Perhaps move this into general area but show pics of ANYthing you own that is a blow mold piece. From light up scary pumpkins to a Flinstones car. Love this and should have kept what I had and set $$ aside for this.
Won this recently and one of the very few Blow Molds I still own.

Wonder why there weren't more Monster Blow Mold Yard Lights back during the 60s Monster Craze? Or even in the 70s? Today we have the Lugosi Dracula and a cartoonish Drac and Frank, but where are the Wolfman, Mummy, Creature, etc. I 'd kill for a 4 ft. lighted Glenn Strange on my front lawn!! I truly believe these would sell during the Halloween season at Target, WalMart, Kmart, etc.

I love this stuff- the colors are so beautiful! I'm not sure if the yard decorations I have are blowmolds by definition. I have the light up yard ghosts from the 90s and a cartoonish Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster from about 8 years ago. Maybe you guys have them as well, but I keep referring to them as blowmolds. Those things you got from the Zoo or Museum are actually wax pressings. They stunk like hell when you put your several quarters in and often burnt your hands if you did not wait a minute after release. Still VERY cool. I had a few myself and still wish I had em.

Lester, I don't remember what I paid for it, but less than $50. It's dated 1986, so not that old.
Dr Madd, those are really cool. I love the Mold-A-Rama machine stuff. That stuff is a little different, because it's made of wax and isn't durable like the candy buckets and toys, but very very cool stuff.
I'd like to dispel the myth that these are wax. They are polyethylene. Soft especially when warm and fragile to be sure, but not wax.
There is a mold for a Frankenstein bust and a full figure.

Thanks for the clarification. I had several of these as a kid and some of the machines even had a warning about hot wax. Now that I think about it they didn't feel like wax.

After seeing those awesome old Halloween blow mold light up guys I vivdly remember having several of them in our house as a kid. So I was at my parents over the Halloween wekend and asked my Mom if she still had them and lo and behold there was one left-the scarecrow pumpkin head. He long ago lost his lightbulb and cord, but I don't mind. He now resides on my shelves next to a smaller blowmold ghost I bought this year , the Sideshow Lugosi Dracula and Wolfman and the similar sized Vincent Price from the Raven figures.

I wish my adult children would take interest in the cool treasures that I might possbly have in a closet! That's pretty cool, that your Mom would have that awesome scarecrow. It's not easy being the keeper of the loot, but I keep waiting for the day when I can impress one of my offspring :)
I was surprised my parents still had any of these guys as I remember them from when I was very very little which goes back to about 1975 because it was before I started kindergarten which was 76, and we used them until I was probably 13 or 14, which was the mid 80s! These guys were a huge part of my childhood Halloween memories and the last survivor has an honored place in my year round collection now. Maybe someday your adult children will get nostalgic about their childhoods and want some of those treasures you have Charp. I hadn't thought about these Halloween guys in decades, so you never know.

Damn.sorry to hear that. It's those little things that can mean a lot just because of memory/history.
Years ago when I was 5 I won a Tinykins Gheppto at a carnival. It meant a LOT to me since the memory of me and mom at the carnival was crystal clear. It disappeared about 10 years ago into the void. :o

One question.. Where did you get the Vincent price figure from the Raven?
I bought the Vincent Price Raven figure on ebay back in the early 2000s. Don't remember how much I paid for him though.
Yesterday my parents came over for a visit and my Mom surprised me with another of the old Empire Halloween light ups we used to have! She said she is 99% sure that we do not have any other ones left (we used to have the black cat with the big pumpkin on its back and the witch carrying the huge pumpkin as well), but I am thrilled to have even one more of these guys from my childhood as I thought they were long gone! Now both of these Empire Halloween guys have honored places in my year round collection!

You bet. I won't even give the $400 for the bucket and that's less than current market value for a nice one. I pick my battles and just rule out some of that stuff. Of course I might fall into a lot of money later, or find them at an incredible bargain. I would like to have them, just not at those prices in my current situation. Never say never.

No, I'd spend that on several masks or figures before a single pencil sharpner vintage or not in my present financial situation.

