the hands go right up to the elbow

I've seen other Karloff Monsters by DH that were less distorted and more straightforward. Maybe those were the anomalies?

I hadn't realized that. The only pair I ever saw in person was this pair that was in an antique store in San Francisco. I think the figure is really among his best.

These masks/busts and figures are insanely fantastic! I really couldn't breathe as I was slowly scrolling down the screen! Wow!! There are some amazing works of art out there, and I need to see as many as I can! Keep those photos coming....please! The Daniel Horne- Glenn Strange on page 1 is one of my favorite pieces to look at! There's something about the coloring and texture of the skin that is so beautiful! I really want to touch it!
And the Hulk Hogan concept Frankenstein appeals to my senses in a wonderful way :) It is so wonderful and unique- I screamed aloud when I saw it!
Very Very nice collections, everyone! I can't believe that people actually own such treasures. I am in awe of all your glorious creations/collections!

I think DH has his own style. He does do masks/ busts that are straightforward caricatures-----like his Alice Cooper-----and he did do a Glenn Strange Frank that was purposely done with oversized features as it was produced for a stage production (from what I'm told)----and the coloring on it is AWESOME, btw. I think, though, he has plenty of masks/ busts that are his version (he IS an artist) of the subject and are meant to be of the non-caricature variety. I like his stuff.

Thank you Jeff For This Dynamic Duo! :)
You're VERY welcome, Carlos!
I'm glad they went to a good guy...AND
a GREAT collection! Am also glad to see you display it with the plaque I sent!
(Your Nisi collection seems pretty complete now!)
P.S....I have owned several Nisi masks over the years
and never had neckbolts!
Does anyone know if Jack Nisi made neckbolts for them?

What a great thread! I'm a Frankenstein guy and this is more Frankenstein goodness in one place than I've ever seen! A Don Post Glenn Strange Frank is #1 on my "to get" list followed by a Don Post Karloff. I had a chance to buy 2 Pat Newman GS Franks. One painted and haired by David and Laura Lady and the other a blank. Both for $225.00 and I hesitated like a knucklehead and lost out. :( Otherwise the problem is that people ask such high prices for them they're usually out of my range. Someday though. :)

Really nice Don Post masks Kidagain. I would love to own those as well. The Don Post Frankenstein masks are the highest priced of all the re-issues these days and are usually out of my range. I'd say average price asked for these is probably in the $300 to $500 range (Ouch!) where the rest of them with the exception of the Wolfman can be had for closer to their original price of $100 and some even less.
Thanks GG, I would love to have a Glenn Strange Frank reissue but the funds are not there. Plus my wife would kill me! Missed out on a few ebay auctions when the prices were still affordable in my case, now the sky seems to be the limit. Found a Pat Newman blank pull of the GS Frank and painted and haired myself which is what you see second from left in the photo.

Wow! Nice. I thought the Glenn Strange masks were Don Posts that had been repainted. So what is the GS Frank on the far left? Looks like a GS smooth. I could have had a Pat Newman GS Frank that was painted and haired by David and Laura Lady along with an extra blank for $225 for both. I hesitated and lost out. I'm really kicking myself for that now. You did a nice job painting that mask 2nd from left. Looks like it could use a little more shading in the facial crevices but that would require air brushing which is why I'm guessing you didn't do that. But really nice job overall. :)
The GS mask on the left is a smooth GS Frank recast that I picked up on ebay from a member here a number of years ago. I know the shadeing on the Pat Newman was not done by airbrushing since it was my first time painting a mask. That blank technically is a Don Post Frank since Pat Newman worked there.Picked it up from Darren Perks who did the retooling on the calendar reissue masks.

I'll stick the Sam McCain wearable silicone Glenn Strange mask (with Lee Lambert modeling it) in here. The jagged forehead scar suggests it's made after the Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein design.

I actually own this piece now. Got it from Lee. The hair was sub-par so I had Maskahuna re-hair it. He used the same hair fiber that was used for the Universal walk around Franks. He added the green slime streaks and sideburns. It looks 100% better than it did.

Mike, the Frank mask are the ones that are on ebay for about $15.00. The mask only says Made In China. David Lady then took it and repainted and his wife Laura haired it. Kind of looks like a Glenn Strange mask and is large enough to easily wear.

'Nice pic, Kidagain. It's good of you to keep this undying thread active with such fine specimens as ToT's version.
Here's one which hasn't been posted yet: an oversized rubber head I purchased back in the late 1980s.
It was created by Mark Newman in San Francisco during the early stages of his sculpture career >
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q90/14/mnewmanbkfpj5.png)
I kept it for a time, then donated it to the Ackerman Archives. It's plainly visible in many photographs taken at
FJA's former castle off Los Feliz in the Hollywood Hills >
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q90/244/fjawcaptkirkmaskpy7.png)
It must've sold at auction when his estate was liquidated. Where do you suppose it is now? According to
Mr Newman, only a handful were ever cast from his mold.
Is Mark any relation to Pat Newman? Cool Frank mask and I hope it found a good home.

