Interview is not THAT bad a film as long as you "get" the Anne Rice Gothic vampire world. Personally my fave vampire movie is 30 Days. A bit too much comic book CGI we run 80 MPH but still for the darkness/cruelty that REAL vampires are ..way cool.
It's got Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in it. Right there, it sucks. All it needed was Keanu Reeves to complete the Trinity Of Suckiness. ;D

But Angela Bassett made up for it. Actually I liked Vampire in Brooklyn. Black actors making their own vampire movie in the 90's in a similar vein of Blacula in the 70's. Of course, Blacula is a classic and VIB plaes in comparision, but a decent movie, one that I would watch over a host of others.
Bram Stoker's Dracula's Curse. All of them.
Salem's lot 2 ....I gotta put my waders on for that stinkhole
Brad Pitt

Innocent Blood by John LAndis Female vamp vs the Mafia. Anne Parillaud (femme nikita) was the lead and while she is a sweet little french pastry, the movie sucked.

I actually like Interview.
1st like Wicked said you have to "understand" where it's comming from...it's not Dracula and it's not Blade.
The other thing is I think alot of people will disregard it as a true vampire film because theres a few pretty boys in it.
I think they both did a fantastic job and it was a really enjoyable film.
If this was 10-15 years ago, hardcore horror guys would bash Lost Boys too......another movie that I thought was cool as hell.
Interview was ok, but aside from Aaliyah, Queen of the Damned was lame.

I am completely at a loss as to why those who like this film seem to labor under the assumption that those of us who do
not are somehow incapable of "getting it".........which has become a repeated theme.
Rest assured, I "get it". It doesn't require any specialized intellectual or artistic acumen to "get it". BTW, I love "Lost Boys". I "got it" there too.
I simply don't enjoy seeing vampires portrayed with palpably homoerotic overtones. "Interview With A Vampire" is nothing more than "Brokeback Mountain" with fangs. THAT is the milieu in which Anne Rice's vampires dwell.
Yup, I "get it". And I'd be willing to endure a cycle of penicillin to get rid of it.

You can be sauve and classy, and still be an ass kicking blood drinking vampire, take Angelus/Angel from the Buffy/Angel Series..

Even Radu had his moments as a sauve classy Vampire...
A couple points on Interview..
I didn't rave about ,just said it wasn't that bad. Do I own it? No.
Would I watch it if I caught on cable? Probably.
I've read the book 3 or 4 times since H.S.
Aside from this I am not much of a fan of Anne Rice. Just couldn't get into her style.
And believe it or not I know quite a few horror fans that have never attempted to read her stuff considering how popular she is. Actually I wouldn't even classify it as horror. My wife thinks it's closer to paranormal romance/supernatural erotica tho she is not a fan either.
There obviously are all kinds of vampires and I'll watch almost any type of vampire movie ,except Twilight, but I prefer my vampires to be cruel and nasty.
Here are a few more on the crappola list.
BloodRayne
Dracula 3000
The Hunger
Love at First Bite
Here's a few more I dug out of my stinker box.
Shower of Blood
Vampire Sisters
Blood Sisters
T&A couldn't even help these.

HA!! Don't even get me STARTED on Twilight!! ;D
I liked The Hunger, a different, sensual vampire movie. I liked how Bowie started aging and Denevue went after Sarandon for her next mate.
BloodRayne I didn't finish. What a waste of time.
The Lost Boys is a classic.
Here's another bad one: Vampz. The women were fine, but the movie?....
I just got Mrs. Amworth in from NetFlix. It's a low budget vampire movie, anybody seen it? The cover got me.
Is this the one? If so I'd be surprised if it was anything better than mediocre. Most of the stuff released by braindamage video varies from "ok" to total suckage tho they do have a couple good ones.

here's a list of Vamp films that I could barely digest...
Shadow of the vampire(boring..made it about 30 minutes into it)
The last sect(David Carradine)
Vampire's Kiss(the actual title starring Nick cage)
Rockula(Barfula)
Innoncent Blood
From dusk til dawn 2 & 3
Bordello of blood
Vampires:Los Muertos(Jon Bon Jovi Helsing)
Bloodrayne 2:Deliverance(Squeal lika pig)
The Hamiltons
The Thirst
Rise:Blood Hunter

Opera ghost the crosseyed vampire you are talking about is from the House that dripped blood and the vampire was none other than Jon Pertwee. Also Lester is Mrs Amworth the Glnis Johns version or has it been remade the Johns version is a British tv play and is quite good although she does not have fangs it is more the mystery of her legend.
Mrs. Amworth belongs front and center in this thread.
Enough said about it.
OG, Scatter, I'll have to give "Shadow" further consideration then.
I'll third Shadow. A clever script makes this a treat for monster, vampire and Nosferatu fans.
Malkovich and DaFoe command the screen.
Shadow sucked plain and simple.....the performance wasn't believable...

The version you are referring to was made in the mid 70's.
It was remade as a lower budget movie that went straight to DVD in 2007. I have not seen it but it sounds like something to pick up.

Funny. I never put Brad Pitt in the same class of douchey, pretty boy actors as Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise.
Brad Pitt made Inglorious Basterds, Johnny Suede, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, Seven... He never makes a movie where he's playing a pretty boy and he never makes romantic comedies.
This guy is more in the class of George Clooney and Johnny Depp (pre-Disney Depp. I'm talking Fear and Loathing, Edward Scissorhands, Dead Man Depp)
