Title: Scarecrow Cartoons - WAY Off Topic
Post by: Monsters For Sale on May 08, 2008, 01:46:38 PM
I'm looking for info on a series of stop-action cartoons featuring a scarecrow and crow from the 1950's (or earlier).  The crow sat on the scarecrow's shoulder and would say or do something stupid which would cause the scarecrow tell a morality tale to demonstrate the crow's error in judgement.  The crow would always mis-understand the point of the tale and end the cartoon with a wisecrack.

The same formula was used in the later Aesop and Son cartoons that aired on the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show.

The scarecrow and crow characters were done in black dialect similar to Amos & Andy.  In the 1950's they reminded me of the Uncle Remus stories.  I'm sure they have disappeared because they would be considered too racist today.

Anyone know the name of this series of cartoons, or about possible availability on DVD?

I know what it was.

George Pal Puppetoons,  Madcap Melodys, Jasper stop motion cartoons with Professor Scarecrow.

Here is one:  "Jasper and the Haunted House"

Jasper and the Haunted House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OehR5S9zt4#)

Seems I remember these incorrectly.  Scarecrow acts like George Kingfish Stevens with Andrew H. Brown and tries to swindle Jasper out of his gooseberry pie.

As a small child I was fascinated by these cartoons on TV.  Mainly because they used 3-dimensional characters instead of flat drawings.

(Sincerest apologies to all the members who find these unredeemably offensive.)

Be careful, Adam. This fellow said something in a threatening fashion, but all I can repeat is "...HONKEY...Crackuh...AISS!"
