I think you're right that this will likely be the last Universal monster figure by Super 7.  'Course they'll prob keep em coming with various paint jobs and glow in the dark figures

Are we dealing with another lapsed copyright like Metaluna Mutant?

What happened with This Island Earth?

Don't know why, for sure, but MM toys never has a Universal copyright mark on them anymore. The movie is still copyright Universal Pictures.

Guys, in this very thread there is an instagram post where the dispute was spelled out. It went to court as to who owns the rights to the costume design. It was challenged in court, and evidently Universal either thought it wasn't worth fighting over, or they lost. As a result MM is no longer included in Universal monsters line ups.

Shannon first let us in on what the dispute was over, and another poster spent a whole lot of energy and time trying to discredit him. Then the truth came out.

On another note; I got my Werewolf of London today. Finally rounding things out. I hope he is the final figure in their ReAction offerings. It's a great card, decent figure, but prices keep going up and I would rather eat food than buy baby dolls at this stage of life .

Where did you get this majestic and long awaited beastie? I haven't seen him up for anything other than an eventual preorder.

Could you give me a link to that post? (Right click on the post title and copy the link.) I don't seem to remember it, which is becoming a frequent problem.

Shannon told us it was due to licensing and Vulcan's Fury went off on him, and history has proven Shannon was indeed correct. Trust darkmonkeygod.

Anthony at Tactic 2 Toys ebay store. He got a case last week. The world has not recovered from her ports fiasco, and covid, so its entirely possible something may not make it to page official photos and poof....just show up. World is still in utter chaos.

That Instagram link really doesn't explain HOW there was a dispute over the Metaluna Mutant.  I mean, it wasn't in the original novel - it was added to the movie to give it a monster.  It was designed by the Universal Studios makeup department, who were works for hire.  So how did someone claim that the costume design was there's and not Universals?

The same reasoning I guess behind the Shuster and Sigel family taking DC to court constantly over Superman.  Resulting in DC paying the heirs a stipend seemingly til eternity. If you read the conversation off to the right hand side, it states Super7 made a statement to the effect of it no longer being able to be a Universal Monster. I don't know all the legalese....I just know darkmonkeygod was right. It was a licensing dispute.

Whenever there's money to be made, someone will come out of the woodwork with their hand out.  But what would happen if they said, "I want 10% of what it makes" and it loses money - bet they'd say "I want nothing to do with it" if it loses money and they had to pay out that 10%.  It's always "If it makes money I want some & if it loses money you have to pay that, not me!"

Oh, I thought you meant it was in this thread (the one you're reading right now)! No wonder I don't remember it.

I'd still like to know who does own the rights. They don't seem much interested in having their name on anything, like the Chaney family, etc.

(A rhetorical question.) What we wanna know is, who are the Shuster's and the Sigel's in this case?

Only The Shadow seems to know, and he doesn't talk much these days unfortunately. :-[

I see Super 7 have variants for their 7 inch Nosferatu and Metaluna Mutant (the mutant in glow plastic).
