Why buy a recast of these two kits or recast of any kit in General?I manage to score a Horizon unbuilt and Original for a little under 100.00 bucks. If you guys just shop around you will find loads of Original Billikens and Horizon kits for a reasonable price on ebay or Reputable Dealers. But to buy a recast is only going to Contribute to the Destruction of this Hobby of Ours.I know the UMA board takes a Neutral approach on this topic when it arises in different forms (recasting) and leaves me scratching my head as to why :o.But this is their board and they can run it however they like to see it runned. But here is Recasting Faq that manage to save in my favs and hopefully this will make sense to you all as it makes sense to me.
But remember we all have a choice so make it count if we still like to see this side of the Hobby remain!

But as for now, since ive only done 2 models, if someone offers me a cheap ol recast, i wouldnt not take it and practice my painting skills. sorry

I understand that point 250 is a bit much even for that billiken kit.But there are others who might have that Original for lesser price that might contact you.But the key to getting Originals like the Billikens is Timing and patience if you have both of those in your aresonal then you will obtain originals for a nice price and have a Original on the shelf that you can be proud of to call your own!

Well ebay is a start just have to know which is originals and what is recasts on there and if your unsure just ask around sure someone will be able to help you out on that one.Plus kit shows like wonderfest they have alot of Reputable dealers that have billikens etc on the table and usually Sundays at kit shows is the best timing score to one of those kits as dealers like to get rid of old stock fast so it makes their load they have to carry back a little lighter.Another method is posting in the swap and sell be specific let the person that has the kit your looking for know in advance you want a Original and also be firm with them let them know what your willing to pay out for the kit. They probably will make a deal with you that both you and the dealer can walk away happy about. Also never jump at the first one you see look around wait and see if another popups little cheaper they do at times and if its a buildup that is still good to grab up as long as its a original and if your not happy with the previous owners paint job you can always strip it and repaint it yourself. But as for dealers their alot that sells originals XOFACTO,KITKONG,GEOMETRIC, just to name a few.But collecting Original kits boils down to two things Patience and Timing to get a kit at a affordbale price and if you have that then you will come across alot of great kits from alot of cool people in this hobby!

Plus want to point out and it something that is over looked and that never gets mentioned. If it wasnt for the Garage kit dealers making Original kits of Frankentein monster and the wolfman or even Dracula. The memories of the Universal Monsters and others would have died out long ago when Aurora shut their doors. So lets Thank them for keeping the wolfman howling and Frankenstein walking by supporting them and buy Original Garage kits!

This is a good discussion and I don't want to remove it, because it has a lot of good points.  If it had been reported to us earlier, it would have been removed.  At the UMA, we don't allow recast kits to be sold in our forum, and we also do not allow people to solicit to purchase them.  But we don't read all the threads on this board.  Moderators read only a small percentage of them, and frequently we don't notice an issue until it is pointed out to us.  We all have families and other interests.

At the bottom right corner of each post, there is a link "Report To Moderator".  Clicking this link will open up a text box so that you can describe any issue you may have with a thread, and sends an email to forum moderators and administrators so that we can review your complaint in context of the thread.  This thread was brought to our attention when someone started a thread on another forum about how the UMA is bad for the modeling hobby because we allow this kind of thread to exist.  Actually, we do not allow it to exist, we weren't aware that it did exist.

General Terry posted yet another new thread in an attempt to explain our position on this issue, and I encourage everyone to read it.
