Check out this link -looks like another attempt at an updated Godzilla.

I heard Seth Rogen is playing the big guy in this version.
At least this time they seem to have a handlr on the Big G's personality and look. Plus Toho is actively involved in the producing end this time , probably to make sure they don't end up with another travesty like the 98 crapfest.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. As soon as I see an official report with the word "suitmation" in it, I'll upgrade to genuinely optimistic!
Godzilla doesn't need to be "updated". He just needs to be done right.
cl:)
Even though I think they need to keep big G's charm.
I am also cautiously optimistic about this one. Having Toho actually involved is a huge step in the right direction-Yoshimitsu banno, who directed Godzilla vs the Smog monster back in 1971, is the producer for Toho on this movie. They did say that the effects would be CGI, but as long as they have Godzilla's look and personality down, I think it will be spectacular. Toho themselves did a 100% CGI Godzilla for a cameo dream sequence in the 2007 movie Always sunset on third street 2. I hope that we can see this as a preview of the 2012 version. Check it out:
Always 2 - Godzilla full CGI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEEXydQc9KE#)
In the meantime, Toho has also been shooting new suitmation effects scenes for pachinko games in 2009 and 2010. pachinko parlors are hugely popular in japan and are a kind of arcade/slot machine type thing I guess. Veteran effects director Koichi kawakita directed the new scenes for bopth games utilizing various monster suits from the Millenium movies. here is a 10 m inute promotion video for the 2010 game with lots of views of the new effects scenes:

David Goyer is now writing/ re-writing the script...

With Gareth Edwards ("Monsters") directing and Goyer scripting, this could end up being pretty decent.

True...now the only other remake I ever need to see is a Creature from the Black Lagoon one because it's way overdo. An Americanized Gamera film would be interesting but it would probably be so westernized that it would share nothing in common with it's Japanese brother....Gamera is just too "goofy" for Western audiences, but that's why I love him ;D
I'm excited to see a Godzilla movie in the theater. That would be so awesome. I think as long as Rob Zombie stays away from it we probably stand a better chance at getting a good movie.
I know there wont be any any suitmation (which is disappointing ) but I hope there is at least one other monster in the movie. My biggest hope is that it will do good enough that Toho will want to reboot there series again and we can start getting some really awesome movies going. I really loved Godzilla Final Wars and would like to see more movies like that, with a heavy scifi tone and lots of action. Both human and monster. That movie has one of the best end battles.

He's not allowed to go see it even after it's finished and in theaters.

I can't believe you said you liked Final Wars...the worst Godzilla movie of all time as far as I'm concerned

What's so bad about it? (besides the Minilla subplot) It has giant monsters fighting and people fighting as opposed to every other Godzilla movie where there are giantmonsters fighting and people talking... and talking...and talking. Don't get me wrong. I love all Godzilla movies (even godzilla's revenge) but Final Wars is a thrill ride and a good finale. It's way better than Destroy all Monsters. That movie only has one good scene. And the damn dvd wont let you skip to it. Damn you ADV films!!!!

Because it's a souless, Michael Bay esque type of film. I think it's nearly an hour after the opening until we see Godzilla again. The fights are brief and bland. The human story is offensively bad and derivitive of American films. The monsters aren't iconic, they just appear and die, over and over again. The Minya sub plot comes out of left field, and goes no where. The writing is horrible, the dialogue sucks, and oh yeah...it's not fun, at all!
I'd almost rather watch the American Godzilla film than this film again...

Well the first one obviously buuuut that's a no-brainer and a non-fan answer. My personal favorite is Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster. Monster Zero is good too and Godzilla vs. The Thing/ Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) is pretty much held up as the best of the Godzilla films outside of the original. I LOVE King Kong vs. Godzilla (the Japanese version) because it's a satire, it's hilarious and also the final fight if a great tooth and claw fight.
Of the newer films Godzilla vs. Biollante (very hard to come by), Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah Monsters All Out Attack (GMK...I don't like it very much but it's one of the better made films, with decent human drama and a return of a truly evil Godzilla)
I will say that I am more of a Gamera fan than anything else...I like the good guys in my giant monsters...and there are plenty of other non-Godzilla, Japanese monster/ sci fi films that are amazing. If you have any questions...ask away, I might not have all the answers but I know people I can ask.
Thanks buddy..........I'm really hoping that some really cool modern Godzilla movie was made in Japan using today's technology. I was so damn excited for that Broderick until I sat through it. Piece of crap. I just hope SOMEDAY SOMEBODY will keep the spirit of the original (I want a EVIL 'Zilla) with some new effects.

Since it was titled Godzilla, I will not consider this any where near a good Godzilla Flick but if all else, it wasn't a 1/2 bad giant monster flick. Just call it something else.
I've always felt Godzilla vs Mothra (1992) was pretty good. I've always thought Invasion of the Astro Monster (1965) was really good. The worst: Son of Godzilla. It was terrible. Just a hodge podge of scenes cut up and put together. Also, Godzilla vs Megalon was horrible but the movie contains some of my favorite monsters in Megalon and Gigan.
The newer Gamera boots kicked some major ass. The director of the three also did GMK, all Monsters attack which I thought had pretty decent fight scenes.

Yeah, try GMK....you might like that one..
"Godzilla 2000" is probably my favorite modern Godzilla film. I like it for several reasons:
1. It had a U.S. theatrical run.
2. It was Toho's response to the horrible 1998 thing.
3. They gave a wink and a nod to Jon DeBont's "Twister," which was an extensive rewrite of his unproduced "Godzilla" screenplay, with the whole Godzilla Prediction Network plot.
Boy oh boy............I hope they can work G Force and the Super X into the new movie!!!!!! (just kidding ;). )

I agree! Godzilla should be destroying cities and emptying school buses full of children down his throat, all with 21st century effects!

Where would you slot Gorgo among the hierarchy of Godzilla flicks?
???
Question : There is one Japanese Kaiju movie I've waited years to see,' Yog - Monster From Space' (also known as Space Amoeba). Has this ever been released on DVD, or is there a place online to watch ?

That's what "Cloverfield" was supposed to be! I don't think Godzilla will be eating kids or people in general, because he's fueled by nukes. But, stomping fleeing masses, swatting jets, burning cities, etc, that's the Godzilla I believe we all wanna see.

Word
Really, Godzilla should be treated as a natural disaster. Not much you can do but try to get out of its way. Assuming the new film's set in the USA, there needs to be at least one major coastal city utterly wiped off the face of the Earth!
Make it Miami!

It should also have a nuke plant for Godzilla to feed at. I know Florida has one right on the coast, but it isn't in Miami. Think it's at Port St. Lucie.
Oh, what the heck! It's sci-fi, we'll give Miami a brand new nuke plant, and that'll be what draws Godzilla in.
Why not just nuke Miami, and send Godzilla to D.C. ?

I think even Godzilla has enough brains to stay out of D.C.!
I am really hoping they get this right, and so far it looks like they are on the right track. i heard the movie's release is being pushed back to 2014 so this will be the 60th anniversary film.
