General Terry.
Are we going to have the Xmas gift exchange this year?.If so we best get started so everyone has time to get their package together and sent
off in time for it to reach the other person in time for Xmas.I have participated in this exchange for the last couple of years and think its great!
Was just thinking about this too. Great experience last year and looking forward to it as well
I'm in if we do it again.
Count me in.
But it's a hectic time, so the sooner I know, the better.
-Craig
Can someone fill me in on this??
Scatter - Basically, it's a Christmas gift exchange. All members who want to participate just make it known on the board. Then, our fearless leader, The General, picks names at random, pairs them up (at random) and those two make arrangements to send (usually monster related) goodies to each other. Not necessarily anything fancy or expensive - maybe something (or things) you already have laying around or whatever. Just some friendly Seasonal Cheer!
I'm in, btw.
Every year I mean to participate, and every year I end up not doing it. This year, you can count me in. :)

Exactly, Mr. O. Ghost - No need to go out & buy anything, other than shipping charges.

Cool........whoever get my name sends a terrific monster toy, and I'll dazzle them with a witty PM in return. Sure will make that "lump of coal" option seem like a giftapalooza.

And we exchanged gifts

Hey, Scat - some of the most treasured cards I own, are ones handmade by an aunt at a time when she was really strapped financially.
For me at least, this ain't about dollar value (as I think folks who have received gifts from me would attest!). It's about the thought, and the coolness.
Happy Holidays,
-Craig

Well, I'm sure I can manage something with a degree of coolness. Count me in.
I'm thinking about this one..................
It's all up to the General as to if we have it or not? So far I see he hasn't weighed in with his opinion yet.
Scatter,...knowing how difficult it is for me to write something worthwhile, I'd gladly take it. But I would like it Autographed. And you guessed it, I want in also!

Bless you, Boss & Brother.
OK, I'll do it!
Match me up with somebody that doesn't to get something really little. Low fund, ya know.
Just a reminder to everyone, that this is more of a swap from our collections, than an outright purchase. The General will post specifics.
Exactly OG - I'm going through some of my stuff/junk/collectibles right now!
If were going to do this then we have to get moving on it pronto.

I'm in as long as Sean doesn't send me any Dolphin crap, or OG any Raven droppings. ;D
Oops. How embarrassing. I completely spaced on this. My bad.
Here's the info all participating members should know and be aware of.
Everyone who is contributing to the Secret Santa pot here will have their name placed into a bowl. There will be another bowl with the exact same names placed in it. When the Xmas Grab Bag promotion comes to an official close (December 15, 2010 11:59 PM CST), I will then pull a name from each bowl. Those two names will correspond with the exchanging of gifts. Each selected member will send their gifts to one another. This will continue until all names have been pulled from both bowls. Not to worry - if we end up with an odd number of name tickets .. I will rectify that by adding additional gifts to the grab bag. Nobody will be left out. BUT you must contribute a gift to receive one. That is the requirement here!
Disclaimer warning! We here at UMA believe in the good faith of our members. Still, with this have been said, there may be people out there who may resemble Uncle Scrooge as opposed to St. Nick. The UMA cannot be held accountable or liable in anyway shape or form regarding this exchange. We will however respond, and take the necessary action that we the mods deem necessary to any complaints of outright deception and/or fraud. We urge all of you to enter into this promotion at your own risk. And oh yeah .. have fun with it too!
General Terry.
Don't you think Dec 15th is cutting it a bit short for getting the exchange to each other in time for Christmas?
I just sent something to a friend in Thailand and it took over 2 1/2 weeks to get to him.I no we have members here from other
countries so that why I'm asking?
Okay, let's have the cut off date be Monday December 6th 2010 11:59 pm CST. That should allow enough time for shipping in time for Christmas. Sound good?
Creepy Jeff is "All In" again this year!
Iam in as well!!!

Speaking of Miracle on 34th Street, just wrapping up that play in Oswego, IL The first play I've been in since high school. Tomorrow will be our sixth and final performance (all sold out - yay village of Oswego). I was selected to play Judge Henry X. Harper and have had a great time playing him. Did my best channeling of Gene Lockhart that I could muster. Sorry for the sidebar - back to Secret Santa buzz.
Very cool, Jeff!
At the last minute last week, I got to be a part of a presentation of another Christmas classic - Truman Capote's A CHRISTMAS MEMORY. Played several characters; the big hit was Queenie the mut!
Break one, Judge!
-Craig
Kudos and leg-breaks to both o' youse guys! Treading the boards and exercising the vocal talents in Christmas productions has got to be an especially heartwarming holly & ivy kind of experience. Good on you, my friends, good on you!
"Treading the boards and exercising the vocal talents in Christmas productions has got to be an especially heartwarming holly & ivy kind of experience."
Very, very much so, Robert.
This was first time with Capote's masterpiece, but as witnessed by Friend Max's site, and our monster brethren at CHFB, I've also been blessed to spend time with Mr. Dickens' again this year, too:

Rick, that is carved wook blocks prints, right? I am very impressed! Thank you! You are quite an artist.
They are carved blocks. I wanted to do a print of the Topstone masks, so I carved 16 little blocks with my favorite images. I teach high school and elementary art, and I always have little printmaking blocks left over. So I decided to put them to good use this year. The vampires are from the late 70's or early 80's I believe. I glad you enjoy them. Merry Christmas!

