Title: Naming of the Book Poll
Post by: Dr.Teufel Geist on August 11, 2010, 11:05:46 PM
Okay, so a friend and I have been working on a fictional book together for the last few months, and we should be wrapping it up,by the end of this year.
We decided to make a Trilogy of these two brothers who are forced into becoming Vampire Slayers..
Along the way, they encounter all types of Supernatural and Fantasy creatures..
It's set in the Fantasy Dark Ages..
He(co-writer) asked me tonight about the name of the first book, and he thru in his 2 cents and I thru my hat in the ring as well..
and neither of us could agree on the title...
What you see above are the two possible titles, and I wont say which belongs to me or him...
I would like yer honest opinion/vote for which Title grabs you the best...
Thanks,
Doc.

I chose the 1st title, purely because there are a lot of books/movies etc with 'rise of the....' in the title and the 1st one sounds a little different. Best of look with the project Doc!!!

Now that I have you under my White Zombie-like spell, the world will tremble beneath the iron fist of my ultimate rule! MuHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

That, or I'll just make you buy me an IN-N-Out burger with fries and a chocolate shake when I finally get back to L.A.

Either one is good with me.

2 brothers fighting vampires?

Isn't that 'Lost Boys'? ;D

I picked Day & Night:  Hunters Rise.  Not sure why.  WHEN would vampire hunters rise?  At night to face them, or in the day to search for them mid-slumber?

How about Frog Brothers, Inc.? ;)

First of all-  Wow!  I've never talked to an author before, this is pretty cool! Secondly- I picked Night and Day because I like longer titles, they give you more info when you are trying to judge a book by it's cover  :)   I can hardly wait til it's on the market. It sounds like something the whole AuClair gang will enjoy reading!

Actually Sean, Hunter is the last name of the brothers in the book...and they start off hunting the Vampire clan that killed their Father & Mother, and kidnapped their baby sister.
Eventually, they become more than Vampire Slayers, fighting other Creatures,like..Werewolves,Zombies,Undead Dragons,Assassins,etc....

Charp13- nothing is published yet...so hold off on the Author status :)

Thanks to all who has voted and for the support..

Would an undead Dragon be able to produce fire? And if so would you be able to see the flames swirling in it's guts through the decaying ribcage? Or would it attempt to breath fire and instead spew out gallons of rotten, putrefying slime, and would that slime turn whoever it engulfs into one of the undead?

Perhaps with the consumption of brimstone, but does raise the question of flamability of the creatures body

The kind my Characters fought in D&D, they had an Energy(Life) Drain type of toxic black breath....

SPOILER ALERT!!!!Also the new and improved Badguy is a Hybrid Vampire/Necro Dragon.

Hey Doc, the villagers in town could have their own little "urban" legend type poem about the Hunter's: "Be it day & night or night & day, the Hunter boys will stake their prey." Ha,ha...I know, I know, don't quit my day job!  I chose option #1.  Shorter title, easier to remember, easier to sub-title future installments.   Good luck doc, and let us know how the progress goes!

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!! DONT READ,UNLESS YOU REALLY WANT TO...

The second book will take place 2,000 years later...making the year 2110..
We been talking, and Ben wants to do a modern version...so, I have been working on how the brothers
will be able to be around 2,000 years later...and came up with some good ideas...
But, that's all I will say for now.  ;D

That's correct..this will be a Hunters trilogy....Book 2 is being prepared with lots of discussion and notes, and how far we want to expand it...The Title has been chosen and agreed upon, this second book will definitely be a MALE THRILL RIDE with lots of ACTION/FIGHTING.

the Third book will go back to the beginning of where it all started....

Alright..playtime is over for me, back to work...

I hit a snag in the book, decided to change of the characters, which to me was becoming too powerful(my fault, I wrote it that way)
So I did a huge 180 and re-wrote the character again, so I had to dump quite a few pages into the trash...
which is okay, cause I hammered out the character's new speciality...but, I need to go finish it up now...
I left off in a huge fight(had to take a break)...

yes it can...cause I would like to do each fight scene, but there is so many(fighters vs the monster) right now, so I had to kinda just have
two fight scenes, then end with the "after the dust settled" type of thing..

So I just wrapped up the Samurai vs Werewolf fight...
I still have a little catching up to do, before I get back to the story(that we are working on right now)

But, the creative juices are flowing once again, and I am having a wonderful time writing this new Speciality of the character..

And it really helps that I played D&D back in the day to, because several of my D&D Characters have cameos in the book.
What's hard is, trying not to use stuff that has been done too much...I am always telling my co-writer, to think outta the box.  8)
He is the true master storyteller with his details...I am the guy with lots of ideas swarming in my mind, and he helps me to put it in words
that will grab the reader and make them not want to put the book down.

We are still shooting for the end of the year as the deadline(so to speak) of Book One.

Alright, I finished the re-write again, yes that's right..I re-wrote a major storyline twice...but, I like where it's at now.

Tonight, the creative juices flowed like necter of the gods...I wrote a good storyline for the main bad guy, actually still writing on it..just taking a break.

Everything on my half is still going great...

However, my friend has slowed down due to School and Work...

But, still pushing for the end of the year to be, Book One done.

Update: Me and the co-writer(Ben) who is only 16 and lives with his folks(under their roof) who are very strict on what he watches or writes.
We have decided to not publish the first book, until we finish the trilogy..
The reason? if we publish the first book, it's very likely we wont be able to write the other two, once his parents see or read the first one.
So, we decided to wait til we finish all 3 books before we try to publish anything...so, that means you have to wait longer now.

We have been working on the 1st book for a year now, so that means, it will probally be two more years before we are done with the trilogy, which is good, because he will be 18 then and if we decide to work on more books, we will be able to.
He said he was moving out when he turns 18...

