Hi everyone. It's that time of year again where we put out the tip jar. Your generous donation assists us with the operational costs of running this forum. But that's not the only thing it will do. It also allows us to improve the UMA with new software upgrades and the like. The UMA is about to make such an upgrade soon. We have many things in store for the future of UMA.
If this forum has brought you some form of enjoyment throughout the years, won't you please consider making a donation today? No amount is too small!
The UMA is eternally grateful for your support! Long live the UMA!
Best, Terry Ingram (The General of the UMA)

Please remind us where to send a payment besides Paypal. I don't do it. Keep meaning to send one out but... well you know. :-[
I was also going to ask if there was an address we could just send $ to, so that we don't have to involve paypal :)
PM's sent.
Could I please also have the address?
I would like to thank each and everyone of you who graciously donated during this month's pledge drive. The UMA truly appreciates your support! I promise to put your donations to good use! God bless all of you!
The UMA will be changing it's appearance as well as adding new user functions in the coming weeks. This will all be part of the new software upgrade of which I hope to have installed no later than Thanksgiving.
Again, thank you all for your continued support of the UMA! Over 3,500 members and growing, yet still an army of one! Salute!
Please click the DONATE button on the home page, and give whatever amount you'd like, to keep the UMA going. Thank you! :)

Okey-Dokey.
Have you guys thought about doing a UMA Fan Club to inspire more donations? You could offer a cheap Membership Card, and a cheap Pinback Button (at least 2", the 1" ones are lame), and note on members UMA names "Fan Club Member" when they post. This stuff wouldn't cost much and could be offered with a donation of at least $20. Most of us are collectors so considering it's a good cause anyway it would inspire more funds to enter the UMA coffers.

We had a bunch of that stuff in the past. Don't know if there's still enough people around, anymore? Anyway, it don't take much to run this place. If everybody gave a dollar every other month it would be more than enough.
Just tossed in a few bucks to help out. I think a fan club might be fun.

3500 members X $6.00 = $21,000.00 a year.
It costs that much?

Must be the distant past. I started posting on UMA about 9 years ago and there hasn't been anything like a fan club since then. Maybe it's time to try it again. Old UMA pinback buttons turn up on eBay about as often as a Haunted Hulk does and they sell for pretty good money. The fan interest is there. UMA is slowly fading due to complacency. A little effort and imagination could turn things around, or at least keep the thing going awhile longer.
I got my only UMA item off eBay:

To encourage donations I'd suggest making sure that contributor patches appear beside or under members' names or avatars.

Is there a place, like the ones that make mugs with your art on it, that makes pinback buttons?

Get a Bade-A-Minit press and make your own. It will last for years.

I was thinking about something more like this - for smaller runs of badges.

While on UMA I keep getting 503 Service Errors that may be capacity problems. I have to keep reloading the same page. Anyone else having these issues?

It's been doing that all day.

That's much better. You also need the paper punch and more buttons if you make more than 50 buttons.

Realistically, how many active members do we have - and how many buttons would you anticipate needing in any given year?

Less than 50?
What kind of a button would anybody want? This UMA logo?
http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/ (http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/)
Ah! It says 50 button "parts", meaning "halves" (or, 25 buttons).
I'd be willing to throw a few more bucks in to have a badge or some such made for members. A few years ago I met up with several other devote Kirby fans at a convention. We identified each other because we all wore our old MMMS pins. Just food for thought-

Just donated. Keep up the great work guys!!!
The old monster mags usually had a 3 piece membership package. A button, a members card and a certificate. The last two things would be easy enough to print up.

Nice!
I thought I had a couple of old UMA buttons from eBay but when I checked they're Monster Bash buttons, which don't turn up often either.
I did a search for Universal Monster Army on eBay and nothing came up. I couldn't even find any UMA swag when I searched Google Images. There just isn't much (any?) of that stuff available on the secondary market currently.
Of course anyone could have UMA pinback buttons made but they wouldn't mean a lot unless they were tied to UMA membership and the donation. If UMA does new pinback buttons hopefully they will state "Donating Member" or something to that effect to give the button proper significance. Ideally the fan club would include a cheap membership card that could be hand numbered. And, membership in the fan club would carry the "Donator" title with the member's UMA name for posts. We grew up with this stuff- Creepy Fan Club, FM Fan Club, etc. I'm currently a member of The Creeps Fan Club (really nice large pinback button, numbered membership card, and poster, for $20). I know UMA is pretty slow these days but I believe enough people would donate $20 for cool fan club swag to make a difference. Most of us are collectors ::). I know we wouldn't get a poster, but the large pinback and hand numbered membership card should be easily doable. I'd donate another $20 for that stuff.
Something I forgot about. Any pins, cards, etc. won't be able to use any Universal copyrighted imagery (i.e., no monsters).

I expected as much.
Maybe just go with the UMA logo...
The UMA logo would probably be more appropriate anyway for this purpose.
Maybe squeeze in a small illo of a generic monster under the UMA logo?
...then add the words "FAN CLUB" at the bottom of the button. Could add the words "DONATING MEMBER" at the top above the logo.
Just brainstorming here. Maybe other members will make more suggestions.
Of course, all the old UM movie posters are PD.
Also, we have Classic Monster Kid Imagery like the illos for the Topstone masks.

The heads of Shock Monster, Vampire Girl, and Mummy, would look cool under that UMA logo. It would have to be a big button, hopefully 3" or so to accommodate all that monster coolness. UMA should go big! Zombie Cool
I second horrorhunter's nomination of Shock Monster.

Stills should be wide open. Everybody on eBay copies them all over the place.

Who wants to hire a copyright attorney to find out?
Why not have a contest and let a member design something original? Folks could vote on the favorite entry. Might be fun to see what talented people are lurking about👀

Hey guys, the link on the first page of this topic now comes up with an error and I don't see any where else now to donate. Let us know when and how we can do that going forward. Thanks!

Cool. You're welcome.
