I would like to know some movies that you watch around halloween time, and gives you that halloween feeling.
One for me is obvioulsy HALLOWEEN!!! I love this series, i watch all them around halloween time.
Mad Monster Party? every year on the 31st~ ;D
but I usually marathon Monster flicks in September & October,
starting with the silents & working up~
Any one of the various versions of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, from Disney's The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad to Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.
Mad Monster Party.
The OLD TV Specials were what meant Halloween to me: A Disney Halloween, Disney's Halloween Treat, The Night Dracula Saved the World (The Halloween that Almost Wasn't)... just to name a few. I definitely watch Mad Monster Party and various others as well, but the TV specials are what really remind me of the best season of the year. I hope my VHS tapes don't break, as this stuff will never be seen again.
The animated special of Bradbury's "The Halloween Tree".

what he said, except for Burton's Sleepy Hollow...
I also like watching "It's the Great Pumpkin,Charlie Brown!!"
Many movies, some of my favorites:
- Dracula (1931) I've written before about my favorite Halloween memory as a kid. Dracula will always mean Halloween to me.
- Sleepy Hollow and other variations as Mike Scott stated.
- 'Salem's Lot. I always watch this in October. I'm jonesing to watch it now.
- Frankenstein and any of the Universal classics.
- Halloween (1978), Halloween III Season of the Witch
- The Blair Witch Project
- Any good Horror Host Halloween special
and many more that are escaping me at the moment...
-
Agreed completely with all of these. You can't possibly go wrong with the Classic Monsters.
Also, recommend A&C meet Frankenstein as it has the big three, and has a mascarade in it was well! Watched it this weekend(will post more about this on the Drive In thread)
Also, Trick or Treat, AND Terror Train
OG
Not a movie but really perfect for getting in the mood for Halloween are the two episodes of Tales from the Darkside that deal with the holiday. The very first episode of the series titled Trick or Treat and a later episode Halloween Candy are very well done and deal with miserly old men who get their just desserts on Halloween night.

THAT reminds me, ABC FAMILY usually runs Halloween themed shows/ films during entire month of October. Also AMC and TCM Start to increase their offerings about the middle of the month too.
Disney's Sleepy Hollow
The Great Pumpkin
Any Universal Monster Movie( Dracula ,Frankenstein ect)
nIGHT OF THE lIVING dEAD
Halloween ( Carpenter)
Trick R Treat

No the one that came out last year with "Sam". It is a Halloween themed anthology with stories that loosely tie into each other. One of the best new Halloween movies in recent years.

i've only seen tim burton's sleepy hollow. Is the rest of the movies you listed any good?
For some odd reason, the old universal monster films do not give me the halloween feeling for some reason. ???

For me, Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman and Phantom do, but the Mummy and 50s movies (even Creature) don't.
Not a horror movie, but Arsenic and Old Lace is fun on halloween. Ditto House on Haunted Hill.

I'm with you Mike........being a New England boy myself, I never tire of Sleepy Hollow and always am excited to find a new incarnation to scare up memories of Halloweens past.

The only other one I mentioned was the Disney, which is good, especially if you saw it as a kid. I also remember an '80s TV movie, with Jeff Goldblum as
Icabod, that was very good. Not sure if it's on home video, though?

It's on VHS, but not on DVD...at least I havent found it yet, seen once when I was younger, back when TV treated you right on HALLOWEEN....
Growing up the tv stations would show the Universal monster movies in the Fall then air the Hammer horrors over the winter so I always thing of Universal movies for Halloween. Now I start my Halloween movie watching with two comedies: HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS which takes place on Halloween, and ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. Then Charlie BRown and Garfield Halloween specials. I grew up before the Halloween, Nightmare etc slasher films so they don't even enter onto the playlist for me. It's got to be the oldies.
I record Halloween specials every year and re watch them because they are entertaining year after year, but outside of that i bought a DVD a few years ago called 'Halloween Magic', it has Haunted House Sound Effects as well images of Jack O'Lanterns, flying bats, masks and creatures - most images are of things available for retail at companies like Fright Catalog.
It is kind of like those 'Yule Log' disks, about 25 minuets latter it re starts automatically, it is not to watch as much as to have running in the background for atmosphere, if you want a film with a story they do provide a second feature that contains the original 'House On Haunted Hill' with Vincent Price gratis.
The Woman Who Came Back
I Walked With a Zombie
Night Monster
Anything scary with Vincent Price
i know they aren't movies but i always love to see the halloween themed episodes of older sitcoms, like roseanne, home improvement, family matters, etc.
'Roseanne' and 'Home Improvement' did some terrific stuff - but don't forget 'Beavis and Butt-Head : Bunghollio, Lord Of The Harvest'.
I just remembered one which is a veritable classic
"Spaced Invaders"....it plays off the Orson Welles Broadcoast. I love this film!

I never have heard the broadcast, and would love to...I need to check the local library, and see if they have a copy...
I know back in the day, I was able to check out A&C radio programs there...

There is a terrific DVD of the George Pal 'War Of The Worlds' i would recommend highly - on one commentary Anne Robinson tells about the production in delightfull, extreme detail, her co star Gene Barry keeps talking about what a good looking fellow he used to be (no vanity there, huh folks?), but it has the entire CBS Mercury Theater 'War Of The Worlds radio broadcast.
