One of the worst Vampires for me, or movie is " Interview with a Vampire" it may be cause of the two actors in it, Cruise and Pitt.

Interview is not THAT bad a film as long as you "get" the Anne Rice Gothic vampire world. Personally my fave vampire movie is 30 Days. A bit too much comic book CGI we run 80 MPH but still for the darkness/cruelty that REAL vampires are ..way cool.

It's got Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in it. Right there, it sucks. All it needed was Keanu Reeves to complete the Trinity Of Suckiness. ;D

But Angela Bassett made up for it. Actually I liked Vampire in Brooklyn. Black actors making their own vampire movie in the 90's in a similar vein of Blacula in the 70's. Of course, Blacula is a classic and VIB plaes in comparision, but a decent movie, one that I would watch over a host of others.

I actually like Interview.

1st like Wicked said you have to "understand" where it's comming from...it's not Dracula and it's not Blade.

The other thing is I think alot of people will disregard it as a true vampire film because theres a few pretty boys in it.

I think they both did a fantastic job and it was a really enjoyable film.

If this was 10-15 years ago, hardcore horror guys would bash Lost Boys too......another movie that I thought was cool as hell.

Lost Boys is one of my top ten late 80's horror films. F" Michael/Jason and Freddy. This was just plain FUN.

I am completely at a loss as to why those who like this film seem to labor under the assumption that those of us who do not are somehow incapable of "getting it".........which has become a repeated theme.

Rest assured, I "get it". It doesn't require any specialized intellectual or artistic acumen to "get it".  BTW, I love "Lost Boys". I "got it" there too.

I simply don't enjoy seeing vampires portrayed with palpably homoerotic overtones. "Interview With A Vampire" is nothing more than "Brokeback Mountain" with fangs. THAT is the milieu in which Anne Rice's vampires dwell.

Yup, I "get it". And I'd be willing to endure a cycle of penicillin to get rid of it.

A couple points on Interview..

I didn't rave about ,just said it wasn't that bad. Do I own it? No.
Would I watch it if I caught on cable? Probably.
I've read the book 3 or 4 times since H.S.
Aside from this I am not much of a fan of Anne Rice. Just couldn't get into her style.
And believe it or not I know quite a few horror fans that have never attempted to read her stuff considering how popular she is. Actually I wouldn't even classify it as horror. My wife thinks it's closer to paranormal romance/supernatural erotica tho she is not a fan either.

There obviously are all kinds of vampires and I'll watch almost any type of vampire movie ,except Twilight, but I prefer my vampires to be cruel and nasty.

I liked The Hunger, a different, sensual vampire movie. I liked how Bowie started aging and Denevue went after Sarandon for her next mate.

BloodRayne I didn't finish. What a waste of time.

The Lost Boys is a classic.

Here's another bad one: Vampz. The women were fine, but the movie?....

I just got Mrs. Amworth in from NetFlix. It's a low budget vampire movie, anybody seen it? The cover got me.

Again, I agree. Anne Rice, like her or not, is worthy of a separate discussion.

I thought The Hunger could've been much better, it put me to sleep.  And Shadow of the Vampire: as a monster fan, I hesitate to call anything "weird" or "out there", but I just can't go w/the premise, never seen it.

Opera ghost the crosseyed vampire you are talking about is from the House that dripped blood and the vampire was none other than Jon Pertwee. Also Lester is Mrs Amworth the Glnis Johns version or has it been remade the Johns version is a British tv play and is quite good although she does not have fangs it is more the mystery of her legend.

The version you are referring to was made in the mid 70's.
It was remade as a lower budget movie that went straight to DVD in 2007. I have not seen it but it sounds like something to pick up.

TV Horror, I also thought it was a remake of the 70's version. There were no fangs in this one either. Regardless, flee from this one.

TV Horror, I also thought it was a remake of the 70's version. There were no fangs in this one either. Regardless, flee from this one.

It looks like yet another misleading (false advertising) cover from Brain Damage. I've had a few of those.

kinda like "Shadow of the Vampire"  :P

Try to keep up Doc.........that's why I expressed surprise that I liked "Shadow", because I USUALLY don't like Dafoe movies.

Is it time for your pill yet? ;)

Shoot WL, remember going into video stores back in the day and picking out horror films you never heard of (because there was no internet) based SOLELY on the boxart?? Then finding out the art had ZERO to do with the actual film?? MAN that used to pizz me off.

Yea Bro. Nothing like judging a book/movie by the cover. Nowadays I check out IMDB before I buy, usually.

Better Vampires than "Twilight" or Anne Rice:

Grandpa Munster at least embraced his vampiness. None of this stupid angst crap. Not a whiny bloodsucker.

Count Von Count- Unlike Edward Cullen or Louis, Count Von Count could grow his own facial hair.. and he was better dressed.

Count Chocula- Not only does Choc not sparkle, a meeting with him is only empty calories, not wasted time.

Not only more frightening than LESTAT, BUT LOW-CARB

LOL-How true how true! Unfortunately my wife loves Twilight. I can not stand it, I so wish Christopher Lee would show up as Dracula and just kill everyone! My 15 year old son asked me if I thought vampire movies were scary and I told him, only when the vampires sparkle!

Didn't see it mentioned..
How 'bout "Blood For Dracula" aka "Andy Warhol's Dracula" (1973?)

Loved (I was 16 when I saw it - in 3D!) "Flesh For Frankenstein" but there
wasn't much I liked about "BFD"

Dracula Dead and Loving it is bearable if only because of the chick who plays Lucy.  Yabba Dabba! ;)

Funny. I never put Brad Pitt in the same class of douchey, pretty boy actors as Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise.

Brad Pitt made Inglorious Basterds, Johnny Suede, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, Seven... He never makes a movie where he's playing a pretty boy and he never makes romantic comedies.

This guy is more in the class of George Clooney and Johnny Depp (pre-Disney Depp. I'm talking Fear and Loathing, Edward Scissorhands, Dead Man Depp)

Several years back, I was watching the Dennis Miller show on HBO or something, and he started harpin' on Marilyn Manson and some other entertainers.  He said something about " I wish Christopher Lee would show up backstage at a Manson show and make him S*** his leotard ;D!! "

Sorry? Did I hear Twilight mentioned?

I'm sorry to break it to you. They're not vampires. They're fairies. And, in all honesty, Stephenie Meyer's fantasy world were she gets a hot boy who never ages.

I've read them all, but still- they just don't count.

30 days is okay if you like comic books turned into movies.  Lots of it is so over the top, I almost expected someone to shout "SPARTA!"

On topic:
There are plenty of sucky vampires.  George Hamilton was one of the worst.  I mean how did a vampire get that SoCal tan?!?!
