Here's a silly but basic question.
When I go into a topic area and finish reading a thread, how do I go back to the board as a whole? I've been clicking on the Home link at the upper left, ehich works fine, but are there other handier links to get back to the topic area itself?
Great job, by the way. Nooks and crannies everywhere!
david
Try clicking the topic name and see if that gets you where you want to be. For instance, click "Induction Center" in the scary green font above. If you want to return to the main page, clicking Home is the best way. Clicking "We bid you welcome" will accomplish the same thing.

Hi David. Nice to see you here among us! Raymond has pointed out the best and only ways (so far) to navigate back to the main forum or to a board category. There is also another navigation feature that you may find at the bottom right corner of the screen. It's called the "jump to" option. Unfortunately, it's not very user friendly at the moment because of the GIFs that I used to name the individual boards in place of using raw text. This results in a rather cryptic looking navigation tool. You will notice that while the categories are showing, the boards are not, but rather symbols. The "jump to" feature still works though. I hope to correct this option in the near future.
Hello Dr. Ruth, I have a question... Ooops, wrong board.
I want to add a pic to my profile. Do I have to put it on a website? Can it pull if from my C drive or can I copy it to my profile? If I have to put it on a website, do you have any recommendations?
Thanks!

You'll need to load it up to some webspace of your own. Either of these are good for such things. Also good for when you want to post a pic of something in a message.

If you're doing an avatar, be sure to crop it square (so it doesn't distort) and make it at least 100x100.

Hello John. The way we have it set up right now is that members are free to modify their own posts, but not delete them. This was done as a preventative measure against somebody flaming some one, receiving fair and due criticism in return, and then simply turning around and removing their post altogether thereby making everyone else's posts look awkward and out of place. Even a post that is not abusive in nature when deleted can disrupt the continuity of the entire thread. Members who wish to change their posts can do so with the "modify" button. You can wipe out everything there and edit away. But at least that way, other members can still see an original post existed and that it was edited at a later time. Am I making sense here? :)

OK, I'm on the UMA board having a good time when my wife walks by. She says,"You have Captain freakin' Kirk as your avatar? This is the UMA son not a Star Trek geekfest! Get with the program!" So I scurry across the net and find one that suits my screen name. Please forgive this soldier for a slight breach of decorum.

Well, it was a Capt Kirk mask that was used for the first Halloween movie, so that kinda fits... ;D

I was reading through some posts where you guys had mentioned that you were experiencing problems with IE. When I first started MC, we had loads of issues which we thought to be caused by Internet Explorer. After months of members receiving banning notices and connection problems, we finally found out that it wasn't Internet Explorer but rather folks who used AOL. Just thought I'd share this since it caused us so much heartache. Hope it helps.

I believe I have discovered yet another problem on this message board. After changing my email address, I was logged out of my account, and I received a message saying I would have to confirm my new email before I can log back in. Only problem is, the confirmation email will not send to my mailbox. I am certain I put in the correct address, and even requested that the confirmation email be sent again and again...but still nothing. Please, any ideas on how to fix this? I don't want to be stuck locked out of my account.
Nicole
Hi Nicole. Notifications are currently not working at this time with our host. This will be corrected in the near future. PM me your new e-mail addy and I will correct this for you.
Thank you, I just sent you a PM with my new address. My apologies for the trouble.
Hurray, I'm back in again! Thank you so very much! :D
No trouble at all Nicole. My pleasure to assist, and sorry for the inconvenience.
BTW, great-looking avatar!
I was also locked out when my addy changed. I registered under a new name, but it is not my primary e-mail, so I don't check it very often. Naturally, I would rather use my original ID (monster.man). Can you help me regain that one...and then, delete the new one?
Hello clay.sayre. I just switched your account around using your old ID monster.man with your new e-mail addy. I think this was what you were after? Please confirm that this works for you. After your confirmation, I will go forward and delete your new account.
BTW, you may need to use your old monster.man password to gain access to this account.

aHA! - one place I didn't look - didn't expect it to be in there! Thanx Mike!
Just a thought - wouldn't it make more sense stickied in the main Monster Toys forum? I always think of "General Discussion" forums as anything not having to do with the main topic of the board...
Quote from: Eye of Kharis on February 06, 2008, 05:54:36 PM