Hey, Sean. Did you get your package yet?
I actually got it a couple days ago and didn't realize it. My wife has been taking in all of the delivered packages and stowing them in the bedroom before our girls get home---and so I was looking for it when I already had it! I opened it yesterday and you did a WONDERFUL job filling (and I mean FILLING) a box with a whole assortment of treasures. For anyone reading this, I have a whole collection of Universal Monster thumb wrestlers and reading material and movies that look righ up my alley (no Scatter----not porn)... am I leaving anything out? It was AWESOME to open. I just smiled at it all.
I am sorry if I have been leaving you hanging, Nicole. I haven't spent a lot of time on the board over the last 6 weeks. We've had family illnesses (little girls) and my own bout with pneumonia (cripes, do NOT get that... this was my 1st time). Then this season in general with obligations and work (I have to work late to get projects done ahead of time so I can take time off around the holidays).... it's just been murder.
I put together a package for you and it's on it's way via UPS (no, not Unknown Primate-------but rather United Parcel)... I regret to say that it will NOT reach you before Christmas and I am truly sorry for that. You should expect it by Tuesday, they tell me. Let me know when you get it, OK? There's something in there that was difficult to part with (OK not really but I still liked the darned thing) as I kept it on top of my computer year-round much to the horror of co-workers. I hope you get some enjoyment out of the box'o stuff. I certainly am enjoying yours.
Thanks, Sean

Yes, I left out a 7" creature figure (glow in the dark) and some Halloween floating candles and some fake labels for bottles (which I will use this President's weekend, btw.)
Nicole did a GREAT job!
Sean, sorry to hear you and the girls have been sick buddy..........hope you're all well by the time Santa comes!!
Sean, I'm sorry to hear that the holidays have been so rough for you. I hope things get better soon. There is absolutely NO need to feel bad about mailing the package late. This gift exchange is just a fun thing. Family and responsibilities come first. I'm just happy to hear that you enjoyed what I sent. It was my first time doing Secret Santa, and I was so terrified that you wouldn't like it. lol
I can't wait to see what you sent me, especially this strange thing that you've been scaring your co-workers with (hmm... should I open it with caution?) I'll be sure to post again here when the package arrives. Merry Christmas!
Nicole, I can't even believe that this was your 1st Secret Santa here. You packed a goodie box like a pro. There was so much CLASSIC Universal Monster stuff mixed in there------it was the box I WISH I could pack.
About the thing in YOUR box... I was going to turn it on so the unwrap would be more interesting. It's nothing special, I just like the thing. I hope you find a good spot for it. The thing that USED to be on top of my computer at work before THIS thing (which I sent you) was so unnerving that they asked me to take it away. Be glad you're not getting THAT thing. 8)
BTW, thanks for the well-wishes.

In the early evening of December 23rd, UPS delivered a package to the Opera House, originating from the cave of The UMA's Most Unknown Primate. I could tell that Mark was greatly relieved to hear the good news of it's arrival. (http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac27/rtezai/UMA%20database/brundlefly.jpg)
I was blown away by the generosity of Mark and the numerous gifts therein, as well as the gesture to include our little man, Mykhail in his offering, but then was given a greater insight into the caring gentle giant whom we all call the Unknown Primate.
I also received a personalized piece of artwork, which was much more of a gift of himself through the time spent, thought and attention to detail present in his work.

But that was not the end of it. I also received a personalized music mix complete again with artwork.

What most amazed me was that the music revealed how very observant Mark is of his fellow UMA'ers, which was reflected in his choices. The first item on the playlist is the music associated with the film that I've expressed on the UMA as being the one which has most frightened and stayed with me since seeing it in the early 70s. The Tubular Bells entire LP by Mike Oldfield used in "The Exorcist". Ok...now let's say that was a coincidence....also included were a couple of songs which had bagpipes in it—less of a coincidence. My love of bagpipes was a short part of another stream which I think was hijacked for a short time, but one other item on the CD gave me shivers and pause for great thought..."Amazing Grace"—which I had stated was my favorite song on bagpipes. The version which he included was the absolute best I've ever heard and gave me goose bumps for the entire duration it played.
Now I'm not writing to embarrass anyone, but to share my revelation of what a kind, gentle and caring soul this man is, in a world which harps on the commercialization of Christmas. Mark has given me great pause to slow down and to think more about the people and things that I encounter and to enjoy and cherish all of my friendships old and new.
Thank you Most Unknown—perhaps now, not so much, but always the UP of the UMA.
Merry Christmas and a Happy, joyful and bountiful New Year.
OG
QuoteHey Chatty! I received your great package on the 18th and posted a note on this thread that day. I loved the Kong ornament and the Drac Pez dispenser. The candy...my two teenagers swooped down on it as soon as I opened the package. I got some of it though! Thanks again for a great gift package.
Best Wishes for the New Year!
Rick
Hi Rick!
I didn't see the other post. I'm glad you liked everything. I saw that King Kong and I knew he needed to go to your house. Happy New Year to you too!
Rob, for once, I'm without words...
Thanks & God Bless You.

