I agree 100%. They also gave the same treatment to the Aliens set. Sliding the disks in and out is a sure way of scratching them over time.
Same with the Universal Monsters Blu-Ray set. Just get some plastic protective sleeves & store the discs in that. Better safe than sorry.

I bought the UK box. The discs are snapped on trays.

Same here. I love that set. My sister threatens to steal it.

Tell her that her shiny new flat-screen may have an embedded check against displaying PAL video (720x576 pixels) vs. North America's standard NTSC (720x480).  North Americans are unworthy of seeing so many pixels-per-inch.  We are worthy of seeing a higher refresh rate, though.  I'm glad that Mike's confessed to his equipment's capabilities, because I've got just the right torture test awaiting.

The UK Universal set is region free. It will play on any player/TV.

Every time I see a monitor with the hyped "with HDCP!!" on it, that's a red-flag saying, "We can play Copy-Protected Media, AND WE CAN STOP YOU FROM WATCHING IT, TOO."

At the monitor level.  Beyond a player-device's control.

The PAL vs. NTSC video-refresh specs are 'beyond region encoding' - that was obviously too simple for the Sony-Philips camp to acknowledge its defeat.  But PAL vs NTSC Video Refresh (both pixels-per-inch and frames-per-second 25 vs 29.97) are different, too.

This is a strange plague that only affects some North American flat-screens - those that have purchased that chipset (or more likely an additional code to their controller-firmware).  No flat-screens sold in the rest of the world - which all use the PAL video format - are affected.  Only in North America are we limited to what we can watch, when and where via disc.  And that "HDCP" lingo will mean the current streaming limitations can be extended to perhaps exclude OLDER devices ("if your device doesn't have HDCP controls, then we disallow this stream from being played").

You don't speak techsperanto?
I write all of this with a quill on parchment, then have my girlfriend transfer it to this "laptop" thing (as you kids call it).

It's cheaper than the US set, too!

If you're down to your last BluRay-dollar, you might save it for CANNIBAL WOMEN IN THE AVOCADO JUNGLE OF DEATH (1989) with Shannon ("Miss Softcore 1991") Tweed, Adrienne "Of course these are real!" Barbeau and Karen "They told I had to if I wanted to be a big star" Waldron.

And Bill Maher.

This is the film that Orson Welles was once to have said, "I wish I'd never made movies at all" and "If I had died in childbirth, I'd have been happier."

The story has Dr. Tweed, PhD, in search of the mythic Piranha Women living in the uncharted wilds of the Avocado Jungle (actually, a field outside of San Bernandino) so she can talk them into moving to a reservation - a condo in Malibu.

This film might qualify for Tiki-Status in some ways but, alas, the only monsters are the story, the dialog, direction and acting.

Unless one considers the support-garment construction requirements.  I'll leave the Tiki accreditation to Memph in this case.

The BluRay is scheduled for release Feb 9, 2016, so there isn't a lot of time to shovel a few extra blocks of snow, sell a few extra gallons of blood, sell that spare kidney, heart, etc - whatever you need to do to accumulate the small fortune this BluRay is likely to command.

It's a cinch to avoid the Dollar Bin for at least 3 weeks.  For those who can sacrifice the outstanding HD quality of this film's original mastery, the DVD's already made it there.

Just from the title alone, I think I would be in Orson's camp on this one.
