Title: It! ain't gonna happen?!?!
Post by: GAKENSTEIN on September 10, 2010, 10:05:58 PM
According to the Sideshow Wholesale Newsletter, the IT! The Terror From Beyond Space figure is not going to be made.  Ditto for the Electric Tiki Groovy Ghoulies Frankie statue.   >:(

Yes--It's true about IT. Which sucks. It was the only definite buy for me. I am probably not going to buy the others out of a slight personal protest. ;)

This kind of thing is liable to keep happening. Cost of manufacturing continues to skyrocket in China, with many factories becoming union shops. Add to that retail sales being down, and it's not hard to understand why producers are being cautious. One bad decession could ruin their companies. My understanding was that there weren't enough preorders to warrant sending this project to production. Many people aren't preordering anymore, but waiting for a "better deal" after the product has been available for awhile and is discounted. I can understand that, I do the same thing. With smaller companies doing obscure characters they have to have some assurance that they wont be stuck with 75% of their inventory. They wont be able to afford to make anything else. If a human figure gets over produced bodies and maybe even clothes and accessories can be repurposed so that the units are not a total lost. That wouldn't happen with It!. Executive Replicas got less than 10 total preorders for the Uncle Sam Haim figure. Should they have produced 500 of those to fill those few preorders? While I understand the frustration of a favorite figure not making it to production, realize that Paul and the other people involved are even more upset about it. A lot of time and money went into obtaining a license and having prototypes made. Now it's impossible for them to recover any of those funds. If people want to see more obscure characters being produced you should support the companies willing to do them in any way that you can. Bad mouthing them for delays in production or canceling figures does not help the situation. Companies like Enterbay, Hot Toys and Sideshow will continue to churn out big franchise figures like Star Wars, LOTR, and Terminator. There is not enough money in it for them to do It!, Horror of Party Beach, Zacherley, or anything else of this nature. So if you want to see the kinds of characters Amok Time and Executive Replicas produce continue to be made, show some support. Who knows, when things turn back around It! may make it out after all.

I hope you are right about it.  I had supported Amok Time with all of the earlier offerings. Saucer men, Teenage Frank and Werewolf, Sun Demon, etc. etc. But IT was the one I wanted.  I pre-ordered both versions in hopes to see it get done. How many orders were in for IT before they decided it was a no-go?

IT! looks to be D.B.A. (Dead Before Arrival)

The 22" Boris the Monster Frankenstein figure is now scheduled for September 2011.

Here is a link to the Amok Time product update page:

All the figures you mentioned were sold by Amok Time, but were actually manufactured by BFFF. I'm sure they appreciate your support regardless. I know very little about how and why decessions are made. If you reread the link in the previous post you will see that they still plan to make Blacula, but they are on the fence about the Red Death Vincent Price and 12 inch Bub. It cost nothing to preorder a figure on the Amok Time site. Your card isn't charged until they have the product in hand and are ready to ship. If anyone is genuinly interested in these figures and hasn't made a preorder, now may be the time to do it. I'm guessing that any manufacturer would want some assurance they could sell enough units of a product to make production cost back. They would also hope to make enough over the top of that to pay some bills and fund the next production run. I'm not sure what the magic number or percentage is that gets a production greenlighted. If I had to guess it could be anywhere between 50% and 80% of the total production run "presold". Nobody wants a warehouse full of unsold product. The It! was a really nice looking piece. If things turn around and enough interest is shown who knows what could happen. I know Executive Replicas is exploring some options to produce figures in smaller numbers. I would keep an eye on the Amok Time site as well as the Executive Replicas pages on Facebook and Twitter. We are reworking a few older prototypes and sculpting some new ones that will be on display at the New York Comic Con in  a few weeks. This will include the Forrest Ackerman figure that we did the head for. This was debuted at the Famous Monsters convention several weeks ago

What? Bah!!! I just got my Groovie Goolies Wolfie maquette today. If no set, I's'a gonna be ticked.
Actually that's weird because Diamond Comics show Frankie  'green' which normally means he's in-stock to order....  hmm.... better put some feelers out.

I'm pretty sure all 3 of the Amok Time Groovie Ghoulies have already been made? The Sideshow newsletter mentioned that the Electric Tiki groovie ghouies statue was canceled.