I agree with you, UP! I think that it was one of the best use of prose that I have ever read! OG-that was truly wonderful to read.
UP - I know that we don't know each other very well (although you just live about one hour West of me!) but I see exactly what OG writes about is true!! You really take the time to understand other people. I especially enjoy the banter between us in posts! You REALLY get me!!! Putting my self in the place of Carson and yourself as McMahon was priceless. Mostly be cause my wife jokes and says that I am "the worlds greatest straight man"!!! I hope we can always have that type of relationship!!

Thanks again to my secret Santa! The FANTASIA dvd that was part of my batch of gifts made for some wonderful Christmas viewing with the family -- much appreciated!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I recently upgraded to the "Fantasia/Fantasia 2000" combo pack, and I thought you might enjoy my spare copy. It's hard to beat classic Disney ;)

Secret Santa provided a most impressive mix of unique items which are now proudly displayed in my office for all to see, thank you again and a happy holiday to all
Still NADDA on my end.
Don't even know if the package I mailed arrived.

I got a creepy cool packy from our mate "long live kong" way over in the UK!! 6 VERY cool VINTAGE Brit edition horror comics (5 DC titles such as "Unexpected", "Ghosts", and "Haunted House along with another called "Beyond The Grave"!), a HUGE assortment of "Monsters In my Pocket" figures which I've never seen, a full set of Universal Monster Trading Cards, and a bunch of Brit snacks which Nancy and Jordan got to before I could get home to protect my property!
Simply awesome Ben!! Thank you so much!!
PS, Ben sent along something called "Monster Munch"............think of it like pork rinds, but with beef instead of pork. Everybody hates it except Jordan and I......WE LOVE IT (but Nancy refers to it as "Ass Flavored" LOL!!)!! How can you go wrong with BEEF SNACKS?? ;D
Glad you liked em Scatter (and glad they made it there at last!!) by the looks of it we all did well with our gifts, can't wait for next year!
- how about a secret easter?? (only kidding)

Monster Munch are a national institution here!! Scatter - if your wife thought the beef one's tasted of Ass she won't want to try the pickled onion flavour, they make your eyes water!
Secret Santa was so fun this year!

I agree Chatty! Uncula hooked me up with some great stuff. Plus, what I always like best is I get to know a UMA member a bit better!
I still think this is the greatest group out there and that is mainly due to it's members!

I don't know what I was doing during Secret Santa sign-up, but I will be sure to join in next year!!! I check the UMA site every time I have 5 mins. of free time- or more, and I've been reading about the after party :) Sounds like a really cool shindig!

Same here Sean!
Opera Ghost's gift of the 12" Sideshow Bela The Gypsy figure (which I have yet to post a pic of) was the only MONSTER TOY I recieved this year! It's AWESOME! My daughter also gave me something monster-related (she always does, bless her), although not a toy - she bought The Blood Island Vacation 4 CD Box Set, featuring Eddie Romero's Ultra Drive-In Classic "Made in the Philipines" Monster Movies! I've been wanting this for quite awhile.
BTW, Bela is being displayed beside my Larry Talbot figure - Bela is staring at Larry & Larry is staring at The Wolf Man, who is slightly in front & to the side of both of them... aw heck, I'll just have to post some pics soon!
Thanks again, Rob, you haunted masked organist, you!

ROTFLMAO....I'm very glad it has found a good cave in which to dwell! I feel very Santa like this year, in a Tim Allen- SC2 kinda way, as I feel like I kinda nailed it in a few cases--I even gave a Rock-em Sock'em Robots to our COO--which knocked him for a loop. Unbeknownst to me, he's been looking for one for a number of years, it being a favorite of his when he was a kid.
As for me, I actually got a DVD set from a Discovery series on Demons etc, in addition to 5 Chaney Sr. films
He who Gets Slapped
The Monster
Mockery
The Unholy three (which I had on Laser with West of Zanzibar)
and Mr. Wu
Here's the pic as promised, of the very cool Bela the Gypsy figure (yep, had to take him out of his sealed box) that Opera Ghost sent me for Christmas. Bela looks at the man who destroyed him, as Larry Talbot stares worriedly at what he is to become.

Yes, yes, he does!
