Title: Movie Factoids
Post by: Sean on December 28, 2010, 10:23:45 PM
Just another thread about little curiosities surrounding movies.

John Landis came up with a film following an incident while shooting Kelly's Heroes (1970) in the countryside of Yugoslavia. While driving along a country road with a colleague, Landis encountered a gypsy funeral. The body was being buried in a massively deep grave, feet first, while wrapped in garlic, so as he would not rise from the dead.

The movie he would make was..... An American Werewolf in London.

I remember seeing an interview with Wes Craven in which he told a story from his childhood. Apparently one night he was in bed and heard a noise outside. When he looked out his bedroom window, which overlooked a nearby alleyway, he saw a creepy looking man standing in the shadows looking up at him. The man was wearing a striped jumper and a fedora hat. Frightened by the man he jumped back into bed and several minutes later looked back out to see that the man was still there and was now grinning at him, obviously getting a kick out of frightening the young Wes Craven. This stuck in the directors mind and was of course the inspiration for the creepy appearance of Freddy Krueger.

Very interesting!
But are you sure that the gypsy funeral anecdote is true?

I recently met a woman from Romania.  I said, "Oh you're a gypsy!"  She said not to say that.  Being called a gypsy is derogatory.  Just in case that happens to come up.

I just like that 'putting on earrings' (heaven forbid you leave the house without THOSE) was a higher priority than, say, 'removing industrial staples from forehead'....

Ehh... WAS she a gypsy-----or just a Romanian woman?   ;)  Maybe she was just Romanian... and NOT a gypsy?  And therefore was offended that you automatically assumed she was a gypsy just because she was Romanian?

Well, so far no whammy.  No, she doesn't look like that at all.  Maybe that's her mother-in-law?  I've got some evil in-laws.  I'd like to put the whammy on them.  Maybe something simple like having their cable go out on a regular basis.  No harm to anybody, but a big headache nonetheless.

My Romanian therapist?  She is so sweet!  I just love talking with her.  We always end up talking about food and clothes.  And I get to play with Silly Putty while I'm there!  I only have two more therapy sessions left.  I'll miss her.   :'(
