I am sad to announce that Uncula has passed. But I must say he did enjoy all the cards that members sent him and it made him happy. His passing was quick. Thank you.
Oh Eyrdie, this is such terrible news. My condolences to you, your mom, his wife and your whole family. This group has lost too many wonderful people that were so passionate not about their monsters, but their fellow members. Your Uncle Don really enjoyed himself here at the UMA. He will be missed by us all.\
Rob
Eyrdie, this is so sad. I am so sorry to hear this. He was just a great guy and will be very missed. Rest in peace, now, Don - your pain & suffering is over. Prayers & condolences to you, Eyrdie, and to Don's wife and all his family & friends.
That is sad news.........I knew him little but will miss him much......Buddy
Here's a photo (from Dan Roebuck) from old thread showing Don (sitting in his scooter) at last year's Horrorhound.
We all knew how disappointed Don was that he was going to miss this year's. I'd like to think that now he will get to go to the ultimate show where Boris, Bela, Lon, and the rest of our favorites are guests. He is surely in a better place.
I am so sorry to hear that Don has left us. Earlier this evening I looked up the thread Gary had started to see if we had any good news. He was always kind, friendly, and lots of fun here at the UMA. I am sad that I will no longer get a chance to read his funny quips. My condolences to his family. Believe me, he will be missed.
I had noticed that he was signed in earlier and sent him a PM, this is shocking news. Parting is such sweet sorrow, rest in peace Don you will be missed. My condolances to his family and to you Eyrdie because you brought him happiness though the forum as he seemed reluctant at first.
Very sorry to read this sad news -- my condolences to his family and friends.
My condolences to his family in prayer.... I read this and was completely and utterly stunned.
I know him but little, but I hope he saves us all a seat at the monster movie marathon in the next life.
This is very sad. He was such an enthusiastic member. I got the feeling that the UMA was one of the high points of his life. He was certainly supportive of my endeavors, and I appreciate that. I will miss his presence here, and on Facebook, where he communicated with me a lot. If he had to go, too bad it couldn't have been a few days later so he could have hung out with us at MaskFest. He was cheated of that last bit of fun.
This is so horribly sad. Don was so passionate about this group and supported us in many ways. He was looking forward to discussing his idea for a UMA logo belt buckle at this past MaskFest. I hope he knew how much he was appreciated here. Rest in peace, Don.
I am very sorry to hear this news.
My prayers and condolences go out to every member of his family. My heart goes out to us at the UMA also for the loss of a very special piece of our little family. I will miss his poems and sence of humor. Rest in peace Don.
Rest in peace Uncula.
You will live on in all our hearts.
That's a terrible pity. My condolences.
George

I am sorry sorry for your loss. I can't find the words right now, but I want you to know how beloved he was to me. He made me smile every day with his delightfully silly Facebook posts and I feel like he belonged to my family as well. Eyrdie, please let me know if I can do anything for your family. Anything at all. My heart aches for you all. Uncula, I miss you so much already.
My prayers and thoughts go out to you Edie and your family at this time.So sorry for your loss.
Eyrdie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing it with us, his UMA family. We are here for you.
Paul
Peace to you Don, and my condolences to his family,
Adam
My heart goes out to all family and friends. I have faith that Don is enjoying a more comfortable, joyous existence now.
I am sad to hear this. Don was my Christmas exchange partner this past year which I enjoyed interacting with him. My condolences to Don's family.

