Had to meet my father in law half between their house and our house (around 2 hours north) to pick up Sam, who became home sick after a week at gramma 'n' grampa's; So anyway as I'm driving I notice just a hit of fall color coming thru the green.
Then this a.m. I was called into work, went about an hour or so south this time but was to dark to see anything. Well it wizzed rain on us all morning and someone finally (after 4 hours of this) got the bright idea to call it a day; As I drove home I was treated to some really great looking early autumn colors. The area I was driving in is loaded with hills and valleys and pretty unpopulated, it was really awesome seeing those hills/valleys of green peppered with red, yellow, orange and brown. It also just so happened to be gloomy out, with a little mist in the air and some chill, every once in awhile you'd see spots of low lying fog in the valleys. The whole atmosphere reminds me of Friday the 13th.
Can't wait to take the family out for the usual drive to look at autumn in full regalia! Of course here in Missouri (and I think much of the midwest) it is going to be a short fall color season due to the lack of rain.
I haven't even seen a hint of Fall here in the Hoosier State - dammit!
The early mornings are getting more brisk here in NJ. Sunday I could shut off the A/C and open windows. Loved it!

I haven't seen a hint of Fall in over 30 years. Man I hate Florida.

There are no seasons in Phoenix. Just Hot, Damn Hot, and Why Did I Move Here?
I would love to see leaves of yellow, orange, red....
It appears that hurricane Irene has sped up the fall process a bit here on eastern Long Island...no hint of color changes in the leaves as of yet, but more and more dead ones are on the ground in the yard every day. Not unusual after such extreme weather conditions...
No fall colors here yet in the DC area. But this morning has a nice autumn feel to it...looking forward to the crisp, brisk fall weather.
Fall is definitely my favorite season. It's a real richness and a peacefull moment. Never too hot, never too cold. The days are nice and the colors are changing slowly which gives an element of mystery to the days. It seems like time has stopped. A very heartwarming feeling.
And of course halloween is just around the corner.
We noticed a wee hint of it from the rooftops this week (in Ct.)
Temps in the area are supposed to (finally) drop into the 60s
after today's thunderstorms-
then we should really start getting into it~ ;D
As is typical of Indiana weather, last week, we had record highs - this week, record lows. Gonna take a short road trip later today (90-100 miles), so maybe I'll see a little gold & orange!
Here you go...

Want a cup of hot chocolate?
Don't you hate it when you are out just enjoying the fall colors and then someone has to come along and ruin it!!

Karen, I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that! Thanks for the best chuckle of the day!
That sounds really beautiful!
However, nobody will ever take me around to see the fall colors. Nobody!
That's because I hate fall! Yes true! It's very psychological I think. I hated school when I was little, I mean I really hated it! When fall started coming I knew I had to go to school. So I hated all those fall colors. I carried that into adulthood.
Now oddly enough, I'm a teacher. Go figure!

Damn boaters always interrupting my nap!
Looks like you'll be taking a dip in the pool to admire the view.
Taking a walk in the woods on a autumn day, when the greens of summer give way to the rich reds, blazing oranges and warm browns of the fall.
Fall is a great time for watching spooky classics. You sit down, open the window a bit and you just feel that cool breeze coming in.
Ya got that right, FrankSr.!
The cool breezes of both spring and fall always trigger memories of childhood for me. I love this time of year. Now that all the humid weather has passed, I think it's time to hike some of the mountain trails.
Remember the smell of burning leaves?
Ah, the aromas of Fall . . .
Burning leaves and the smell of folks in the neighborhood firing up their coal furnaces.
. . . and the occasional witch . . .
::)
That time of year again!!! Did a little driving around today looking at some fall colors while listening to The 99 Darkest Pieces of Classical Music!!
Here in NW GA., I have seen some of the trees starting to turn. No red or gold yet. I have been hoping for an Indian Summer, but it's supposed to get down into the 40s tomorrow night- bleh! I hate cold weather. All my trees still have their leaves, so we haven't had any "ambiance" leaves to decorate our yard haunt- hahahaha!
Here in the Chi-Town burbs my maples are still all green. Haven't cut my lawn in 6-7 weeks tho it does need it. Supposed to get down into the 20's at night this week. Weird weather again this this year.
20s..........40s.............HEAVEN!!! It's been hovering near 90 freaking degrees here.
