"No information as to which monster will be featured, but the untitled monster thriller provides a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate classic characters. Universal monster films are rooted in the horror genre, with no restrictions on budget, rating, or genre. They are not part of a shared interconnected universe, which allows each film to stand on its own. This new direction is filmmaker-driven, inviting those with original, bold ideas to develop stories and pitch them."

Hope they don't try the Dark Universe crap again. I think they almost got it right with the Wolfman remake. That was in most part to Rick Baker and Benicio del Toro being monster kids. Why can't Universal comprehend this? It's what I think that most fans want, more of the classic vibe. Quit trying to modernize the Classic Monsters. I have to admit tho that the new Renfield movie looks fun. So maybe Im a sort of a hypocrite. But at least they tie it back to the original.

There's a rumor that they're developing a new take on Dracula's Daughter, but no hard evidence of that.

I'm thrilled that we're getting two new Dracula movies from Universal this year, but I'd like to see the other monsters share the limelight. I'd prefer a new Frankenstein or Wolf Man. Not that I'm complaining—more monsters is a good thing. And this could just be a rumor.

Still, it's encouraging that Universal is working with a production company that specializes in horror (haven't seen their Scream movies but loved Ready or Not). Hopefully that means they're planning something closer to The Invisible Man than Dracula Untold.

A few months late but the trailer for this, now called Abigail, was released.

And I can see why they barely mention it being based off of Dracula's Daughter nowadays.

She may be Dracula's daughter, but this has nothing to do with the 1936 film, obviously.

::yawn:: I'm up, I'm up...what happened? Oh, another generic horror movie.
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity...

Initial reviews for the film are coming in and they are pretty positive:

Quote#Abigail is everything I want in a vampire flick: great characters, big laughs, and gallons of blood! The most fun I've had in the theater this year and I'm happy this sub-genre is making a big return. If you like Lost Boys and From Dusk Till Dawn, sink your teeth into this one!

Quote#Abigail is everything I hoped it would be! A fun, twisty & bloody good time

It's funny w/o sacrificing the horror or tone. The film changes things up to keep things alive

The ensemble wins you over from the beginning & it just keeps you entertained  #overlookfilmfestival

Quote#Abigail is a bonkers bloody blast! It's a wild and entertaining ride from start to finish with great performances (especially Dan Stevens, Melissa Barrera, and Alisha Weir). As a big Dracula fan, the opening scene put a big smile on my face.

Well saw it today......and yeah, has nothing to do with the original Dracula's Daughter as expected.

It was pretty decent however. Weir was great as Abigail and Barrera along with Stevens shined in the roles. But the film starts to lose focus by the end and dumps whatever gothic horror it had to turn into Morbius of all films for it's climax. Just with much more blood spilt. Also, this film's Dracula was terrible (could say Asylum-level but their Drac in Monster Mash was way better than this Sleepy Hollow Horseman from Temu).

7/10

I hated it (I know, everyone is shocked, right ;) )
