Title: CDC Issues Zombie Attack Guide
Post by: judd on May 19, 2011, 06:38:32 PM
The Center for Disease Control has issue a guide for what to do in case of a zombie attack.  Here's the link.

My cousin sent me this early this morning with the comment "Doesn't the CDC have anything better to do?".  I thought it was awesome, but then thought about her comment a few hours later. At least it was thorough!  :)

Destroy the stairs first and always have an escape route. As I live in the U.K guns are out so I'll just have to do a Kirk and talk them back to death. What's zombie for "Please don't eat my brains". What is scary is the fact that it could happen, how's it go again "ugh slurp yum belch!"

It is still awesome! ;D

Read the article.  There are plenty of tips for surviving any number of real emergencies and disasters.  They just put a Zombie Apocalypse spin on it to make it fun and interesting.  I'll bet more people will read it and remember what to do in an emergency than would have if it were written in dull governmentese.

No weapons? What kind of nonsense is that? Food but no weapons merely fattens us up for the undead. I'll use my new weapon, the Mosin Nagant.

Dr Madd  -You scored a nice mil-surp sniper rifle. I believe it fires 7.62x39 like my Yugo 59/66? Both fine Zombie defense!

That is if it is one of the sniper version.  There were about 30million of these rifles made between its introduction in the 1890s and 1965.  They are pretty good for a bolt-action rifle.  Most are not too accurate, but the Russians depended on huge hordes of troops not well trained ones.

I had one of those a while back.  Not bad at all.  And they are so dirt common, you can pick up one for under $200 bucks.  I bought one for less than 100.

But for a Zombie Apocalypse?  I'd go with something with a caliber little more common.  Not all abandoned malls, sporting goods stores and farm houses will have 7.62 Russian ammo laying around.

For Zombie defense. I would opt for something like a 12 gauge shotgun.  Maybe a 20 gauge for the wife.  Quick response to a zombie popping up does not allow much time to line up your shot.  If you have to rely on a rifle, go for something with a faster and easier rate of fire than a bolt-action.  Maybe lever action or semi-auto.  Maybe in 30.06 or 30-30.

Of course, you cannot go too far wrong with .22.  After all, the ammo is cheap and readily available.  You can carry 1000 rounds of .22 in the space and weight of 100 rounds of 30.06 or 30 rounds of 12 gauge.
And since Zombies are pretty much dead and rotten, you don't need lots of stopping power.

Those are all excellent points! But I buy modern (Wolf) 7.62 - same as the AK uses if I'm not mistaken and readily available. My SKS is only  a semi 10 rounder but I have plenty of zip-clips. Plus the bayonet. Plus the grenade launcher. I love my Yugo. But I love Zombies too...hmmm

Well, the dead are supposed to walk the Earth tomorrow at 6pm, right?  I mean-------May 21, 2011 is the latest predicted date for doomsday.  So info on surviving zombie-attacks is suddenly pertinent!

Mine fires 7.62X54r Beautiful weapon, though. I love the Nagant. Going out to get dog at night, with my rifle on my shoulder, I feel some real comfort.

Sooo . . .

After you get dog with your Nagant, what do you do with it?
Stir fry it, chicken fry it, or make a stew?

You might want to try Szechuan Chihuahua.

It also works well with Jack Russel Terriers, Yorkies, and other smaller types.  It also works well for pigeons, spotted owls and larger rodents.
Cats are only suitable if nothing else is available.  They should be prepared Hunan Style.

Ingredients:

1 to 1 1/2 T oil
3 cloves garlic, whole
5 spring onions, cut into half inch lengths. Use the white bits only.
3/4 inch ginger
About 15 dried chilis - You may find them at Asian food stores. They are what make this dish special, so don't substitute with anything else. You can add more or less depending on taste.

300 grams chihuahua meat, cubed.

Marinate the chihuahua in:

2 Tbsp dark soy sauce
1 Tbsp Chinese wine or sherry
1/2 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp sugar
dash of pepper and salt to taste

Sauce:
1/2 tsp sesame oil
3 Tbsp dark vinegar
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp Chinese wine
1 Tbsp dark soy sauce
1 T water

Heat oil in wok until it's really hot. Throw in the garlic, ginger and the spring onion and fry until the kitchen resonates with the fragrance.  Throw in the dried chilis and fry them with the garlic, ginger and spring onion.
Fry them together for another minute or so, then throw in the chihuahua, which will cook pretty fast because of the high heat you're using. Once it looks done, throw in the sauce, mix, and serve up.  If a thicker gravy is desired, add in a mixture of 1 tbsp corn flour in 1 tbsp water.

You're a sick, sick man. I love that about you.

Reminds me of a PETA bumper sticker I saw once: "You wouldn't eat your pets, would you?"

I thought, "No. But if I was starving, I'd eat YOUR pets."

;D

I usually use a sausage grinder and make brats, but I must try that recipe.

I'm not a gun person but I've always heard, esp from my baby bro who was a sniper, that a head shot is difficult in the heat of battle. With that being the case wouldn't the modern equivalent of a blunderbuss be better for the unskilled masses?

I keep a warhammer for the down and dirty.

As for the PETA sticker.. I want one that reads, "There's room for all God's creatures- Between the salad and the baked potato"