Yes.
Yes, this time it's true! The e-mail portion of this forum is now operational! This is something we've never had since the creation of this site. You are now able to enjoy notifications. What this means is that when you click on "notify" at any given thread, you will then receive an e-mail stating that someone has posted a new message (or reply) at that thread. This will help folks keep abreast of topics that directly interest them without having to go looking for them at the forum. A convenience for members who wish to keep updated via their e-mail accounts.
Another huge difference will now be how new members gain access to this site. We no longer allow immediate activation. Members have to activate their accounts by clicking on a link that is sent to them at their e-mail address. This will help prevent bots from joining the site just to plug Viagra. This is good news for everyone here except for Max who relies on his Viagra prescriptions.
Here is a pic showing where the "notify" button is.

The Gallery- personal collections or reference photos?
I've stumbled across this forum and was oogling the gallery.. I actually began to salivate! Maybe I'm missing it but I haven't seen any specifics for what is posted there- Are these personal collections or are these photos for reference? I've collected some great photos of toys I had, have or want. Most are from Ebay auctions or estate sales. While they aren't private collectors' photos, I can't remember where exactly they came from either. I know some people are kinda prickly about crediting and sources and such, so I just wanted to ask before sharing..
The gallery is a reference for everyone's educational benefit. I don't think members are able to post to the gallery, unless something has changed recently. If you have personal collection photos, it would be better to post them here in the public forum. If you have something you think should be included in the gallery, it would probably still be a good idea to post it here first. Then a moderator can add it to the gallery if we don't already have an example of that toy.

To avoid distortion, make your avatar pic a square and at least 100x100 pxls. Load your pic to your webspace ( http://photobucket.com/ or http://imageshack.us/ are good, if you don't have any other space) and copy the URL. URL should end in .jpg or .gif
Click on "Profile" at the top of any forum page and under "Modify Profile" click "Forum Profile Information". Check the box for "I have my own pic:" and paste the URL in the box, then go to the bottom of the page and click "Change Profile".
Hey Wolfman66. If you'd like, post the url of your avatar pic, and one of us mods will paste it for you. :)

These are good questions. Here are the answers.
To see an "outbox" with your personal messages, you must first activate one.
Here's how: first click on your profile, click on "personal message options" under the Modify Profile box to your left side of the screen, look for the check box "Save a copy of each Personal Message in my outbox by default" and check it. Then click "change profile" (same as save) when your done.
After you've done that, you can find your outbox by clicking on the "messages" link at the top of your screen just as you've always done. The out box will be visible at the topside of your messages screen.
If anyone needs further assistance with this option, just PM me and I will be happy to do it for you.
BTW, there isn't a trash bin option. When you delete a message, it's gone.

Hi George. Your recent PM to me was received. Just replied back to you this morning. I've been busy with other matters lately, so my apologies for the delay.
BUT .. I still do believe that there is a software glitch with receiving PMs here at this forum. I plan on addressing this matter as soon as time allows. Hi Omaha - Wait you want to review Van Helsing???
lol ... I've only found one other person (besides me) who liked Van Helsing. We're a small bunch. :P
I liked the IDEA of Van Helsing. I liked the casting of Beckinsale as a vampire-hunting gypsy, and Jackman as the immortal Van Helsing, I even found the opening with Mr Hyde to be kind of fun, if inconsistant with every other version of Hyde. But the movie was clearly Universal's attempt to cash in on the success Sommers had with the Mummy franchise, turning a horror icon into a comedy-adventure icon.
There's just way too much swinging in that film, the werewolf crawls backwards up a wall... as a human(!) and turns back and forth from man to monster based on cloud covering, and Dracula defies all the traditional vampire weaknesses established in the novel DRACULA. With all that going for it, I barely noticed that the Frankenstein Monster had a positronic brain, and I actually enjoyed all the James Bond gadgets the friar brought to the film. I also appreciated the occasional nods to the horror originals, like the use of the gypsy poem and the treatment of Dr Frankenstein in glorious black and white.
So go ahead and write a favorable review. I'd actually like to be convinced to give it another shot.

