Unless I hear it's super terrible I'm in for sure. It looks like a rip-roaring good time. Shocked Roland Emmerich didn't direct it ;D

Saw the previews.  I was a little disappointed that there weren't big red or white pegs sticking out of the ocean. . .

A Movie "based on" a board game?!?!
Has Hollywood run out of ideas?

How about one based on Hasbro's Ouija Board?

Workin' on that:

Wired Magazine has suggestions for more game inspired movies. http://www.wired.com/underwire/2012/05/toy-and-game-movies/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wired%2Fculture+%28Wired%3A+Culture%29&pid=6952&viewall=true (http://www.wired.com/underwire/2012/05/toy-and-game-movies/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wired%2Fculture+%28Wired%3A+Culture%29&pid=6952&viewall=true)

Personally, I might go to see Battleship
But I'm really holding out for the even bigger epic:

Tiddlywinks is long overdue for becomming a major motion picture, and so is Tic Tac Toe!

And let us not forget Johnny Depp starring in Tim Burton's Candyland!

Actually, I think Candyland has potential. Katy Perry's music video had a fun look. Go with that.

are we going to get the line "You Sank My Battleship!"  I'm not expecting much other than to laugh and see some things blow up. Sometimes that can be a good a thing....

Going to a screening tonight. Expect lots of stuff to blow up. Hate to say this but I think it may be a fun summer popcorn film.

Just got back.
It is a fun fun fun film.
Yes, there are lots of scenes that make as much sense as the ID4 aliens being susceptible to a windows based virus (yes, I know the cut scenes explained that). But it is still, for lack of a better term, a hoot.

I don't want to give anything away, but let me say that if NY is attacked by aliens, I glad The Intrepid is here to protect us.

I'm in! Big time! Next Tuesday evening. A navy fleet of battleships against alien invaders? You can't go wrong with that combination. I mean talk about potential for over the top pyrotechnics!

;)

I'm sure it'll be remade before too long as Chutes & Ladders: Chute to Kill...

Yeah I was thinking same thing. When I first watch preview on my TV set, I was like "Aliens? Aliens?! We don't need ALIENS!! There is NO aliens in Battleship BOARD GAME!". Again, it really blows my mind when it shows "Battleship" title logo, I was like "wow, just wow, Hollywood sure REALLY hit bottom of the barrel now this time".

Clue the movie was good and almost faithful to its board game itself, but preview for battleship just looks not faithful enough to me. But hey, it's today's hollywood and we know they'll mess it up anyway.

Hollywood is very AFRAID to take risks those days now, they don't want to come up something creative and original (not remakes). I think they just throw aliens in because they think lot people will go pay to see it on big screen if it has aliens in it, whatever.

I alos liked the movie Clue, but they had more to work with.  A group of suspects, in a spooky old house, and at least one of them guilty of murder.  What does "Battleship" have?  Sticking pegs in little toy boats.  One of the fallouts of this film's lack of boxoffice, is that "Happy Fun Ball the motion picture" is now in development hell.

Fair enough, still I feel they would have done it without aliens and work on something else that is bit closer to idea behind battleship board game. Just think, ALL battleships (good and bad) with their radar JAMMED badly that they have to guess where is their enemy hiding, are they hiding under a boat house, cruising with school of fishes, or under pier? Now that is a REAL thriller to me and I'll buy it for a dollar!

EDIT: I can image seeing tagline on poster that shout out "GET THEM BEFORE THEY GET YOU!"

I guess aliens gimmick failed to pull more kids in due to fact that not very many kids today would play board games anyway, they would rather play video games those days now. One yard sale where there are very many board games that I asked the seller if he has any video games to sell but she said no and it's impossible to pull it away from her children those days.

I used to play Battleship board game with my family until to the point they no longer want to play it anymore that I have no choice but to play Super Battleship on my Sega Genesis with computer itself instead.

The director claims they went with aliens because there's no foreign modern navy that can truly compeat with the US Navy. And, he didn't want to make a period WWII movie. So, what's wrong with setting it in the near future and creating an enemy navy that COULD challenge the US? Oh, right-- that would require talent and creativity!

They could have had us taking on the Swiss navy.

Setting the movie in 2041 with the American fleet taking on the Chinese navy would be good then!

I guess it's not very surprising due to the fact this movie flick might have cult following as a human vs. aliens movie fare, LOL, I don't see anything wrong with that anyway. I think they should change title or something but they would be like "no, that will lose money, we need something that is clearly known to many people and make more money off of it" so yeah they used very known title logo but I found more of a misleading title logo slapped on something that is more like a monster movie flick.
