So after months of waiting and eventually giving up after HD-DVD bit the dust, I finally received my five free HD-DVD's in the mail from Toshiba. You see I bought my HD player back in November and at that time they were running a promotion for the free discs. I mailed my request and waited and finallly they arrived while I was in Vegas last week. Among the now extinct treasures is a film called Darkman.
I have not seen this movie since high school and now I watch it at this moment in brilliant high definition. This film is in no way a good film to the average watcher, however to a geeky film buff it is b-movie gold.
Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Schindler Liam Neeson and Francis Fargo McDormand it tells the tale of a scientist on the brink of discovering the secret of skin cloning. When a gangster played by Larry Dr. Giggles Drake decided to incinerate his lab with him inside, he becomes Darkman. A superhero burn victim bent on revenge, he can assume any identity. Using his recovered lab equipment he produces masks to wear that allow him to become anyone. The only catch is that his masks only last 99 minutes in daylight. It is only in the veil of darkness that he can truly thrive...hence darkman....ahh get it!!!
This movie is pure cheesy glee!!!
It features Evil Dead like camera work from pre-studio spider-dude director Raimi and a script that is a b-movie wet dream.

And a nifty cameo by EVIL DEAD alum Bruce Campbell!
I just loved this movie...........great review!!!!!
It was a bit of a stretch that the guy inventing the artificial skin suddenly becomes the guy who NEEDS it, but that's what B-movies are for. My only regret is that a guy with his stylish dress code and wicked good looks isn't singing in an opera house somewhere.
When Liam snaps the guys fingers at the carnival I laughed really hard! A classic! Did anyone try watching part 2? God was that bad. I couldn't make it to part 3.
I don't remember 2, but I have seen 3. It's pretty bad, but you can't watch it for the story.
I found it very fitting that there was a recent Darkman / Army of Darkness comicbook crossover.
