Monster Machine by Gabriel?
« on: February 28, 2008, 04:46:13 PM »
As a child one of my favorite toys was Shaker Makers. Lately I've been seeking out the many different playsets that were released back in the day. While performing one of those searches I came across this Monster Machine by Gabriel which looks to be similar in nature. It came with five molds include Frankenstein's Monster, Bigfoot, Hornagor, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Galaxogg and was released circa 1977.
Anybody remember this or even played with it as a child?

Never saw this one but *loved* Shaker Maker! One time my Grandma commissioned me to make about a dozen Pluto Pups and paint them, and then she used them as place settings for a dinner party she was throwing. What a Grandma; I miss her sooo much!

One of my favorite childhood toys!  I still remember mixing the plaster of paris, which was known as MUCK.  I remember being very careful not to waste the "muck" because I didn't know at the time it could have easiliy been bought at our local arts and crafts store.  I remember we'd have Monster Machine Nights (similar to what I hold now with friends called Model Night) with my mom and dad and we'd all make a bust.  I think I did enough Frankensteins to have an army of them.

Monster Machine was the coolest! Thanks for sharing!

A buddy of mine had the Monster Machine.  I STILL want one. LOL!
He also had another set of some kind for making molds of body parts, like fingers and toes, and them you poured them up in some kind of material (I want to say it was a greenish color). Have no idea what it was called but I'm still on the hunt for one of my own! LOL

I'm glad you guys remember this playset. Now that there's some Shaker Maker fans in the house, I've got a funny story for you guys. Like I said, I've been buying vintage Shaker Maker playsets and about a three months ago I won two vintage refill packs that contained 5 packets of powdered mix in each. I figured how hard could it be to make one? It's like riding a bike, right? Well, I decided to open one and give it a try. Unfortunately, after shaking my ass off all I was left with was a pile of goop all over my kitchen table and my clothing when it started to spurt out the sides of the mold. Of course my two nine year old nieces thought this was a riot. :P I guess sitting on a shelf for 30 years rendered this stuff inactive.  ;D
Once I find a Shrinky Dinks playset I'll have a perfect trifecta with another of my childhood favorites, the Shrunken Head playset. Lots of great memories with this one too. Thanks for replying guys!

Shrinky Dinks kit?
You mean this one?

You can see my apple head kit in the back (that I still play with, by the way. LOL)

Yep, that'd be the one. You don't see too many of these Shrinky Dink sets around or at least I don't. Very nice.