Good eye Brian. That's a new feature that was just installed this morning. It works much like eBay feedback where members are able to provide feedback for one another. It's meant to work in unison with our Classifieds board.
An official announcement (complete with tutorial) will be made later today. Settings for leaving feedback are not enabled for regular members at this time. The staff here is still testing and adjusting things before changing permissions.

Your image is not square. It's about 3" wide by 3.5" tall. It's also very low-res. E-mail me the original file.

I'm doing what it says to do on posting photos.
Look in my "All things wolfman" thread and you will see a RED X, where my pic should be.
You should be good now. The problem was with the link inside. For example, one of them had .html instead of the .jpg of the image. make sure you right click on the image and copy the location from that pop-up window.

RPM,
Go to your flickr account and bring up the picture that you want to use and right click on it. Click on Properties on the bottom of the list of choices and you'll get a pop-up window for Properties. Highlight and copy the Address (URL) that's roughly in the middle of that window and paste that where you pasted your defective link last time. For example, the address for my avatar looks like this: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1353/3353837406_43c4e3b1a7.jpg?v=0

Make sure your pic is marked for "public" viewing too...
So where is the "Public" viewing checkbox? I remember seeing it before, but cannot locate it. Is it in Flickr or UMA? Sorry for all the problems I'm experiencing.

That would be in your flickr account, but I don't know where, 'cause I use http://imageshack.us/ because it's less hassle. Just upload your pic, then copy the direct link. That's it!

Newbie problem, i'm sure.
But a few pictures I've posted have disappeared. I checked my account on imageshack and they have dropped off there. Is there a way to restore these pics?

Fester, the fault lies with ImageShack. Once the pics dropped off THERE, they were no longer available for linking HERE.
2 possible solutions....
1) Re-upload the lost images to ImageShack, then modify the posts here where the pics USED to be to include the new URLs. Then wait for it to happen again, as it seems to so often with ImageShack.
2) Get a Flickr account, upload the pics there, and fugeddaboutit.
I'm on my way to Flickr.
Thanks!

I feel his pain. Since I blew out my knee and packed on about 20 pounds, my wife would rather not see any "candid" shots of me either. When you get some "candid" shots of the CEO'S wife, I'd suggest at that point you make the switch to Flickr though.
So I ask about lost pictures; take the advice to switch to Flickr; and I was just about ready to figure out how to replace the lost urls with new Flickrized ones . . . . and all the image shacked ones have reappeared. . . :P

I just posted something in the events section and I noticed that all scripting is not working. When I click on bold or to insert an image or a smilie face, nothing happens. I tried testing several other forums and it works, so it must be a forum thing here.
I just replied in that forum and used BOLD and a smiley. Noy sure what went wrong for you.
I just "upgraded" to Firefox 3.5. Could that have something to do with it? It's still not working, and only on this site for some reason.
Hello Barlow. I just made a test post using an image, a bold font, and smileys, and everything worked fine for me too. I 'm using Firefox 3.5.3
Try restarting your computer and see if that does anything. Also page refresh.
Ok tried that and it won't work. Can't find any settings that seem to affect it. If it were my computer, it should affect other sites, shouldn't it? Do we have any tech wiz's here? Because I'm a 'tard when it comes to computers! LOL!
Any suggestions? My browser works with every other site except here. Can't figure out why, but it's a real problem. Can someone help me figure this out?
As a proffesional tech wizard, I have my degree in the bs field, all you have to do is set yer computer down on the floor, and kick it several times, this should cause something to happen ;D
I've tried that. And it works, usually. :D
But no, I figured out it was a pop up blocker setting that was affecting it. Weird!

On your flickr page, hold the cursor over the photo and right click on PCs, or control click on macs. You should get a pop-up menu with some choices. Select "copy image address."
In your UMA post, click the image button. It looks like you already found that. Paste the flickr image address between the IMG tags. That should be all it takes. Click "post."
Hi Ray,
When I right click over the Flickr photo, "copy image address" is not an option, only "copy". Then in UMA, when I click image button and try to paste between the IMG tags, "Paste" is greyed out, so paste is not an option.
Instead, I used the Flickr basic browser, selected my photo, photo info. transfered into the cell, Selected "Copy", and pasted onto UMA between the IMG tags. (see below)
But I suspect, still no photo.
Not sure why I'm having so much difficulty, been trying for two days.
Thank you,
Richard

