Like the rest of us, I was shocked when I read Danny's decision to close down his museum and sell off a lot of his collection. . I've long considered his collection to be the benchmark of what a perfect monster kid collection should be. I'm very proud to be able to call Danny a friend and I was very honored to be able to add some of his pieces to my own collection. Included here are a number of personal holy grails I never thought I'd be lucky enough to own.
On Tuesday afternoon I went out to run a few errands and when I got back there were three boxes full of monster goodies waiting for me. This morning I snapped some quick pictures to share.
Thanks for looking;
Lee
Frankenstein Trick or Treat pail. To give you an idea of how much this one means to me, I carried this one around with me all evening on Tuesday and my wife had to take it away from me to get me to go to bed.

Renzi Monster Hot Rod which had been on display at the Ackermansion prior to Dr Shocker's House of Horror. Since buying this one I picked up another Renzi car on Ebay to borrow the wheels from...they're black instead of white but they're the right style.

Thing From Another World bust by Cathy Tharp...I've wanted one of these for a very long time...in terms of masks this one was at the top of my holy grail list

That is awesome! I hope he remembers the Monster Cafe as well! We will be open as long as I have breath in my body! http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home# (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#)!/pages/Saltillo-Mexico/Monster-Cafe-Saltillo/209432898451
I hope you remember us Dan! Your pieces would be treasured here! Unlike universal's cafe, I won't be closing my doors.
That's some great stuff you received! Thanks for sharing! If you want to get rid of that Frankenstein Bucket, I'll pay double the sticker price!

Very Cool!
The Pale and the Speakerhead are on my list for 2011, they will be mine. Congrats on the new acquisitions.

Jeez, "Caldor 64 cents"
I don't know that I ever noticed that and have owned it for MANY years!
Anyway, how wonderful that you are so happy with it all.
There is something that I could have never guessed would transpire during the sale and deconstruction of Dr. Shocker's House of Horror, which is the pure joy that I have been blessed with as these pieces have made so many other collectors happy.
I understand the HOLY GRAIL thing it's just great that I have led you and others to some of their own Grails.
It's a great experience for me.
gracebuster/Dr. Shocker- These posts are what I live for! The joy that us UMA members get from memories and monsters is so heartwarming. Ok, I'll stop now. Remember, I'm a Grandama so I can't help myself :) This is just so cool! Congratulations to all the "holy grail-ers".
Congratulations on some fabulous items! That halloween bucket is to die for!
That is a seriously amazing haul of goodies! Very nice!
great scores! Its fun to see the stuff people picked out as their favorites...I was honored to see the museum in it's final days....I still have the gallery of photos I took posted, here is the link for anyone who didn't see them yet:

I love seeing these treasures go from one owner to another new grateful owner, and how each new owner get the same jolt of joy from the toy. Think how cool it would be to have a magic time machine/camera that could show a little youtube movie of each of these monster toys over the course of its 30? 40? 50 year lifespan, at the moment each 8? 12? 30? 50 year old monster kid saw it for the first time, and the happiness it brought each of them.
It's amazing what .69 cents can buy.
That is a terrific haul. Did all that arrive in one box? Has anyone ever had a box like that arrive on their doorstep? You should have videotaped yourself opening it and pulling out the stuff one by one.
Thanks for the comments everyone...and again thank you very much Dan!
It's funny you mention videotaping the opening of the boxes, Ray. This haul was sent in three boxes and I actually planned to take pictures as I opened them. The only thing is once I started opening the excitement took over and I forgot. :-[ The whole experience of getting these boxes and opening them was just like Christmas morning 30 years ago (except there were no socks this time).
By way of update, much to my wife's amusement I am still carrying the Frankie bucket with me all over the house. ;D
Simply beautiful! I hope one day to own some vintage monster goodness.
Very nice. The Thing mask is simply amazing.
CONGRATS!!! Man I would cry if I had any of your GREAT Collection. And Thank You for sharing, and Thank You Dan for hooking him up. >:D
A very old post to be sure but I enjoyed the hell out of it! :) I wouldn't have found it if it weren't for a link on Pete's Monster Blog site that led me here. Such great items Lee. I didn't know Dan at this time but thanks to AHI Creature's post there are these wonderful pics of Dr. Shockers House of Horror while it still existed. I recognize some of the faces in these pictures of the wonderful people I've met at Monsterpalooza as well as Don-Con. Truly great stuff and a joy to look through!!

Wow, there are hours worth of photos there to study and such an amazing collection :o
I've probably got just over a handful of items looking through the pictures so can see I've got a very long way to go
Thanks for bringing this thread back, a real joy to see.
Ian
Those photos are high quality and I see a fantastic book opportunity here. Lee, I see another book to add to your list of projects, seriously! These photos are fantastic and a fitting tribute to Dr. Shockers collection that should never be forgotten! :)
Oh Yeah, I miss AHI CREATURE, he is a great photographer.
Looking back it makes me quite proud. Accumulating it all wasn't the best part. What was amazing was all of the people we brought together whenever the museum was open.
Such eclectic and talented monster fans.
Wonderful.
By the way, there is a very cool 3D section of photos of the museum on this DVD PLUS a million other monster memories.

it's still available as far as I know.
You should be proud! Amazing place for monster fans to congregate. I wish I had been around while the museum was still open. So many great collectables made even better by the great folks to enjoy and discuss it with.
