Greetings!

My name is Ty, a new member to this great forum, and I wanted to introduce myself.

I am a 32 year old librarian by day, but during stormy nights I am a lover of all things Universal Horror and creatures great and small. Some of my favorite hobbies revolve around collecting Super 8/16mm films, drawing, and just recently started dabbling in Model Kits!

I love watching the classic horror films on my Super 8 projector and collecting classic film memorabilia too!

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and hopefully find some help to get better at painting models.

I hope you all have a great day.

Stay spooky.

Mike Scott

Welcome to the UMA, Ty!  :)

Love the box art on all the old Super 8 (especially Castle Films) horror/sci-fi titles!  :)

Shriek back to you, ty0005. There was nothing more fun in the '70s than shooting amateur monster movies on Super-8.
'Got boxes of them in storage along with Castle Film digests and silent era comedies. Our local library used to have movies
on S-8 cartridges that I'd spend all afternoon watching. What do you have in your collection? Can one still purchase S-8
film stock and have it processed? Have fun here. There aren't many active members left but we can still roar when motivated!

I shoot a lot on my Super 8 film camera! Mostly home videos and short films for my enjoyment. I ship them off occasionally to get developed, then I digitize them myself with my Wolverine film transfer machine. It's expensive but worth it if you can spread it out.

You can still buy a lot of films today through film forums sort of like this place, as well as eBay! It's always better imo to buy from other collectors because you'll often get a fair deal compared to some of the prices you can pay on eBay.

I love the old Castle films, but don't own many of them at present. The films in my collection:

John Carpenters The Fog
John Carpenters Halloween
Poltergeist
ET
Secrets of Nihm
Raiders of The Lost Ark
A Boy Named Charlie Brown

Plus a ton of short 200 ft/400 ft reels of digest films or cartoons.

I look forward to talking with anyone here!

Mike Scott

Since you said "plus" a bunch of digests, does that mean the titles you mentioned are complete, feature length films?

Yup! Full features for those listed! I think I have a couple westerns too, but I'd have to look at my films to remember what the title are.

In the days before home video, I had a modest collection of 200' S8 films. Sold them all years ago but kept these 2 because I collect CFTBL stuff.

'The Creature' is my favorite too! I have a 400 ft digest of the original on 16mm. Although, I am sad to report that it has the early stages of Vinegar Syndrome. Still runs well right now, but def has that vinegar odor.

Here is most of my Creature collection. The first page is mostly cards and other stuff from my Creature binder.

Cool! Nothing beats Super 8 and freshly popped popcorn when it comes to reliving the monster kid experience.

Have you confined your dabbling to traditional styrene plastic kits or have you already branched into resin or vinyl kits?

But why do you want to digitize them when you have your own Super 8 projecting equipment?

Weren't the Castle Film digests the Super 8 products advertised in Warren magazines in the 1960's and 1970's?
