Scatter made me do it...
« on: July 06, 2010, 10:04:59 PM »
Okay, i'm not in the habit of posting pix of models i've made in the past, because i'm embarrased by all the truly talented builders who post here regularly, but i recently sent Scatter's son an unbuilt Monogram Creech kit and included these pics of my built up to use as a paint guide. Scatter insisted i share them with the group, so blame him for what you're about to see...

Gasport, I don't know what you're embarresed about, he looks great!

As far as the really talented guys here? I just chalk them up to being "cheaters". Basically if you can do something better than me, you've obviously cheated lol.

All kidding aside, the belly of the Creature..did you mask that off before you painted it, or where you just really carefull with the brush work? The precision and the color contrast there kick butt!

Holy crap! Well, i gotta admit...i'm flabbergasted by this response!! I think a lot of the appeal of these pics is due to the time of day i chose to film it. Just as the sun was starting to go down. Not to mention the record breaking heat here on Long Island today...temps topped the 100 degree mark! I'm surprised the kit didn't melt!!

Black Lagoon & Bogey...yes, the painting method i used for this [and my Godzilla  reissue kit] was to first spray paint the figure w/metallic gold paint, followed by another coat of transparent green gloss. This totally made the scales pop out from under and provided a consistently overall wet look. I used Vaseline on the gold under belly and wiped it off afterward, leaving the smooth gold spay paint intact. All totally by accident. The rest was done in acrylic water based brush paints.

Thank you all for your wonderful feedback...no wonder why i love this group!

This is an excellent Creature and I'm impressed by the innovative technique you used on him.  I haven't tried using Vaseline as a masking agent before, now I'm going to have to try it. Did the paint sprayed on the petroleum jelly dry or was it still wet when you wiped it off? Keep up the great work. We want to see more of your models.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

The thread title terrifies me.  Think of what horrors Scatter could possibly 'make' someone commit.  This was a pleasant suprise.  Nice job.

I know. It USED to be "The devil made me do it" until I kicked his arse and took over. I'm going to try the new powers on the wife tonight.

As for the Creech, I TOLD YOU IT WAS COOL GASPORT.

Never doubt me again.

BTW, how great do you all think it was for Jordan to get a package in the mail yesterday, completely out of the blue, containing a Creech model to build, a dozen stickers of classic Universal movie posters, a keychain with a skull, and a cd and DVD of Zacherly goodness from Zach's good friend Gasport??

Stuff like that will MAKE a 9 year old's whole summer!! MANY MANY thanks Mike. YOU, sir, ROCK!! Unfortunately, now Jordan keeps asking me why the folks at the UMA are nicer to him than I am. I told him it's because they don't have to live with him.  ;D
