* Gilligan's 1st name is often reffered to as "Willy" in fan- lore;
** Paladin's actual name was never mentioned in the series;
*** Caje was referred to as "Caje" (Cajon French)because of his New Orleans roots, but his name was never actually disclosed;
**** Murray's last name is mentioned during several episodes;
***** Originally a character in Ian Fleming's "Dr. No";
******Also portrayed by John Astin in a few later episodes, but Gorshin defined the role.
******** Drake had the lead in both series, which were tie- ins of each other
Wo Fat defined the "Cold War Villain" that was portrayed on the small and big screen during the 1960's- 1970's
that's a few names off of the top of my head, I'm sure that I will think of more....
As a fan of Combat, I thought that 'Caje' was Paul Lemay .. looked it up and according to crazyabouttv.com ..
Pierre Jalbert played the role of PFC Paul "Caje" Lemay on Combat. In the pilot episode, however, his character's name was Caddy Cadron. It's unclear why the name was changed.
Yes, he was indeed Flower- good eye :)
I have the majority of Combat! on DVD. I also neglected to do my homework with Jalbert's character.
I had a cat named Kirby ... guess where I got that name .. ;D
I love the shows that Robert Altman directed ... 8)
Kirby almost always had a way of going against the grain ;)
This is one of the great series in TV history, IMO.
Gotta agree on Combat. Thanks to MeTV I'm catching up on this great show!
The problem that I am having with MeTV is that they are hacking the shows up to free commercial space.
I was upset about Vic Morrow and the two children being killed on the set of 'The Twilight Zone' movie ... This is a good read about the trial ~
Outrageous Conduct: Art, Ego, and the Twilight Zone Case by Stephen Farber, Marc Green
I was also sadden to discover a few days ago that Rick Jason killed himself .. the following is from Wikipedia ~ Jason died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound one week after the Combat! reunion on October 16, 2000 in Moorpark, California.
Rick shot himself through the head after receiving bad news from his doctor. He was a very bright guy and died with the only dignity he knew rather than lie in a hospital and just "wait".
Rick's memoirs can be read here:
http://www.scrapbooksofmymind.com/ (http://www.scrapbooksofmymind.com/)
The incident involving Vic Morrow was horrendous and he "knew" it was coming. The children who were with him were illegal minors whose parents were working for a small stipend. They were also working for the studio where John Landis was filming.
The entire action set was laden with safety violations, from pyrotechnics right over to the equipment. The whole thing was a disaster waiting to happen.
Vic even called Rick a few days before and expressed concerns about the safety (or lack thereof) while making TZ: the Movie.
QuoteOutrageous Conduct: Art, Ego, and the Twilight Zone Case by Stephen Farber, Marc Green
I've never read this. I'll look for it on either Amazon or Kindle.
This entire thing involving Vic Morrow's death was so tragic and not necessary to say the least. To save a few bucks on safety, Landis nickle- and- dimed everything involved involving the Vietnam scene. But I also blame the people who were in charge on inspections at the studio. It sounds like no one bothered to inspect the equipment that was being used on the set.
It's a good book, also goes into the trial and how the L.A. prosecutor Lea D'Agostino blew the case...
I don't remember how many people testified that John Landis kept yelling "lower, Lower, LOWER until the helicopter was only 24 feet above Vic Morrow and the children and when Landis was on the stand he denied that he ever said it .. :( >:(
I hate John Landis!
D'Agostino and the state of California (to say the very least) dropped the ball here- big time.
I want to read this book.
Everyones picks are really great but I want to give a big shoutout to the one and only Cool Ghoul Zacherley. One of my all time favorite TV characters.
