Title: Remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan....
Post by: Illoman on August 26, 2011, 09:59:04 PM
He played his last show twenty one years ago tonight. More than just a great guitar player: an artist in the truest sense of the word. His playing touches my spirit, and I honestly can't think of another player who evokes the emotions in me like he does. I just "feel" his music in my gut. May God rest his soul....

We've had this discussion before , Mike and are both certainly on the same page when it comes to Stevie [''You'll know me when you hear me''] Ray....Every time i play one of his songs on guitar [today it was Lenny] i have to wonder what he would have been up to these days musically. You could compare him to Hendrix, but Hendrix brought about his own demise...Stevie was was in the early stages of rediscovering himself clean and sober....I'm sorry, but having such a positive life force randomly plucked from this world really makes me wonder what God was thinking. This should NOT have happened.

That makes 3 of us for sure. But his legacy lives on.

Not true.
There are two theories. One is a conspiracy that Jimi's manager fed him too much booze and pills to cash in on the insurance $ because he owed the mob ALOT of $ in gambling debts and was just plain greedy.

The other is more believable. Jimi did have afew too many and some downers and had a miner O.D.
Back then ambulance drivers did very little except transport patients. They made him/kept him lying down when in fact they should have had him sitting up. Jimi died choking on his own vomit due to stupid laws and a couple lame brains. Who knows where the music world would have gone if Hendrix had  lived another 30-40 years.

Hendrix wouldn't have survived another 30 or 40 days living like he did.

wow, it's hard to believe it's been that long. I was always a fan of Stevie Ray and I have some of his CDs. What an amazing guitar playing

Lester, I think Gasport meant that due to his constant drug abuse Jimi brought about his own demise. Stevie realized he almost died and sought help. He made it his mission to preach sobriety to folks after his concerts. Had he lived perhaps the same would have happened to Jimi as far as choosing sobriety. Sadly, we'll never know.