This is such terrible news. Don was always such a passionate member here at UMA. His support, and affection for the classic monsters, as well as for the UMA, will be deeply missed. If only he could have made it to Maskfest.
Rest in peace Don. We will miss you. :(
The UMA flag has been lowered to half mast in your honor.
My condolences to his family.
Rest in Peace Uncula.
Very sad news. He was a devoted and passionate fan of classic monsters and beloved UMA member. Condolences to all his family and friends. Uncula will be missed.
My heartfelt condolences! Peace & Light to all who know & love him!!
Sad news indeed. Rest in peace Uncula.
Don's postings were always a source of joy here on the UMA. He will be greatly missed by all. My prayers are with his family and friends.
Oh no! That's terrible news. Here we all thought he was getting better. I was just sad that he had to miss MaskFest.
When I joined this board earlier this year Uncula was among the first few posters I learned to pick out as individuals. I'm really saddened.
:(
God Bless Him and his Family. He will be missed but never forgotten.
In my short time here, I didn't get a chance to interact with him. But, seeing his big ol' Bela avatar in "Shout Outs" soon became a familiar sight. My deepest sympathies to his family and all his friends here at UMA. It's sad to know there's one less monster fan amongst us.
I am so sorry and sad .. He and his humor will be missed ... R.I.P. Uncula

You know I can just feel the pall descending upon his many friends on this forum precisely since I'm experiencing it myself. I'm going to fight it though, quite simply because Uncula would not have wanted the lively enthusiasm that he felt himself to be diminished in the rest of us.
Gone but never forgotten! Rest in peace Don. :(
I spoke with Don's wife Debby this morning. She's comforted by that which comforts all those who abide in Christ, as is Don. When we spoke she expressed her gratitude for the joy you all brought to Don through your posts, prayers, and the many cards and letters sent by the UMA membership. She mentioned that they were both overwhelmed by your generosity in sending Don so many little cards and notes and gifts. She took over a wall of Don's hospital room and pasted them all over where he could see them.
She also told me that he couldn't believe you would all do that for him, taking the time and effort to reach out to him, and he asked her to read the many cards and notes over and over to him in his last few days. He got a tremendous amount of joy from your generosity of spirit, friendship, and sense of fun, and Debby wanted you all to know that.
Don, I'll miss our notoriously long phone calls, your sense of humor, your basso profundo voice, your ready laughter, and our friendship. Rest well my friend, until we meet again. I love you buddy.
A vital member of this group and all around nice guy who's presence already is and will continue to be sorely missed , but never forgotten. My condolences to all his friends and family. As sad as this is, there is something to be said for an end to suffering...You just know that whatever it is that's waiting for us on the other side, Don will be making the most of it and enjoying the afterlife to it's fullest. RIP, Brother.
I am so very sorry. My condolences to his family and friends.
My condolences to his family and friends.
It is sad news. I believe God understands the loss and pain one feels when they lose someone close to them. He had numerous friends via the internet and touched people he would never meet in person. Through this forum we can share our hobby and experiences with other fans.
God bless.
I am so sorry. This is sad news. We have lost a great member here, but he lives on in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace Don. My prayers go out to his family.
I want to add my condolences to his family and all his close friends here at UMA. I'm sorry for the loss of our fellow monster fan. May he rest in peace.
My Beloved UMA FANG-MILY,
I am, usually, only, on the UMA, to post another LIMERICK, my time allotment, to seriously browse the site, being minimal, at best.
To have learned, there, today, of UNCLE DON'S Passing, via MAURICE'S LIMERICK, was a shock...
DON'S Presence, here, was LUMINOUS, GRACIOUS, GENTLE and TRUE!
He is written, upon our Hearts; a Boon Combrade, of THE EVERNOW!
I am Honoured, to have shared the lovely, fun, times, at a few Conventions, with DON, EYRDIE & MOMULA...
'Tis, likewise, an Honour, to be, in the Photo, posted, from last year's HORRORHOUND, with him and our UMA Gang!
We were, and, are, Blest, to count DON, among the UMA Greats; He is Unforgettable.
DON, may Your JOY, BE, EVERNOW, COMPLETE, in THE LIVING GOD, WHOM You so LOVED... and, WHO So LOVES You!
EXANIMO EVERNOW,
BETH & TIMMY, B.G.G.
This morning when I saw Uncula's post was moved to the cemetery I was in shock. I also thought in time he would pull thru. I did not know him well but he had a ton of friends here , he was fun to have around and he will be missed. My thoughts and positive vibes go out to his family and loved ones. Say hey to Bela Unc. :(

He was always a quick witted friend,
Fully armed and ready to defend,
His humour was outright fun,
Although at times sometimes a cruel pun,
Would slip in but never to offend.
In honour of our UMA brother Don aka Uncula.

