For those of you who plan on attending, here's what my strategy is shaping up to be:
During the day, I'll be passing out Man-Yack Tshirt/Medallion of Dracula handbills dressed like Bud Abbott circa "A&C meet The Mummy" and sporting one of my KHARIS shirts. In the evening, I'll trade my pith helmet in for a red fez and be making as many social calls as possible. I'll be there for the full 3+ days. I shouldn't be hard to spot . . . feel free to stop and say hi and I'll give you a monster button or something.
I've already got some tentative plans to chat with Cortland Hull, Bela Jr. and Bob Burns. Malcolm MacDowell sports one of my medallions in his upcoming VAMPS role, so, a photo-op with him seems like a no-brainer.

Hey Gang
Sorry to been in absentia, but have been working on an intense (size and deadline) project involving Miramax and Lionsgate, so I've been pulling 12 hour days and Saturdays at the office, with any freetime going to Little Man! This is a crunch weekend for their delivery schedule, so I'll be working, but plan on stealing a few hours here and there to visit Monsterpalooza, as I so look forward to meeting Elder Robert, Jeff, Sal, Dan, Perry and anyone else.
If there is an organized UMA gathering, please PM me or send me an email, as I will probably be there Fri Eve, Sat am, and Sunday afternoon as is possible with work. Sat am, I hope to have LM with me--but he has a party to hit in the afternoon. We'll both be sporting black Monster tees.

Highlights of the weekend for me -
Speaking at length with Mike Hill about how he captures the "souls" of his sculptures. His view is so right-on. He captures his subjects in the middle of an action. They are not just wax-museum poses.
Having Robert Picardo tell me a story about his last name, Capt. Picard, and Andy Dick. Hilarious.
Haruo Nakajima - need I say more?
Don, Bill, and Ted's panel on Friday night in the AFM room. Sorry I had to leave early but I had to tend to the main theater (I was tasked with moving the panels off and on).
Triple-feature Saturday night in my friend Kim's hotel room - The Blob, The Curse of Frankenstein, and The Mummy (1959).
Just hanging and talking with the fellas. And the gals.[/li][/list]
I missed very few people. Lucy Chase Williams was there but I failed to meet up with her. No need to go over the crowd issues, but suffice to say it was an incredible, successful show. Thanks to Eliot and everyone who made it possible.

I want Perry to be my personal camera crew from now on. What great photos, Perry! It was a pleasure, as always, to see you at the con. You mentioned Lucy Chase Williams? She was with me!--she had dinner one night with me and the rest of the Sara Karloff gang, in fact. Lucy and her husband Gibby Brand were kind enough to put me up (and to put up with me!) several days at their home while I was in the Los Angeles area. What a kind and generous couple they were, showing me the town before and after the con. Griffith Park Observatory, La Brea, Musso and Frank's, the Ennis House--I can't thank them enough for hauling me all over the place.
What I don't understand is how I missed Danny Roebuck. Definitely a bad miss on my part, Dan. I hope I get out there another time, though. It was a great convention and there was never a lack of people to see and talk to and things to admire (and be horrified at!), but as happens with all good cons, three days were not nearly enough.
I'm in hopes the UMA display will be able to make an appearance at the next Monsterpalooza. What a perfect fit it would be to have the classic monster toys and masks shown among the latex and silicone wonders of an industry-oriented show like this! Monsterpalooza is a perfect bridge from classic to modern horror/sci-fi, and the UMA would look wonderful on that spacious, rock-solid bridge! Guillermo del Toro came to the Sara Karloff table while I was there--a big thrill, that was!--and talked at length to us about how much he loved Boris, and of course he admired UMA member Ray Santoleri's small Karloff busts there, too--and, as you know, he ended up buying the life-size Karloff head that Ray had made (the extra head, that is) for Cortlandt Hull's WITCH'S DUNGEON display. I can't help but wonder what a tremendous monster-kid like del Toro would make of the fangtastic UMA classic toy display--I think he'd love it. Heck, he might even decide to join the army!

Cool shots Gillman-fan!! And what a thrill it must have been to present that beautiful medallion to Bela Jr.! What did he say?? Did you get to talk to him much?? Did he mention anything about his dad? (pant pant pant)
Bela Jr. was a very soft spoken and genteel fellow. We had talked several times on the phone prior to this show but meeting him and presenting my framed piece was quite a thrill . . . I could barely contain myself for that photo! We talked a little shop but he was pretty swamped with other people.
Awesome photos folks! You did it, I am now putting Monsterpalooza on my to do list for next year! Looks like too much fun to pass it up.
It sure was great to finally meet and have cocktails with Elder Robert Taylor. Evenings after the show spent with him, Sarah Karloff, Cortlandt Hull (and his crew) are my fondest memories from the whole trip.