Oops. This is embarrassing. Sorry Nicole for the oversight. Seems we need to improve our moderation skills here at the Induction Center. Yes, your account was inactive due to a pending deletion request. We weren't sure what was going on with you, so we just placed your account as inactive. I fixed it. My apologies. And it's nice to have you among us still. Very nice.
Terry, I don't know how else to say this but... I LOVE YOU!!! Thank you so much for fixing my "Zombie" status. I tried to delete my account here (along with some accounts I had on other social networks) in an attempt to cut down the amount of time I spent on-line. But then all I did was miss you all, and it ate away at my soul until I had to come back. I promise you, I've learned my lesson about pressing the "delete account" button. I'll never do it again. The dark abyss is cold and unforgiving. Thank you, thank you for bringing my account back to life. :-*
Thanks for coming back home Nicole. I always say, "we leave the light on here for you at UMA." And no harm done in taking a reprieve from duty either. I've had to do that myself from time to time. Totally understandable.
And oh, I love you too. ;)

Can someone see if I'm on the mailing list twice somehow for forum reply announcements? I've been getting doubles for ages, and figured I'd better finally see if someone can fix that for me.
Thanks!
Hi Gary. What I think might be the problem is you had two notification preferences checked: * Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply and *Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic. I unchecked the first option. See if this eliminates the redundancy. If not, please let me know, and I will start pushing other buttons. ;)
Yep, that cleared it up!
Thanks!
Well, what do you know? I accomplished something today! Good to hear it Gary!

Hi Gareee. I double checked your notification settings and made sure all possible options were off. Please let me know if this continues during the next few days. If it does, I will begin seeking additional support from SMF. Thanks!

It works fine for me and others, so it's probably a browser compatibility issue or maybe corrupted cookies :D Try clearing your cache and cookies, log in fresh, and see if it works. Also, if you are using an older browser version, you might try updating it. Let us know if that works.

Until you get something better, click the "show all sizes" and get the address from that photo. Your URL needs to end with .jpg (or .gif). What you were using was an html page address.

Why do you say "actually"? That's how you do it!
The show all sizes button does not appear any more.
To get the URL that worked, I had to copy off the entire HTML address, and then cut the URL from the rest of it. I was literally cutting and pasting from the HTML. It was the only way I could make it work. It was kind of like dissecting, but smelled better.
Later:
OK I think I've figured it out. I just found this in the Flickr FAQ:
Where is the HTML code and photo file link?
The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in "Share this." To get to it just go to the main photo page, click "Share this", and then "Get the HTML."
There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.
The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.
We understand that many people were using that link on message boards to show their images and we are working on a solution that will allow you to post using BBCode (standard message board code) that links back.

At the top of the post it says I uploaded the photo from Image shack, but again nothing is there.
Hopefully someone can assist.
I also went through the tutorial on posting a picture. But just does not seem to be working.
I saw that you successfully posted pics of your Frankenstein model. Do you have the image posting down now? You can always modify your original post to look at what you did.

Here's the URL you want. It's also a good idea to make your avatar photos square, so the the image doesn't distort.

OK, I got my avatar going ok, finally, but still need help with the email thing.
I see you already figured out the avatar.

I would like to set up my post so that someone can click on a word and email me.
If you added your email in your profile, people can email you by clicking the icon under your avatar.
I really appreciate all the help given (and so quickly!). I figured out that the problem with posting my avatar was that the block where you enter the url already has "http://" in it, and I was pasting my url after that, resulting in "http://http://". Maybe a note should be added to make sure people understand how to correctly do that. Again, the help here is fantastic. By the way, hi MIke, didn't realize it was you.

Problem is you'd need different instructions for all the different places you can post photos.
Because of one one the settings on this board you can't put an email link in your message. You can put your mail addy in your post, but it won't link.

OK, I'm on the UMA board having a good time . .
Which ain't gonna last very long if I see that "Ugg Boots" link in any more posts!
Ever since the board got upgraded, I've had a recurring problem. I usually stay logged in, and when I open to the home page I click on the "read new posts since last time visited" or words to that effect. Sometimes it takes me to a page of new posts, sometimes I get a screen that says words to this effect: 'No new posts since you last visited. Click here to read all unread posts." It will say that when I haven't visited here for two days! It's a minor irritation but anyone got any ideas? Thanks!
ADMINS
Since the Upgrade, I've noticed that if I leave the site before going thru all of the new posts, there are some that seem to fall into a 3rd location accessed only when recently read and new posts have been exhausted. It is prompted by a note to see all unread posts. I found 3+ pages of unread new posts and recently replied to posts here.
is there another way to get to this location without entering thru the new posts or recently read post pipelines?

