Alexander Courage who composed the theme to the orignial Star Trek series passed on May 15 at age 88. He also scored individual episodes of Lost In Space, Land of the Giants and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea as well as work on a number of other TV shows and films as both composer and orchestrator.
As the story goes about the Trek theme, Gene Roddenberry wanted a "piece of the action" on the theme, so he actually wrote lyrics to it. In that way he could take credit as co-composer and reap any future royalty benefits from it.