This rarely-seen Glenn Strange FRANKENSTEIN was created in 1981 by Fantasy Faces Studio, a trio of
makeup professionals who made masks for collectors in-between movie jobs. I wore it with full costume
plus boots to a nightclub one Halloween and this young lady got up from her table of five other guests and
started following me around, twice blocking my path as I tried to walk away. After a few minutes of this,
I finally scooped her up in my arms, carried her back and plopped her in her chair. I should've taken her
as my bride ... but for her scowling dinner date! I miss the '80s, when one could still scoop up strange
women and not get arrested for it.

u still have it or is it long gone
I ultimately sold it in 1985 to fellow collector Kerry Cole. Something about its eyes bugged me: they were
sculpted too wide open. Of course it made the mask easier to see out of but also threw off the likeness too much.
The original mold later got out in the collecting community for a while. Dr Lady may have knowledge of its
current whereabouts.

Haha, I'm not sure how to spell his name either but he was probably involved.
In the early 2000s I scored one of the "walk-around" masks then being made for use at Universal Studios Tour.
These were really deluxe affairs with extended front/back bibs, zippered closures, ventilation holes on top (every
full overhead mask should have them), and separately attached resin electrodes. These masks weren't produced
at Don Post Studios although DPS talent was utilized in their making >
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q90/922/zMIJxk.jpg)
To me, the most exciting mask release of the 1970s was the return of
the Glenn Strange FRANKENSTEIN to DP's custom line >
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q90/197/scanjr.jpg)
By now we should all know that it was originally developed using a prop head
from Universal's makeup department >
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q90/255/roughglenn.jpg)
The resulting mask was rather on the small side but its significance as a prop replica more than compensated.
These are the earliest pics I could find of my first edition copy from 1975 >

At $45 each they were pricier than other high-end DPS masks. Still, just being able to stroll into a magic shop
like these and buy one right off the shelf made the mid '70s a great time for mask collecting monsterkids >

GREATEST...FRANKENESTEIN...MASK...EVER!!! From one end of the scale to the other. While I'm sure some people will disagree with me about this, that's how I feel about this House of Frankenstein version! Currently available from TOTS, and based on the Don Post original, it's UNCANNY how much this resembles Glenn Strange! But it's more than just capturing the actor's likeness, the sculpt perfectly embodies the very essence of the Monster, as a reanimated corpse. Finally, to me, Frankenstein's Monster will always be GREEN; therefore, I present my subtle repaint of the piece. Did I mention how much I love this mask?

one I scored in 1973. The two might even have been from the same
production batch!

This is going in my "Separated at Birth" file.
'Only wish I still had the mask itself ...

last weekend. Its cover story features Universal Studios Tour from the
days when they still used Don Post masks on their walkarounds >

Sweet!
That would be Mike Bongiorno. His tenure lasted through September, 1973.
What is the specific issue of the magazine - Issue Number and Month?

It's dated November 2nd, #470. Besides that, there's no "masthead" page at all.
It must've been a supplement to a newspaper of the time. Incidentally, thanks
for bumping your old "Monster Unmasked" thread at the MemMem forum. I'll need
it for reference when I do my post about walkaround masks at Universal Tour.

November 2, 1973 was a Friday. The magazine title is the "Daily" Telegraph. Seems too fancy to be a daily supplement - maybe a Sunday supplement. But, why would it be called a Daily?
Puzzling. Interesting - but puzzling.
I found out some more information on this supplement published by the newspaper from the United Kingdom:
The Daily Telegraph magazine (originally called The Weekend Telegraph when launched in 1964) was dated on Fridays, even though it was distributed with the Saturday newspaper, primarily to ensure the magazine appeared "current" for a longer period of time and to accommodate logistical constraints.
Here are the main reasons for this dating convention:
Extended Shelf Life: Magazines are often kept for several days. By dating the magazine a day ahead (Friday) while it is sold on Saturday, it does not look "old" immediately to someone browsing newsstands over the weekend, making it appear current for longer.
Logistics and Production: The magazine, particularly in its early days, was produced using gravure printing, which required it to be printed in advance. Dating it for Friday allowed for distribution logistical chains to be completed before the weekend.
Distinction from Saturday Paper: It helped distinguish the magazine supplement from the main Saturday newspaper, marking it as a weekend-long read rather than just daily news.
When the magazine was launched in 1964, it came with the Friday paper, but over time, it became a staple of the Saturday edition, though the convention of the Friday date often persisted, or sometimes moved to simply carrying a "Weekend" designation, according to newspaper industry practices.
It would be cool to have that Universal Frankenstein name tag shown on the cover.