Hey Ryan,
I live in the LA area and have ordered from and shipped to the UK and rec'd shipments from China, and Canada
Shipping costs can sometimes include import and export taxes and you should contact the other side to see what would sort of fees might be incurred. I've had to deal with fees from Canada and England, and to England, but not from China.

QUESTION!!!
so i have a little iwata air compressor and the clear plastic dome that cover the air filter crack...letteing air in, no good! so it look like i can either remove the filter and just have a guage, or remove the guage and buy a new filter. I can not find a new filter that has 3 holes, one for the guage, hose, and air-in..... So my question is... would i be able to get away with having just a filter and no guage... i rarely look at the guage anyways. OR should I just scrap the air filter and just have a guage?
I may have made this confusing.
i hope not thanks ryan!!
I've ordered stuff from China and the UK - never had a problem.

Is it an older post? I believe that the modify option is only available for a limited time. You can message/email the moderator(s) of that area with the change you need.
Rob
I know it seems unusually restrictive. We've had some issues in the past with members abusing the edit feature, and unfortunately had to put a 24 hour limit on edits. If you need a post edited after that period, please use the "Report to Moderator" button in the lower right corner of the post and tell us what edit you wish to have made.

why is this not popping up screen wise? has the process of posting a video changed here?
Try writing it like this Doc ; THE WOLF MAN - 1941 - TRAILER (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTNQEd8D4pg#noexternalembed) I tried it, and it took me to The Wolfman. Was that it ?
Now it's not showing up as I wrote it, and it looks like this one can't be done. I'm guessing that's what the (prevents external bedding) implies.
Yep, if the person who posts it on YouTube wants to view stats about where it's being linked from, they have to prohibit external embedding, which is what they did in this case. Some YouTube vids are that way, nothing anyone but whoever uploaded it can do to change that.
how do i create an avatar from flickr there doesn't seem to be a .jpg at the end of the url

Right click on the picture, it will give you a choice of sizes. Select one and then right click on the picture in the new page and save the link to the image (depending on your browser, the exact wording may be different).

Terry,
Go to your flickr account and bring up the picture that you want to use and right click on it. This will give you the option to select a size of the photo to display (I usually choose medium as large is just to large). When the appropriate size photo comes up, right click on it again and this will give you a pop-up menu and the bottom option is Properties; select that. Then you'll get a pop-up window for Properties. Highlight and copy the Address (URL) that's roughly in the middle of that window. In the window for your post, click on the Insert Image button (Bottom row, all the eay to the left). Paste the address that you copied in between the 2 IMG sets. If you ever see the 'at" symbol in the address line, something's wrong.
For example, the address for my photos looks like this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2760/4256454507_be79ce9e32_z.jpg?zz=1 (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2760/4256454507_be79ce9e32_z.jpg?zz=1)
In between the IMG sets, we see this:
Give it a shot.

It's based on your number of posts.
New Recruit 0-49
Private First Class 50-99
Specialist 100-249
Corporal 250-499
Sergeant 500 +
There are no added benefits from having a higher status, it's actually a default setting in the software that we put titles in for. Most forums have something like this, but it can be disabled. I believe the thought behind it is that the more posts you make, the higher status because your "reputation capital" is built in the community, by posting and letting people know more about you and who you are. There are obvious flaws in that notion, someone who only posts in game threads is not necessarily telling anyone much about themselves, but there's really no way to accurately reflect that on a global (in the UMA sense) scale. You're almost a Specialist!

Because it's a recent post (< 24 hours), you can click on Modify Post to see what the link looks like so that you have a better idea which of the various link options on the ImageShack page to use. I use Flickr.com myself, so I don't really have any experience with ImageShack.

Go to the pic in PB and copy the "Direct Link" (on the right, where it says "share").
Click the "insert image" icon, above the :), in your message and paste the link between the (img) and the (/img).

