Since we are posting Halloween updates in this category, I am posting this thread here, too. If the moderators feel this should be relocated, please feel welcome to do so.
The familiar smell of fresh pumpkin roasting over a candle always makes my taste buds tingle in anticipation of the special treats of Halloween. Here are some products that can only be had during the holiday season.

If you like toast in the morning, I heartily recommend the English Muffins. Haven't tried the other two, but the Bagels sound good.

M&M's Candy Corn Flavored White Chocolate.
Haven't tried these. Said to be typical white chocolate with a hint of the Candy Corn flavor. Might be good if you like the flavor of Candy Corn but hate the waxy texture.

So far the one's I've tasted don't taste much like pumpkin OR beer - just takes like something that does not belong together.

The pumpkin spice flavor isn't as strong as I would have liked, but the crunchy roasted pumpkin seeds are a nice touch.
Albertsons is also carrying the full line of Thomas' Pumpkin Spice English Muffins, Bagels and Bread.

I think the Thomas' English Muffins are my favorite so far - That and the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.
That flavored butter looks like it might be pretty good.
And, like the Ben & Jerry's Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream, you can keep it in the freezer and have it for months after the holidays are over.
^Yeah, my wife found a small tub that expired a few months ago the other day. We threw it out of course, but I need to get a new one, as I know they are back in stock by now.

It's a pity we have to put a food thread in Modern Monster Toys for lack of appropriate sections. Not only did The Great Purge wipe out a lot of good content, it also left us without good options for posting. In the long run it's proven to make it less enjoyable for the people who really keep UMA going... us.
I don't want to seem negative. What's done is done and we can't go back. My real point is that we need a General Discussion section again to post everything that doesn't fit anywhere currently. Be it food, video games, superhero comics, whatever. There are many things that are loosely related to monsters that don't have an appropriate posting home in current UMA.

I've had two Pumpkin Pie yogurts. Oikos Greek Style Pumpkin Pie is awesome! Tasted like filling right out of the pie, mixed with a bit of whipped cream. Yoplait Light's Pumpkin Pie was a disappointment. Obviously artificially flavored (whereas the Oikos lists pumpkin puree as its fourth ingredient).

I stocked up on the limited edition Thomas' English Muffins. A friend suggested that I freeze a few packages. I'm giving it a try.

Looked around for the Pumpkin Spice Oreos. They have been out for several years but I have never seen a bag anywhere. I found these Candy Corn Oreos at Target - didn't think I wanted to try them.
By the way, Target had the Ben & Jerry's Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream and Pumpkin Spice Eggos. Think If I toasted an Eggo extra crunchy and put a scoop of the ice cream on top it might be good? (Some people might even put a thin drizzle of caramel and crumbled pecans on top and call it a fancy desert - topping it with a maraschino cherry is purely optional.)
You guys are talking about Halloween-themed treats and pumpkin spice flavored items and no one has mentioned the stuff from Dunkin' Donuts yet? Their pumpkin coffee and doughnuts are great. Just be careful though. Last year, Dunkin' Donuts discontinued all of the pumpkin stuff immediately after Halloween, because they're just that impatient to get the Christmas stuff out.

Target had a ton of different M&M's, in 3 different places. Couldn't find the Pumpkin Spice ones that are being advertised, but the Candy Corn M&M's are back from last year.

If you like the pumpkin spice coffee, there are multiple ways that you could have it imported to your country. If you only prefer hot coffee, then DD does sell the pumpkin spice in Keurig cups. If you really wanted to, you could try using the K cup pumpkin for iced coffee by putting ice in the hot coffee, but I tried that once and it was terrible. If you prefer the iced coffee like me, then DD employees do actually "steal" the pumpkin spice syrup pumps and sell them on eBay
after the flavor has been discontinued for the year. However, this is something that I would only recommend doing at your own risk. Make sure the sellers have good feedback.
As for the doughnuts themselves, that's going to be hard. There are other people who try to make pumpkin doughnuts that are available in run-of-the-mill grocery stores, but I have never tried them and I don't know what companies would make/sell them in Toronto. Dunkin' Donuts is the one thing that I'm actually glad I live in the United States for. With this presidential election crap, I sometimes just want to pack up my bags and head up to Toronto myself (or anywhere else in Canada). ;)

Very sad. Up until about twenty years ago there was a Dunkin' Donuts in Union Station in downtown Toronto but no more. There's one in Place Ville Marie adjacent to La Gare Centrale in downtown Montréal though!