I wouldn't give 400 bucks for many single items, maybe a rare playset (Hamilton's Invaders/VTTBOTS) or something else really important to me like a mid-grade FM #1 (if I didn't already have one). The idea is to buy several nice collectibles for that sum instead of one pencil sharpener or candy bucket. If I'd had those items during kidhood they would mean much more to me (like say a Haunted Hulk does). It just boils down to personal preference. To each his own.

Oh yeah, those items I'd pay up for! Anything I loved as a kid, or anything I think is really cool from that same time era even if I wasn't aware of it as a kid.

This is a key factor. Something I had as a kid is going to have a sentimental value to me that vintage items I never owned don't. But still, when it comes to spending $400 it would have to be something a whole lot more substantial than a pencil sharpener or candy bucket at least at this time in my life.
Quote from: Gory Glenn on October 08, 2015, 10:15:01 AM

Yep, hookers & booze.
It just seems more saavy to me (esp. investment-wise, if I dare bring that subject up) to spend $400 for a Strange Head Bucket (which is the same head as a $2500+ head speaker) than say "$400 is too much to spend", yet be willing to readily spend the same amount on something brand new, on an item with no long term track record.
Maybe we're not really trying to be savvy or considering the investment value. Maybe we actually like the piece enough to plunk down four c-notes. I can't think of many modern things that are going for $400 right now. They may be customs that are either one-of-a-kinds or close to it. I don't think that most of us are thinking about "track records". For the record, I really like that Clinton Frankenbucket. It just doesn't mean as much to me since I never owned one as a kid. The customs (like Distinctive Dummies) are bought purely for the incredible quality and uniqueness of the character choices. I mean, who else is doing fine quality figures based on Vincent Price or Hammer Films characters?
I buy what I like, primarily, but it's unwise to ignore resale value completely. If I were dropping moolah solely for investment I would spend $400 on the right Distinctive Dummies figures instead of going vintage. Those vintage pieces will continue to crawl ever upward, but in the short term the spurts of increase shown by certain DD figures far outstrip anything old. I don't see the DD figs dropping in value over time either because the production runs were minuscule.
Currently, I don't have the disposable income to invest. My collection is my only focus now. What I'm willing to pay for a certain piece does take into account resale value, though, because you never know what might happen in future. This mindset is another good reason for being a display-in-package collector. Ultimately, the most important thing is to buy what makes you happy.
Thankfully, most of my "collecting" is done. Now it is either concentrate on getting one specific item, or buy the occasional Trick Or Treat Kong mask.

...I forgot my Sinclair blowmold dino bank in the back of this pic:
And, the ones lined up toward the back are Mold-A-Rama Sinclair Dinoland pieces from the World's Fair Sinclair exhibit in the'60s. MARs may be considered by most a different category, but they're still blowmolds.
Hey Bob!!! Let me know if you want me to chime in, otherwise, I'll let it go and just sit back and read the posts. 400 bucks for a Frankenstein sharpener, or a bucket head, if anybody thinks it's too much, well, if YOU had one for sale, how much would YOU ask for it??
Honestly, I would put a bucket or sharpener on ebay at $9.99 start auction and let 'er go, if I were selling one (but I'd probably keep it!). I have always done well enough- many times better than I expected, doing it that way.
The "Buy-It-Now-For-Retail-And-A-Half" method never seems to work well from what I see, but I have never tried it. It seems to hinder the sale, at least my observation.
Right on! Ebay is supposed to be an auction market.
8)
Couldn't agree more. Bob, question was put mainly to the others on this post who still think they are too much money. Starting a rare, or popular item (such as a bucket head-popular, but a few still exist) at a low price generates a bit of excitement. The "buy-it-now" option is a bit of a let-down usually, unless it's something you are really looking for. Even though I've been blasted for my point of view on pricing with these items, I've lost quite a few times on e-bay with some auctions of monster items where someone was willing to pay a lot more. As I mentioned in an earlier post somewhere else, collecting monsters is a "general" theme, vintage for some, modern for others, depending on what a person is willing, or can spend. My point of view (as well as yours too,Bob) is that vintage is "our" way of thinking, we're die-hard with this, although it's not to say that if something came along newer that was really neat, we'd probably buy it. But honestly, I'll put the question out there again, if someone thinks that a Frankenstein pencil sharpener or a bucket head is too much money at 400 dollars, if they were selling one, how much would they be willing to sell it for? I'm pretty sure they would be looking for the same money, or more.
I dislike auctions and strongly prefer the buy it now option. But I am a buyer not a seller, from their point of view an auction seems better as Bob pointed out. I don't like bidding or the time commitment it takes to snipe others last minute, I want the sure thing.
I have been buying vintage Halloween Blow molds like crazy on Evilbay, and many that were long run auctions I passed up and even bought the same item on some buy it nows for slightly more than the auctions on the others started at or in some cases ended at. When I want something I want it to be a sure thing without throwing a ridiculous auction bid at it to be sure
Hi Ravenloft. Love those Halloween blow-molds also!!! Good point with you. Some people really do like the "buy-it-now" option, rather than going through the time and "anxiety" of bidding, many times, it probably works better.