Does anyone know why my Avatar didn't show up? I put in the URL from flickr but I only got a pic box with nothing in it (so I switched it back). The pic was 216 x 216 pixels at 72dpi so I think it should have worked. Does it take a while for the Avatar to show up?

No, I switched it back to this one from this site's choices because the pic I wanted from my Flickr page wasn't showing up.

Post the URL that you used into a message. Just the URL, no extra code.
I am trying to put a photo on my profile and I can't get it to work. Do I need to have a specific # of posts before it will show up? Am I just not doing it correctly? I uploaded an image to use to Photobucket - but It won't show when I put the URL or the IMG name in the box provided and hit "Save"
Make sure you are using the direct link option that PhotoBucket gives. The default PhotoBucket URL often fails to work with message board codes.
Thanks Mike... I did upload it to photbucket - I'll have to mess around with it!

Hello, folks, cool board. I made a few horror films and I'm currently working on my first dramedy -- along with a well respected indie producer. The main character in my story owns a comic book / collectibles shop and I'd like him to be working on a monster model throughout the film -- and perhaps feature a few others at his shop. So I'm looking for a company that might be able to provide us with a couple monster model kits in exchange for product placement. But here's the catch...they need to own full rights to the characters in the model and sign a release that indicates that...so we can legally film the models, if that makes sense. Please shoot an email to: goodnightfilm(*at*)gmail.com with any advice or if you know of anyone who might be interested. I can provide more details. Thanks. Alex (www.goodnightfilm.com (http://www.goodnightfilm.com)).

How do i get photos in my signature?
Just use the img code with the pics address.
I too had trouble with my tried-and-true ImgShack and then PhotoBucket. Finally went back to TinyPic and that works as the others should have. ImgShack had converted my 7-year free account into a 30-day trial-period-ended account. Gee - hope that works out for them. PhotoBucket, well, I never figured that problem out. When TinyPic worked immediately, as expected, I figured the other sites simply didn't want to cooperate. Brick walls, foreheads - ferget it. What's the old saying - "It's easier to switch than fight?"
Here's the question that's bugging me... I'm used to a Bracket String (command set) that allows a URL link to be posted WITH a text-description displayed instead of the website's actual URL.
I'm going to NOT include proper Brackets in this command string for demo-purposes only - I'll use Parentheses instead so I can display the structure.
(URL)http://somewebsite.com,Displayed Text String Here(/url)
I can't remember if the "Displayed Text String" shows up at the front of this command then uses a Comma, or a Semi-Colon ;, or if the Displayed Text String needs to be in quotes - since it has spaces.
Any hints how this website software handles the Displayed Text String option for URL postings? In front? In back? Quoted vs plain? Comma vs SemiColon?
HOW TO ADD A LINK TO TEXT:

Ah! Flickr is a problem, around here, because they use the "at" sign in their URLs, which this site (UMA) changes to (*at*), breaking the link. Unless you can convince Terry to change that, you're better off using a different photo host.
I'm afraid you're right Mike.
Scatter, my multiple failures for pix were all host-site issues - Flickr, etc - and I switched over to TinyPic and those work exactly like I always thought they would. I can't give glowing revues of TinyPic's "hoops of fire" to jump thru - every action seems like a needless step or two - but the Links to here work exactly like I remembered my other host-site functions.
Just testing something. Move along!
Just another test of mine...
And another test - this time with IE 11 instead of trust ol' Firefox.
A "no" on the IE 11 usage as a different browser... still no MODIFY button on the above REPLYs.
And one more test, using Chrome-whatever...
(And NO to Chrome usage providing any different behavior.)
Not a big deal. Mike, if you'd like to wipe out my REPLYs here to cut down on 'message litter', feel free.
Looks like you're just SOL, then! ;D

At one time the UMA had a world map where members could mark their locations.
Maybe I am just a dunce (OK, drop the maybe), but I am unable to locate it. Can someone tell me where it is - if we still have it?
If it is still around, maybe it could be permanently displayed on the Home Page. There is some unused space on the left towards the bottom. It would be cool to have it above the list of members currently active.
Thanks

I just think it would be cool if we had a breakdown of how the number of male, female members by age groups - and a map of where they live.
People would not have to enter exact birth dates or addresses - If they would just enter the year and their 5-digit zip codes, that would be close enough.
Just sayin'.

