Now that the Yuletide Season is upon us (rather than during Halloween, as the stores would have us think!) I'd like to invite you all to come with me on several visits to Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale:

Tonight (Friday, December 3rd) at 9pm, I'll be appearing again live on the RADIO ONCE MORE webcast. We'll discuss the long, rich radio/audio history of Dickens' classic "ghost story of Christmas," and present complete airings of my 1995 version of the story, Lionel Barrymore's legendary production from 1939, and clips of other Scrooges from Basil Rathbone to Jonathan Winters:

And as some of you may know, I've also written an article on the same subject that was was cut from FM 253 at the 11th hour, but our own Max "Santa Claws" Cheney has graciously hosted it (with many wonderful colorful illos) on his Rondo-winning site:

(For those who like to read the old fashioned way, I've also got a piece in the Autumn issue [with the Art Linkletter cover] of NOSTALGIA DIGEST magazine on newsstands that covers some of the same history from another angle.)

******

For those in the NYC area, on Saturday, December 4th at 8pm, IRON MULE in NYC will present a screening of the film by myself and Jay Stern, "A Christmas Carol - in Eight Minutes":

(Also on the bill: the latest installment of Kevin Maher's "Old People News," with a cameo by me.)

The December "Radio Recall" contains a Radio Log by me listing many of the broadcast CAROLs, from 1922 to 2003, and from Lionel Barrymore to myself:

Lastly, our Quicksilver Radio Theater production is being syndicated to stations again this year by PRX, and is now available on iTunes:

And on that note, "God bless us, everyone!"

P.S. - and of course, many of these Carols are available from me on CD

This is right up my alley!  I love Dickens and I'm a 365 VIP- oooh ahhhh!  Thanks for the heads up- I get all caught up in stuff during the day and never have anything to watch on tv at night, so this will be a real treat!  I love my internet radio/iphone docking station thingie that broadcasts my music all through the house. So tonight I'll be listening to you guys!    :)

Wich2

Thanks, charp!

"See" you there (and drop in by phone, email, or Facebook, if you feel the urge!)

Happy Holidays,
-Craig

I'm totally involved in this story, but I wanted to check in and say how wonderful the actors are and how much fun this is!  Thanks- I posted on Radiooncemore on Facebook!     :)

Wich2!   You really practice what you preach- I did not hear any other "Ebenezer Scrooge" being channeled through your performance.  My husband and I enjoyed this so much! Thank You again for your talented performance and your shared knowledge of this beloved story  :)

Charp (are you the "Charlotte" who Facebooked in during the show?) -

I love the story beyond the power of words to tell, and consider it a sort of sacred honor to play that "squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner." I've had the honor of playing him several times, and hope to again  - though I'll never match Lionel Barrymore's tally!

Your kind words have made my Christmas. Thank you, and please thank you husband for me, for joining us.

Happy Holidays,
-Craig

P.S. - if you'd like to read more about the piece's rich audio history, please visit wonderful Max's site. And to go into even more detail than that, maybe Radio Recall's log?

Yes- I'm the creepy lady from FB   :)    I read Mr. Max's blog and I also heard him on the show last night. Like I said, this is really cool and I am so glad that I was told about this new form of entertainment, I mean "old" form that's now new to me- haha!  Radio once more is awesome. I have been listening Sorcerer Radio and Dis Radio for a couple of years because I work with little kids and the background music they play from the Disney Parks is relaxing. I never thought about looking for other stations - especially old time radio!  It was a real treat to hear a fellow monster lover's performance and we are now big fans! And we also enjoyed the program discussion as well. Thanks again.

>I'm the creepy lady from FB<

Lady, yes; creepy, no!

>I read Mr. Max's blog and I also heard him on the show last night.<

It was ver kind (and very Max) of him, to call in.

>I am so glad that I was told about this new form of entertainment, I mean "old" form that's now new to me- haha!<

As Max, an Illoman, and Elder Robert, and several other UMAers could tell you - there's a whole wonderful world out there - enjoy!

>Radio once more is awesome.<

Neal and Ken really do run a great operation, worthy of support. In the past, I've apppeared on their Live Shows about Orson Welles and Abraham Lincoln; and they've covered the Kennedy assasination, The Shadow, Jack Benny, etc., etc.  Their 24 hour feed is running a wealth of OTR Christmas goodies all this month.

>I work with little kids<

Bless you! There's no more important work.

>It was a real treat to hear a fellow monster lover's performance and we are now big fans! And we also enjoyed the program discussion as well. Thanks again.<

You're welcome - thank YOU.

Happiest of Holidays,
-Craig
