I would have pointed out how this gene crossover might allow humans to catch diseases which normally don't target humans.  After seeing Sean's pics, who cares.  Now I'm thinking a new cat in the house might be nice.

This is not something we need to do.. I draw the line at this. Digging up humans and making Frankenstein Monsters? Sure. Invisibility? Absolutely. Killer Robots? Why Not? Delving into your evil side? Cool.. But no Animal Human Hybrids.

I guess they never saw Splice.  That didn't work out so well.

The source of the story was The Daily Mail, a tabloid of dubious credibility.

These folks have been sued for libel by several celebrities including a £100,000 award to Elton John, and a £30,000 damages award to Diana Rigg.
The paper also has a reputation for fear mongering and publishing wildly inaccurate stories.  One former reporter stated that it was common to know what the headline would be, and it would be his job to make the story fit.  If you look the photo of the man in the hazmat suit in the "lab", you will notice a small disclaimer stating it is "Posed by models."

Here is another journalistic gem from the same source:

I'm already working on my Heston impression: Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!

I did a search for 'leopard man', hoping to get an image of the thing in the Island of Dr. Moreau---------thinking it would be a cool head to mount on the wall.

I instead was treated to THIS fool...

Here's something that you'd have to hit the 'scrub' button on as well...