I wouldn't sell the bucket for any less than $600 (though, I wouldn't pay anywhere near that much to own one).
Thanks Mord. Good honest answer.

I'd list it in the eBay auction with a $9.99 starting bid, as Bob said, and expect it to sell for around $400-$500. If I didn't need the money I'd keep it in my collection. There's no doubt the Glenn Strange Candy Bucket is worth that because that's what collectors are willing to pay. I'm just not willing to pay that currently. If I had a better financial situation I would already own one, and wouldn't mind paying the 400 bucks to do so. Just not today.

I've been collecting so long, and have reached 98% of my "ultimate collecting goals", I am happy with what I have. Sure, I still buy stuff, new stuff too, and am always creating stuff, artistically, besides. I am a point in my life where I can just sit back if I want to and be happy with what is here, and that's a nice place to be.
That is indeed a nice place to be. I'm not quite there yet. While I capable of sitting back and basking in what I have, over time I'm not happy if I haven't made "progress" in my various collecting avenues.

I love orange pumpkin glow and bedsheet ghosts.

It would be interesting to know their tales of being proudly displayed or carried from door to door by wild-eyed, strangely attired Halloween celebrant in the grasp of candy mania.
And then callously discarded and forgotten by those selfsame youngsters....

I think they're great myself! I especially like the totem pole!
Local yard sales and Goodwills in this area never seem to have anything of interest like that. The one exception I recall was a yard sale I passed on the way to work a few summers ago. They were setting up, and had what looked to be about 4 large Halloween blow molds. I desperately wanted to stop, but I would have been late to work. I went back on my lunch break, and they were all gone. Sigh.

I like that one. It is more elongated and with a longer stem than what you usually see.
My wife once found a discarded Fisher Price Little People castle, set out for the trash up the street from my Dad's house. It didn't have any of the figures, but that castle has provided untold hours of play to both our kids, and is still in my daughter's room today.

The weirdass skull club toward the front is a plastic blow mold of unknown origin. If anyone knows what it is then be a good chap and clue us in please.

I purchased it from an eBay seller a few months ago and he didn't know anything about it either. It reminds me of a monster themed bat and ball set made in blow mold plastic (I had a similar Flintstones themed set as a kid), but that's just a guess. Anyone know anything about it?

I bought the same type of items as the ones posted above for $100 about 3 weeks ago.

The listing and pictures for the $300 set was much better. What things sell for has a lot to do with how they're presented.
Received this Blow Mold Hanging Skull from an eBay seller for a good price. Skull is around 5" tall and the black hair hangs down around 11"-12".

Not mine, but I was close to pulling the trigger. All 3 Tico Toys Blow Mold Devil Heads used for the Peerless Spook O Lights string lights set from the '60s: https://www.ebay.com/itm/176759753786

It was listed for BIN $175 OBO with free shipping. It doesn't say "best offer accepted" so the buyer probably just grabbed them at the listed price fearing someone else getting them immediately. This was a really good deal even at listed price.
I don't know how difficult it would be to find the cord and bulbs to complete this, but the blow mold devil heads are the best part of this by far. I don't even plug in old blow molds because the wiring is old. It would probably be safe, but I just like to display them unlit. The pictures I've seen of the string lights with cord/bulbs usually have the heads setting askew due to the weight of the cord so just displaying the heads would probably be the best way unless you could actually find the original packaging (tough!).

I don't light them up often, so I just left the little "Try Me" buttons on them. Why buy batteries if you don't need to?