I tried the Little Debbie Pumpkin Rolls and Bat Brownies. I can't recommend them. I wouldn't even put them in a kid's school lunch, although he was making a fuss. The Pumpkin Rolls were filled with way to sweet icing and the Brownies were like year-old fruit cake.
I think the Walmart cream cheese filled Pumpkin Roll looks pretty good. But I'll want to employee a knife and fork when consuming mine.

Fine milk chocolates have a wonderful creamy texture on the tongue.
Most bunny-shaped chocolate lacks that and doesn't have as rich an aroma to entice you to take a bite.
Still, when you are a kid and it is the only chocolate you have...

99.9% of all this brown candy is not real chocolate anyway. Even Hershey's. A real chocolate bar actually costs around $250.00 . You won't see those in your Halloween Bucket.
There is a store in Rockefeller Center in NYC that sells real chocolate at $18.00 a piece. It is amazing stuff.

Not a fan of Pop-Tarts. Really like the Pumpkin Spice Eggos Waffles. Tried the other Eggos after the Pumpkin ones disappeared from stores last year, but didn't care for them.

The yellow/orange color comes from the beta-carotene in the grass the cows eat. They skim off the fat (where the beta-carotene is) from the milk to make butter. That's why the butter is yellow and the cheese is white.

Sometimes a slight yellow, but never orange . Ever see orange milk ? Those orange cheetos and cheezits, and orange chedder cheese logs and bricks are all dyed. I was disappointed at the lack of any licensed Pepsi Universal Monster Displays this year.
But Nabisco has these "bookcase" Frankenstein & Bride displays in a couple local Albertsons Food Stores:

You can see that each free-standing display is made up of 2 bookcase displays stood back-to-back. They are about 6 ft, tall. The heads are positioned just in from of separate backgrounds to give them a 3D effect.
I didn't see anything on them to indicate these are made with Universal's blessing, and I have never seen these cartoon images anywhere else. I wonder what Universal will have to say to Nabisco about this?
(Sorry, I messed up the color on the 2 Bride pictures. I took the Monster pictures facing one way and the Bride pictures facing the opposite direction. I didn't notice the different hues until I got home.)

Nabisco has had licenses with Universal for years. It would not matter anyway ,since they are not selling the displays and the displays do no damage to or infringe on universals marketing. Therefore it would probably fall under fair use of the likenesses.

Nabisco no longer has a licensing deal with Universal, but they have been using generic monsters for advertising in store displays since about 2013. There were some really great displays and box art a few years back that might have gotten the attention of Universal, which may be why they have changed them so much in just a few short years. The first year, I would have sworn they were lifted right from the 1991 style guide. These new ones have just enough differences to slide under the copyright radar.
And I was definitely looking for COKE Universal Monster displays this year, but haven't found any! Pepsi is out of the picture, for now.

Thanks for that info, but darn it, I thought I understood this copyright stuff. We have been dealing with the attorneys, the US copyright office, the printer, Universal Pictures, Comcast, and third parties for some weeks now, and it turns out that only one license is required and after only a few phone calls, it's pretty easy to get a Copyright License Agreement . I really, really wish I could post the paperwork here, but of course it cannot be done. It would surely enlighten most people, that is for sure. And I am going to read it all again myself, or have my attorney read/explain it to me. Ha .

Thanks. Have many color variations and art designs. Using the pink ones for my party, then another company takes over the project in the new year. I had been involved in a toy project years ago. The toy has not done that well and do not want the headache again. I only want to invest in sure things now. Ha

reasonably priced (i.e. CHEAP) repro of the popcorn bucket. I never had one as a kid so there isn't that sense of nostalgia that would make me pay big bucks for an original. The graphics have the cool Monsterkid aesthetic which makes it desirable as cheap eye-candy to add to the collection. You, or whomever, would probably be able to sell several of these as long as the price was right.
Nothing wrong with selling cheap custom repops as long as they aren't misrepresented as originals. Of course there's always a chance that once a bunch of repros were let loose in the marketplace some might eventually be misrepresented by some unscrupulous or ignorant seller. It should be easy to tell a new repop from an original anyway unless some crook decided to "weather" the piece. Years down the road some of the repops might have enough age and wear to make it a little confusing. I would suggest making the repros a slightly different size from the originals to give a definite way for folks to tell the difference.