Book1 is coming to a closing soon, we are very close to the Epic War between the Hunters and the lead Vampire.
Book2 is in talks, and will be a 360* turn from the first one....the Brothers will be sent into another Dimension(Apocolyptic world)
Book2 promises alot of Action, from Melee to Guns....and for the 1st time we will see a major breakdown from one of the brothers who has seen enuff killing.

Awwwww man......I guess I'll have to wait.  But it better be in the next couple years like you said, because I'm not getting any younger and you'll have to put mine on a cd- with you reading it aloud, of course. Don't hire someone with a "radio" type voice to do the book on cd, I want to hear what it's supposed to sound like.  Wow....I've become a demanding old broad! yes..which doesn't make sense, seeing how they own Lord of the Rings movies and books.
It's really more of the Mother who disapproves of her son writing Fantasy Horror, because it isn't "Right"...and not too mention, I am such a "Bad influence" as well.

Yes..there are still narrow-minded people among us.  ;D

They believe D&D is of the Devil and dont want their son around it... and basically our book is pretty much D&D related...
Fantasy creatures,monsters, and weapons...

But, like I said....they have a problem with D&D, but own LOTR movies and books(which was the basis for D&D in the first place)

here is what I am thinking, I have yet to inform the co-writer of this...
we finish Book 1 and take a hiatus before starting on Book 2....that way, we can see if we can get the first one published..
I would like to start a new project, however, the co-writer may not want to be involved with my new idea...so, I may be going solo on it.
I would like to write a Zombie Apocolypse novel, based on the RPG that I have been playing at the RolePlayerGuild...
I already have some interesting characters lined up for it...

Carl"Odin" Riggs..Convicted felon, leader of a biker gang, known as "Sons of the Norse".
Sgt.Scott Cooper...Marine Sniper returning home from the war.
Travis Walker...Game Warden, was on a hunting trip when the outbreak happened.
Jun Lee...martial arts instructor and freerunner, was visiting sick grandfather, when the outbreak happened.
Robert Parker....construction worker.
Chantelle Black...17 year old student, who witnessed her entire family slaughtered by zombies
and a few others....

Tinking the name may be "The Final Stand" but that's not 100% yet...

And they already seem ready to be put into action.  I can't get over how these people and non-people just pop right out of your brain!  I couldn't even make up bedtime stories for my kids when they were little.   :)   It must be nice to have the gift of story. I can't wait to read them!

Without sounding like a wii commercial  :D

IMAGINATION....I pretty much grew up as an only child, my brothers and sisters(who are half) never really wanted the baby around.
So, I would have to entertain myself....and growing up in the country with ravines, giant trees,creeks,caves,etc.....really helped the illusion of the imaginary world.
Now, that I am older and not able to explore as I did as a kid, I bring the world to me.
Most kids today want videogames or Movies and play them 24/7...
I guess, in a way, you could say I am just a big kid....the Peter Pan Syndrome..  :o

Well thanks, Doc. I feel like I got a free sample of your brain! :)   My grandson is an only child and he lives in a semi-rural area and he is exhibiting an awesome imagination! It must have come from my daughter in law's side of the family. He has been telling me stories for a couple of years and he reads more than I do. I'm very happy that you are using your brain for good instead of well.....you know. And don't listen to Scatter- I get first lookies at the bookie! He'll probably try anything to get to read it first- lock it up as you're writing it.  Anyways, your family must be very proud that they have someone entertaining in the family. I paid thousands of dollars for private clarinet lessons for my daughter, only to have her wind up being a dentist and never pulling out her instument ( musical NOT dental) and play me some sweet music on demand! I'm sorry......I'm bitter about that! I mean you think she'd whip it out of its case and play happy birthday or something........ Sorry. Well anywho- thanks again for all the updates on your writing and take care of that BRAIN!!!!!

You would be in the beginning, the guy kickin back next to the pool, sipping on a tall glass of iced tea..... as the dead infest the beach resort, and attack you from behind ripping you apart at the seams....   >:D

why dont we ever see zombies attacking at a beach?

It's because that darn sand just gets in everywhere! Especially when your skin is already dessicated and torn!

Nice!! Actually, given the option, I prefer being ripped apart by zombies to sitting at the beach.

Ooooooooooh!  Bloody beach sand and blood splattered sand castles!  I like it!!   Little crabs scuttering around-blinded by the flying blood! Zombies on the beach delight me way too much!

I really like the sound of those characters Doc - especially like the idea of a free-runner navigating an undead world!

I still might work on this(solo) in the RPG, Jun Lee was a bad little dude, he used freerunning in the Mall scenario, when he fought against the raiders and zombies, while trying to escape.

The Marine sniper got caught off guard by a rocket launcher, which threw him into the belly of a hornet's nest(surrounded by zombies)
he was bitten and clawed several times, while he continued to give support to the rescue team(which was in the lower level of the mall)

(Some people are immune to the virus and others are just unlucky)

Well,  we did not finish on the deadline as I hoped we would, things have been real slow lately.

So, hopefully soon, we will get this bad boy done....we finally came to a reasonable agreement about who will sacrifice theirself for the better of mankind, so to speak.....and now, we should be moving along again. :)

Would an undead Dragon be able to produce fire? And if so would you be able to see the flames swirling in it's guts through the decaying ribcage? Or would it attempt to breath fire and instead spew out gallons of rotten, putrefying slime, and would that slime turn whoever it engulfs into one of the undead?

thrhrt Just a thought here: an "Undead Dragon" might produce "Black fire" or "Night fire" which doesn't burn but simply obliterates its victims?   8)

I cant remember how I addressed that question, but from my experience in the world of D&D, we (players) never gave those monsters a chance to react. :)

But, the Black Fire makes sense...