THE SHADOW OF DEATH A Limerick!!

As I walked through the Shadow of Death
My thoughts were gone, my sight even less
But He blessed me and saw me through
As I knew that He could do
Do I praise Him? A resounding YES!

I just heard about this tragic loss of a UMA family member.
Uncula/ Don Rest in Peace, my friend.
My prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends.
I think that Uncula should receive a posthumous promotion to at least Major ... :(
Thank you so much for all your prayers, cards, well wishes & support for Don & I throughout this difficult time. Being part of the UMA family brought him so much joy & he truly cared for each one of you. He asked me several times to re-read his cards & letters while he was in the hospital. I had everthing displayed on his wall so he could look at them while he was there. He was truly amazed & touched that so many people cared for him.
God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Uncula
Just checking in for the first time since last evening and see this very sad news. My condolences to all of Don's family and closest friends. R.I.P. Uncula!
Oh, no! My condolences to all of his family and friends. I will miss him!!
Wow, this has been a busy week and I am just now getting the news. Very shocking, terribly sad. God bless him and the family, he will be missed here at the UMA.
Don's presence here touched us all and he will be sorely missed. It's good to know that the UMA family brought him happiness and made him feel that he had friends in far away places. That's something that this group of caring people has done over and over and will continue to do. Rest in Peace, Uncula.
Love and prayers to him and his family.
I just saw this thread now and am so sad to hear this ! My deepest condolences and prayers to Uncula's family. :'(

General, is there some kind of status that we can give our fallen soldiers?

Thanks Gary. You can really feel Don's absence around here. I miss all his funny quips. He wrote a cute little poem for me too. About two days before we knew of his passing, I had picked up a little Dracula figure I was going to send him. It's still sitting here on my desk. I just can't bring myself to do anything with it.
I third the request: can we give our dear Uncula some sort of special title?
My condolences to family and friends.

I know the feeling Karen........I sent him a little Scatter monkey to keep in his hospital room. Then Nancy wanted to send him something to hang on his little red scooter, so she picked up a red sock monkey. But he passed before we could send it out. I have it hanging from the stained glass lamp by my bed.
I had sent him a homemade card with some monster-y artwork on it, which I'm sure he recieved. But I had just finished a drawing of Don as "Uncula, The Vampire" - sadly, he was gone before I could get it to him.

How about showing it here. I'm sure we and all his family would love to see it.

I sent Don a DVD copy of the Zacherley Archives, [the only existing kinescopes from 4 of Zach's shows including Roland and Shock Theater] a copy of the first CD i did w/Zach [Dead Man's Ball] and a card featuring a monkey in a ballerina costume on the front. On the inside i wrote ''what are the chances? I walk into the card shop and the first card i'm confronted with has a pic of Scatter on it!'' My package arrived April 1st, according to delivery confirmation. Hopefully, he did get to see the card, if nothing else... I didn't correspond with Don very much here, but always enjoyed his enthusiastic , heartfelt posts. His presence is sorely missed.
I haven't been able to talk much about Uncula's passing , but I did want you all to know of a couple of things . . . In his obituary, it was mentioned that he was a member of the UMA. His wife said she didn't dare leave that out. :) Also, at his viewing, there was a board containing many of the cards, masks, and a little gorilla statue that meant so much to him in his last days. He thought you all were wonderful, and he was right.
momula- Thank you so much for posting this! I am so happy to have had his friendship in my life. :)
I really did not know Don at all, but enjoyed his posts very much. Although his presence will be missed, he shall long remain here within us.
