Title: Frankenstein Monster Speaker
Post by: Gory Glenn on June 04, 2015, 12:02:53 PM
OK kids, get out your wallets and you too can have a vintage Frankenstein Monster Speaker for only 9 grand and free shipping! You gotta love the instructions for modding this guy to work in your car. Cars must have had a pretty crappy speakers for this to be an improvement.  :D

Yep, that free shipping really sways me. I wonder if this belongs to a UMAer. I think I've seen this particular one before.

It has been offered before. The final price would be up to the buyer, but this is a nice one, for sure.

There is no arguing about the box, though. Mine is the best one out there, stored flat, but this one is very good.

It's my speaker. Ridicule of the premium price is expected, but the free shipping??  :o

Bob- I've heard your box is very clean....do you have any pics of it?

It is the people who charge $10 $20 for shipping for a muti-$1000 item that should be made fun of!   ;)

Pal, if I had nine grand laying around, I would grab it in a heartbeat (I would even offer to pay for the shipping). Great piece!

No offense intended. It always amazes me when folks put up vintage toys at these kinds of prices and they sell. There are some Lincoln figures being discussed here that are fetching incredible prices. My pockets just aren't that deep. Good luck to you and welcome to the UMA!  :)

I'm not sure what the intension was, but I just read it as amusing.
The speaker is an amazing item, maybe I should play the lottery so I could own some of these items!

Just taken this afternoon...it is wrapped in thick plastic for protection, so the colors are a bit softened.

I got this like 25 years ago in a trade with Gary Knox. It was stored flat in a book, as found, as I remember.

Very nice! Ol' Frankie looks a little alarmed (in the orange panel) that his head is in a box and/or being carried around by a kid.

That is probably the best example I have ever seen. As far as the free shipping, it was just meant for light hearted amusement. When something is being sold for thousands of dollars, I would assume free shipping would accompany it, providing it wasn't extremely expensive. As mentioned, not offering free shipping on high priced items would not be amusing, but a bit irritating. It would be like buying a $40,000 vehicle and the dealer saying ok, the cup holder is not included. That will be $40,000.50. ;D

That eBay speaker is amazing and I too wish I had that kind of dough.       It will be interesting to see where the auction goes.

I regret NOW that I ended up selling my sealed Frankenstein Bike Buddy.     Oh what a fool I was....

To anyone who may be interested, I'll gladly take into consideration any reasonable and/or equitable cash & trade or full trade offers. I love rare and high end 50's-70's toys, advertising figures, cereal boxes and other kids product packaging, store displays, etc. In addition, my interests extend to classic German cars (particularly 50's VW beetles & vans, BMWs), other European sports/exotic cars, and mid-century modern furniture, art, & decor.

Maybe we need a speaker head registry?  To the best of my knowledge, here are the boxed examples I'm aware of:

Mine (ex-Mike S.)
Bob M.
Sam (sold recently, ex-Mark Karpinsky?)
Bryan (sold last year, ex-Danny?)
A certain lead guitarist.
Example sold on Ebay by Chic-A-Boom approx. 5 yrs ago.

Can anyone add to this list?

Plus however many more there are in private collections that haven't come to public market for many years.

I have sold at least 6 loose heads in the past, but I have only ever crossed paths with one box in the wild (the one I own), and not counting "ebay" ones, more recently, that I "could have owned" for a price.

I know Mark Karpinski had two boxed ones years ago, and where they went I can't remember.

What does a loose one go for without a box? What about a complete speaker and box? How much just for the box? I can't seem to find any prices. Just interested in what they're worth. I see a few custom and newer retro-style ones on Ebay.

I have seen speculation that a complete one with box would go for at least 10 Grand.

I suspect that an Ex/NM box would fetch substantially more than the speaker itself. And that's despite the fact that any hi-fi buff requires two speakers for his stereo because mono just won't do once you experience the sound separation of stereo.

I really do suspect that the quantity in private collections absolutely dwarfs the number classified as "known".

If BigShadow has a $7 bill that somehow escaped from the U.S. Mint as an error, he's rich beyond the dreams of avarice. It would fetch mega millions$ at auction.

There are two versions of the Frankenstein Speaker.  One has full paint on the face - a light spray that looks like he is wearing makeup.  The other has paint only on the hair, eyes lips and scars - basically two colors black and red.

Easy to tell them apart the one wearing makeup is a lighter green, while the naked face is much darker.

I have one of the Speaker Heads without makeup.  I think they look better, because the lightly sprayed faces usually have paint that is scratched off (like the Clinton Strange Buckets) with a lot rubbed off the end of the nose.  The naked faced Speakers don't have that worn look.

I have the Speaker that used to belong to ToyRanch.  It is in great condition.  I paid $2500.00 for it a few years ago.  It still has its original wire, but no box.

There's at least one more version. Here are pictures of the one in Richard's collection:

It's molded in blue plastic and spray painted green. He's still looking for another matching one for his stereo.
