Title: Guess a Classic Horror/Sci-Fi by a Description
Post by: Memphremagog on March 18, 2017, 04:20:38 PM
Ok this thread has an easy premise: someone posts a vague(not TOO much detail) description of the plot of a horror or sci-fi movie and members try to guess which film it is. Winner gets to pick next film.  Have fun and if you want, inject a little humor in the descriptions as well.

Here's an example: A town goes to sleep while aliens knock their women up..  VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED(1960)

Zombie Cool

Starting off with this one:

A living corpse wanders around a small Massachusetts town occasionally murdering people..

Is it Mummy's Tomb or Mummy's Ghost? Both New England towns (Mapletown), both Universal, both have tana tea. The Tomb has Zucco...so that gets my guess....since he's in Mad Ghoul too.

It is THE MUMMY'S TOMB..I thought that the "drinking tea" would be a dead giveaway..lol

OK-- Professor picks his daughter up from the airport, and then drives out to a desert to see some hermit. A hermit who tells him he has the makings of a good book, and something curious to show him. Shows him a skeleton he found in the hills....thats not quite human. Then trouble ensues.

A man has an unexpected evening encounter at his cabin lodge. One that forever changes his life, as well as his son's and his ex-wife's. Things go from bad to worse as the locals get involved. Some act as a mob seeking justice. Others as a late night snack.

It's from the '70s. It stars a guy who was in several Horror flicks of the time, and was also a guest star in a Kolchak episode. His performance in this film is very good. He's one of my favorite actors.

Another day, another hint:

The star was in a fairly well known Eurohorror vampire flick that had a title change to match the title of this film so they could play a double bill with similar sounding titles. They made a great Horror drive-in double feature back in the '70s with this fellow starring in both films. The vamp film also starred another male lead well known in the genre as well as two major Eurohotties.

A non US resident, who the government believes they "own" because of once residing in America (albeit briefly) returns to the US for a visit.  The town is quite different from the larger areas roamed in the stranger's life since leaving. Upon flying into town, the stranger visits all the happening spots, stops by the local eatery, catches a movie, and ends his night the center of attraction.

Unfortunately the stranger's ways don't sit well with the townsfolk, and attracts the attention of the US government . These ways include being extremely ill mannered and pushy, and being a menace. The townsfolk eventually give the stranger the cold shoulder in the end and the government proves they suck at everything once more, as they are completely impotent and complicit in the stranger's bad behavior. An absorbing tale of a someone trying to get out of the shadow of their father if you really think about it.

Yep. Mike guessed it correctly when I similarly posted it as the pic in the other thread (Name The Monster Movie). His "Deja-Vu" comment was his nod that it was the same answer. It's his now to post or pass.

My description was masked in metaphor. It should be read as- Satan tries to free his father, the Anti-God, into the prime material plane (Earth), but scientific researchers based in the old church succeed in thwarting it (for now).

Remember, we do all kinds of fantasy films here, not just sci-fi.

Maybe I could have used a better word, but the guy looks like a "man", throughout the whole movie.

Can't think of an old horror movie where a guy benefits from his sister being a hooker.

I didnt say he benefits from it, just that he gets a new life... ;)

A new life doesn't sound like a detriment.

Neither of those films guys. The musician's hands were not cutoff or new ones grafted. No deal with the devil either or anything supernatural, but there is an evil character involved. The scene with his hands is brief, but indicative of a terrible change coming.

No. Actually, Rondo isn't in this film, but there is something unique about him that is.

Is somebody else wearing Rondo's hat? No, if that were true, then it wouldn't be unique to Rondo.

Sorry Mike. 'Unique' was a poor choice of words. I should have put it as the film and Rondo had something in common.  Anyhow, Memph got it. His turn!
