Jim B. - I swear I can hear a ukelele playing when I look at your first 2 photos. They really are from a sweet looking time and place, when you were happy to have a little piece of Summer paradise......ahhhhh! That little straw hat is adorable. And then there was Alaska- my sister lived in Nome for 3 years with her teenage son that hated every minute of the biting cold. But your brother looks like it was ok for him! He must have been a laid back kid to look so natural in that cold setting- I know it's not ALWAYS cold there, but it sure is not a state for wusses like me    How come there are no "ugly kids" on this history tour?  Every one of these photos are the most precious looking children I've ever seen, and I have worked with children for years!!  Am I to assume that the most beautiful cherubs on Earth become monster lovers? Hmmmmmmmm..

Mono! A 2 Garloo Christmas! Too good to be for real, but there it is!  Hey, your sister did alright too! That is the 25 inch Deluxe Reading Beauty Parlor doll that had washable rooted Saran hair that you could wash, set, comb and style. The Deluxe Reading De Luxe Beauty Parlor came with swiveling beauty chair (in lower left of photo), hair dryer on chair high swivel stand, manicure set, hand mirror, brush and combo set, little hair curlers, cotton puffs, pretend lipstick, perfumes and powder. Deluxe Reading introduced the Deluxe Reading Beauty Parlor in 1961, selling them in grocery stores, usually displayed enticingly over the freezer cases as I recall. Suggested retail was $12.88. Oh, and the lipstick came in either Rosebud or Dreamy Pink. The box for the Deluxe Reading Beauty Parlor measured a whopping 34" x 15" 10"....................................................not that I know anything about girl toy collectibles......afterall..... Here's me Christmas day, 1974.  My first monster related gift - the Frankenstein puzzle.  Couple of my brothers playing Paddle Pool. 

Hey, I had Paddle Pool too!! Man, nothing screams 70s like a couple of hippies playing Paddle Pool on a green shag carpet!!

LOL! Yea, at one time I was going to collect all the Deluxe Reading toys and the Beauty Parlor came my way. I've since given up on the girly toys, but still have that one.........and the G I Joe Nurse......and the Mrs. Beasley doll.......but that's it......I promise! After all, I'm a guy!           Buddy