Skittles is offering customers a trick hiding in their treats this Halloween. Mars Incorporated is introducing "Zombie Skittles" this fall. The limited edition candy will be marketed to those looking for some Halloween fun.
Each package includes a mix of six flavors. Five of them are your standard fruity flavors with Halloween-themed names like "Boogeyman Blackberry" and "Blood Red Berry."
But, the sixth flavor is called "Rotten Zombie." The candymaker describes it as an "utterly disgusting taste experience. Customers will not be able to tell which candy is Rotten Zombie flavor because it will be hidden with the other flavors.

Not strictly a Halloween treat, this autumn edition will serve very well for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I like Maple, but have always found it a little over-powering. I think a couple of these would do well to satisfy any temporary craving for that special taste. Good item to put out on party tables. Everyone will want to have some, but few will want to eat the whole bag at one sitting.

They are the same cheap, waxy chocolate that we get in Easter baskets.
If you can't find them in grocery stores, try the seasonal shelves in large pharmacies. They would have different wrappers, but Palmer probably makes coins for Easter and Christmas, too. I'm sure they don't change the chocolate formula for other holidays - just the outer wrapping.

I think it's the nostalgia. I used to get the monster ones as a kid and these wrappers always delight me.

A few years ago, I bought a box of Count Chocula to try it again since... well, since I was much younger. Either they changed the recipe, or my tastes have changed but it was horrible! I ended up tossing the contents after one bowl.
As a kid, however, I pretty much loved all of 'em!no frosted coating like the good ol' days.

As to the composition of SPAM I would take that over sausage or hot dogs if your being picky (and I will happily eat all of them). I have been eye witness to the process for both many, many times and prior to being formed into the hot dog shape, hot dogs have passed through a long conveyor belt of ALL the nasty pig parts getting discarded from the ham, bacon, pork chops, even the sausage. The hot dog is made from the sludge that is left over from all of that (kind of like Danny DeVito in the movie Twins. Add some food coloring and run it through the hot dog shaper and there you have it. The hot dog.

These have been around for a while. The bag designs are pictured on the box. (The bag graphics change every year.)
I like these little bags of pretzels. I usually just want a few pretzels - but then I get stuck with a whole open bag that gets stale. With these I can have a few at a time and all the rest stay sealed.
I also like the mini pretzels because I can pop the whole pretzel in my mouth at once and avoid all the pretzel crumbs that result from eating a giant Bavarian pretzel.

The marshmallow cupcake glow balls taste like any other color of Hostess snowball, I eat those all year long.
Why can't they redesign the General Mills Monster Cereal boxes? Those are the same as the ones they've had for the last two years, or better yet rerelease Yummy Mummy and Fruit Brute which hasn't happened since 2014.
Worst Hallow-taste news by far is that it appears that Target will NOT I repeat Not have the Hersey's chocolate apples filled with caramel and green apple this year despite being a smash hit for the last two years straight. I checked brick stock, I looked at SKUs at 4 different Target stores for their candy placements and I checked the Hersey's website, not a mention. I report this with deep sorrow because as far as I know they were the single greatest confection ever concocted by mortal man, beyond good, I mean eye-roll and shudder good. So good in fact that they sold out immediately on the day of, I had to go to seven stores to finally find some last year and bought all 10 bags they had when I did. Lament with me monster friends, a tasty fall treat is gone or appears to be.