I remember mappings used in other forums, long ago, and I've not seen that technology for a while. (Five? No, probably closer to ten years.) One of those plug-in's for various forum-software, probably fairly pricey. I always wanted to incorporate a "click on/drill down" access to any marker's database to incorporate "what collections, what items in collections, etc."
In the world of peer-to-peer (P2P) networks where everyone sets up a "shared folder" that all other qualified P2Pers can 'see', I thought this level of 'sharing' would be interesting - having lists of items that could be downloaded or viewed on-line (massive bandwidth, therefore).
But there are threads here that offer a lot of that - it just takes time to wade thru so many and I'm always glad when someone else resurrects an old thread that contains a treasured topic.

3. Then hit the key to get the effect for what you highlighted.

My last posting in this thread is an odd one.
I did not mean to add the line through that posting, and do not understand why it did...SPOOKY!
I finally completed my reply, using the code I wanted. I just took a gamble, as my Preview still showed wrong, and Posted as is.
It was correct in the actual posting, I had forgotten, that I usually ignore the look in Preview, and just post.

I was noticing that I had just made my 6000th post and my "Rank" is Sergeant. That made me look at ranks in general. I supposed that members might be promoted when they reached some higher number like, say, 10,000 but saw that is not the case. Longevity as a member also does not seem to be a determinant.
What are the various UMA Rank designations, and how are they determined?
Just curious.

No, you still have to have your own web space/photo storage site. I like ImageShack. Many people use Facebook. Photobucket is worthless, unless you pay their $400 per year ransom.

Under the Show Stats heading of one's Profile Information, there exists a table showing Most Popular Boards by Activity. Whose activity then? What activity? The table shown for me bears no resemblance whatsoever to my own board activity.
???
The stats are the board's stats, not yours. "Most Popular Boards by Activity" means those boards have the most people visiting them.

Welcome to the UMA, Zardoz1! :)
To post photos in messages, you need to get the file address/URL of your photo and paste it in your message with the Forums code. That's [img] at the beginning and /img (also with brackets) at the end.
Your photos URL should end in .jpg, .gif, or similar, like this:
http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/new_logo.gif (http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/new_logo.gif)
Then add the code:
[img]http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/new_logo.gif[/img (and end bracket)
Test
Has anyone else been getting error messages lately when trying to post or access the board? It happened to me a lot last night and wasn't sure if it was on my end or not. Thanks!
Looks like everything's back to normal today. No problems. "Must of healed up."
Query:
Is there a way to get "Notified" every time a specific member posts?
F'rinstance: Our DirtyHorse Dan posts lots of beautiful model work here, but they are all in separate threads. For someone to catch all of his posts requires periodic thumbing through the category, searching through any new headings, daily visits to View All New Posts or looking back though their post history.
Or there could just be someone who's posts we all find incredibly entertaining or outstandingly inciteful - Like someone not wanting to miss any of my gems.
(Oh, sorry about that, here let me help you back up on your feet.)
I can see where there would be times it could be handy to be able to track (not in a stalky way) another member's musings. It would be cool to just get an email when they deem to share.

And very curiously this seems to have corresponded with Photobucket not automatically reducing uploaded images to manageable size.

If you wrote the code just like that, it wouldn't have worked. You've got spaces either side of your = signs. Should be like this. "width=804" Also, you don't need the height.
Hmmmmm. While I don't think I put in spaces, just putting in "width=800" worked. Thank you!

Thanks for your help. I am still thinking it over as which photo sharing site to go to.
Perhaps Google, don't know much about it, reviews are pretty good, Flicker too.
I am the 'Ole Mummy', needing to be taught new tricks, and that ain't easy.
That is why I liked Photobucket so much, very user friendly, for me.
Now I see they are trying to make a comeback! A smaller group owns them now, and they are begging for return customers.
You might even find your old pics if you return to them, and for a small starting fee $ 4-6 bucks. I believe $11. + for complete access.
Imageshack did not come away with great reviews-as far as believing any ones reviews.
So I will mull it over a bit, as it seems it is a crap shoot either way.

Just post your suggestion in one of the threads that you think should be merged.
What happened to the Latest Posts/Unread Posts feature at the top of the page? It's been gone for well over a month.
???

