Hey Gang --
I'm sure there are many of you like yours truly who in addition to our beloved Monsters, enjoyed and played with Major Matt Mason space toys. I think from childhood, I held onto one of Captain Lasers treads--and more recently just got a great deal on one with all of it's accessories. Anyway, I digress...
Tom Hanks has gotten behind a 3D Major Matt Mason movie project, with his Playtone Pictures, and early word is that Robert Zemeckis is on board to direct.
How cool is this!!

Obviously VERY COOL! I really appreciate Hank's respect for his subject material, so I expect he'll at least acknowledge the place old matt Mason has in the hearts of it's fans. Can't wait to see the moon walker on the big screen (though I hope Matt's wires in his arms and legs don't break during the movie! :D )
Rob, I just mentioned good ol' Major Matt in the non-monster toy thread this morning! I no longer have any of those toys, but we sure loved them as kids. Of course, this was at a time when the space program was still very strong and every kid wanted to be an astronaut. How things have changed...
If Hanks and Zemekis are behind a film, I'd give it a look.
Oh my word! A Major Matt Mason movie?? Tom Hanks had better include Billy Blastoff! ;D ;D
Very cool! :) The Major Matt Mason figure was the first toy I remember having. Probably at four years old. I still need to get one someday!

And the Colorforms Outer Space Men! I'd pay to see a battle between MMMs against a Colossus Rex army!

I almost posted this over there Karen!
I actually failed to mention that I have a pretty extensive, albeit far from complete MMM collection, including all Orig Astronaut figs, a FEW Captain Lasers, Calisto, but am still looking for a Scorpio, and a Sears Exclusive Vinyl moonscape playset. Crawler, Buggy and Firebolt Cannon All functional and Space Station still lights up.
About 15 years ago, I picked up the Leadworks knock-offs so I'd have the whole team, before I was able to re-collect the originals. Not sure If my MMM has the Blue stripe on his suit or the black one.
I sold all of mine about 10 years ago and bought Creature stuff! :D I had those OG.

Matt Mason was before my time but I'm familiar with the toys. They are neat toys. It's too bad they weren't more durable. I like the vehicles and playsets more than the figures.
Trivia: I read the Major Matt Mason figure has actually been in space. The action figure flew on a few shuttle missions, including the John Glenn flight.
My brother had an MMM. He had a really cool vehicle that the wheels were actually spokes and it sort of crawled around. I loved that one.
Santa gave me a handful of MMM toys, Christmas of '67. They were fantastic, & I think a movie would be great!

Yeah, I saw that too about MMM on the Space Shuttle with John Glenn--A Real American Hero...it's also mentioned on the Wikipedia for Major Matt Mason

Found this box of MMM stuff at an estate sale many years ago. I wasn't early to the sale, but I always look under the tables...especially if there is a table cloth that may hide what is down under. Bam! There set a boxed MMM set......I've thrown in lots of other MMM stuff to the box over the years......I'd check out the contents, but I'm afraid of the possible avalanche! Buddy
Wow! That just flabbergasted me! I haven't thought about that Space Command Set in 40 some years!

Yea UP, that's a pretty cool set. MMM came with so very many accessories and add on items sold separately.......kinda reminded me of G I Joe with all his accessory packs. Glad I wasn't a MMM completest...........that would have been expensive. I know I have acouple of the alien Callisto in that box, but I never came across the reddish alien.....Scorpio (?) Buddy
By the Power of GRAYSKULL!!
That command set is SO cool. 8)

Here's a neat MMM puzzle. I put it together for this photo.......Not so many pieces, so didn't strain my mind! Pretty large too........I think it's like 20 inches across. Very colorful.......Buddy

Here's the puzzle's box. I'm big on original boxes.......Buddy
Loving that MMM haul Buddy!!
Very cool illustration on that puzzle!
Bought 2 puzzles...... one being this MMM puzzle with 125 pieces. The pieces were large, making this a joy to put together. The second puzzle is a Dark Shadows with 1,500 small pieces. Has Barnabas and a Hell hound walking through a graveyard at night......all in dark shades of blue/black. Now that will be a bear to construct! Buddy

Careful now Sean! Scatter has worked hard to convince us that that is not the true Kong. Do not invoke his wreath!
Sean......Can't help but recall an old episode of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.....Johnny was reading from Q cards and introduced Sean Connery as Seen (or Scene) Connery. I guess that's how it might come out if you were reading it. Sean gently, and with a sly smile corrected Carson. Johnny was quite embarrassed........Buddy