I don't know if I would chance that as I am allergic to peanuts so if they have similar bags some with nuts some without too risky probably made on the same line. Also those look much larger than the Hersey's ones which were the size of a dollar coin or so.
You don't even chew you just let the chocolate melt in your mouth to experience the caramel apple sensation upon center breakthrough while letting the whole syrupy melted choco-mess slide down your throat. Man, I haven't had one in a year but can still taste it now. Looks like I need to message the Hersey's company and demand some answers. Pure decadence. Few things in life give that sort of indulgent food gratification, a cold beverage of your favorite flavor, a nice bite into a tasty well planned and proportioned sandwich, steaming cheese stretching from you pizza.

One of my favorites was the Rally candy bar. Built along the lines of a Baby Ruth bar, but with better chocolate and caramel. I hated it when they stopped making them.

So evidently the Mars bar sold in Canada is the British version. Unlike the version that was sold in the States, it has no almonds. For a number of years though the American variant of the Mars bar with the almonds was also sold in a white wrapper here in Canada:

Snickers bars in an almond as well as the regular peanut variant are available in Canada though. So are a bunch of other gimmicky Snickers bars to which I pay no attention. Nonetheless I rarely buy Snickers bars of any kind. I much prefer the Mars bar with the almonds.

But Sweet Maries are actually a touch sweeter and thus tastier than Oh Henrys and that's saying a lot! At 60 grams a Sweet Marie bar is a couple of grams smaller than an Oh Henry bar though. It was one of the Willard's brands that Neilson's acquired in the 1970's. Since 1996 Neilson's has been part of the Cadbury conglomerate and sadly most Neilson's chocolate products now carry the Cadbury brand name.

My kids head exploded when I broke out the Monster Mash cereal. He's eaten every morning for breakfast since. My wife isn't on board with that but it's happening regardless.
My brother stocks up every year so he can coast on them for a few months. I got ahold of these fruit snacks for him! They're pretty solid, actually. And $10 for 90 (pretty light) packets is a good price.

Believe it or not, the shape does affect the taste, because the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is different, unlike in M&M's. I myself prefer the eggs, because they are the perfect balance.

You can buy the toy... most of the time. Some managers refuse, but they should let you do it. If you go to one restaurant and they say no, head to another. Just make sure, if the first place was a franchise that refused, don't go to a store in the same franchise.

These aren't contemporary purchases but cool none the less & are purely Halloweeny rather U.M. Have held onto them for about 8-10yrs now.
Here's a beer called 'Hobgoblin' by Wychwood Brewery I used to enjoy (not so much this blonde version they call 'Gold' but the bottle was too nice to pass up). The company used to do excellent labels every year for Samhain, but dropped that 'decadence' on their regular Ruby Hobgoblin Ale during the past two & a bit years hoo-ha for a very crap label instead which is a real pity. Glad I kept the good uns though. Excuse the dust on the bottle.

& here's another shelf sitter I have had for about 10 years. The actual treacle expired 2015, no idea if it would be still good to eat or not, probs fine, though i wont be trying it anytime soon. I have two of these actually, not sure where the other can is. Anyway, love the design of this, goes back to whats now deemed 'Retro Halloween' aesthetic, it does have that bygone era design, but that's what beautiful about it to me. Has a bit a Carni look too, can imagine walking through this as an entrance at a sideshow somewhere 🎃
Not sure if it's something done States side, but when we were kids, one of the party games for Halloween was Treacle slathered crumpets or scones hung up just above nose height on a horizontal string line & you would have to try & compete with friends, siblings, cousins, etc by eating them with your hands behind your back, very messy & much fun 🎃

For the longest time my daughter would only eat dinosaur shaped nuggets. She said they tasted better but I couldn't tell the difference. ;)

I know the best pumpkin pie I ever had was a cheesecake/pumpkin pie. The bottom half was regular pumpkin pie and the top half was vanilla cheesecake. Maybe these taste a little like that, but with more pastry.

Target also has a similar white chocolate candy that is described as being "birthday cake" flavored. They both sound w-a-a-y too sweet for me.

These Target Stores candies seem to be Mars Candy knock-offs. I like the individual wrappings they did for Halloween. The graphics on some of these were also used on very different candies. So, you can't judge their candy by their covers.
My choice would be the Werewolf bar!

Apparently these are a thing. Pop! Candy Universal Monsters. Box lunch has them and you can use BL20 to get them for $7.20 each, but it's random what you get.