Do you mean:
"Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts."
Should be right under "Hello (your name)". I see it.
Well that's interesting. I no longer see "Hello Hepcat" either.
But I have found the line:
Universal Monster Army »We Bid You Welcome! »Recent Unread Topics
It's not as good as the other two though.
???

I guess something is better than nothing!
It's kind of hard to fix something that doesn't look broken.
Here are a couple of screen captures of what I'm now seeing when I log onto UMA:

If you see this in the upper right corner, click on the arrow.

Did you fix it?
Yes! I just fixed it by clicking the arrow which was pointing down. The arrow is now pointing up and the words:
Hello Hepcat
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
Have reappeared! Not that I can understand why there'd be an innocuous arrow someplace that would eliminate these very useful tools....

Ours is not to reason why! :)
Hi 👋🏽, I'm using Tapatalk as well as the UMA website. I use Tapatalk for a Halloween Forum as well and I've noticed a few differences that I'm hoping you can help with. With the UMA website I see I can "like" others posts but I don't seem to have the "like" option in Tapatalk like I do in the other forum. I also can't seem to figure out a way to edit my own posts in either the UMA website or Tapatalk if I wanted to make a correction. Hoping you can help point me in the right direction. Thanks So Much!

Revisit your post. You should see a MODIFY button on the top right. Click on that and make your changes.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing either option on my end. Here are some screenshots:

I don't see the MODIFY option in this thread, either.
But I do see it in other threads at the UMA.
Terry set it up so you could only edit posts for 24 hrs. PM me if you want to make a change in one of your posts.

That's been changed and is no longer a problem. It seems though that there's no Edit allowance in this particular thread. Perhaps because it's in the Induction Center forum.

Oh, good! Guess I firgot? :)
Thanks so much! I see the modify option on another thread in the web version now. (Screenshot below). Again really appreciate all your help!
If anyone knows any tricks on liking or editing from Tapatalk please keep me posted, could very well be user error or setting issue in my end.

You're not missing much. UMA is more visually appealing in web format in my opinion. I'm just used to Tapatalk from the Halloween Forum and it's pretty easy and fast to use on a mobile device which I like. It's glitchy at times though with notifications.

Does anyone know of a way to employ reverse italics on this board? I want the letters to lean backward as opposed to forward.

Can you type it somewhere else where it works, copy that and then paste it here?
I've not discovered any site where it works. I'm hoping to find some such a site so I can copy the coding and see if it works here. I've found discussion of reverse italics but not with any coding I could understand let alone copy and use. I was hoping something like {RI][/RI} would be the answer but no such luck.

. . . so I can copy the coding and see if it works here.
I don't think HTML codes will work in these messages. Only forum codes. If you can find an online converter, you can copy and paste the results here. There's one for esrever txet, but I don't know of a reverse italics one.
Long time member....is there a way to change my login name? Or do I have to delete account and sign up again?

Go to "Modify Profile > Account Settings" and click "change" Username and read the red instructions.
The automatic size reduction for pictures no longer seems to be working. And even pecking in width=800 inside the IMG tags doesn't work.
???
Once again, why does the size reduction feature for pictures no longer work?
???

Works for me, when I use the code. Are you putting a space between img and width?
First of all until a few months ago the program here automatically reduced pictures to width=800. It no longer does so.
But let's try a couple examples. First of all raw with no reduction pecked in:
Secondly reduced to width=300]:
???
Hmmmm, so it works.
Okay, so I just figured out what happened. About ten weeks ago I started losing the right edge to pictures reduced to IMG=800 on my screen. I could not understand why. But I've now found the reason. The magnifier on the upper right of my screen had at some point been reset from 125% to 150% and I hadn't noticed!
I usually have my magnifier set to 150% so I can read the text more easily. Occasionally I have to reduce it to fit in whole pictures or pages.
Why has the forum gone strange today?

There was a big technical failure that wiped out all of the settings and, temporally, the content. We got the message board back, but it will take a while to restore the rest.
Finally some success with the Gallery! I believe I've finally found the proper recovery path. It's going to take some time, but now I'm very confident this will get done.
Will we get back those galleries for Super 7, Funco and the others?

All galleries eventually will be restored.
