AHIMike

Hi. I'm Mike L. This a great site that I've been reading, but finally got my act together and joined. I grew up loving anything monster related - The Munsters, The Addams family (live action and cartoon) and especially the Movie Monsters. I had an AHI Frankenstein and Dracula as a kid along with a remco Frankenstein and Mummy. For some reason, I thought the AHIs were much better. I'm currently recollecting AHIs. I still have my original two, but am slowly adding more.

Hi all! Mike Lawyer here, 39 year old fan of classic horror since I was a kid. I love Japanese monsters, Universal, Hammer and AIP as well as pretty much all horror and sci-fi movies made between the 30s and 70s, and I do have a fondness for more recent stuff from the 80s to today, but my true love is the Golden and silver ages of the 30s-70s. Even though i am younger than most monster boomers, I grew up in the same environment that prevailed in the late 50s, 60s and 70s for most of the boomers. A local UHF station started up in 1981 when I was 120 years old and they had a show called Theater Bizarre every friday night which showed a triple bill of horror and sci-fi movies and they showed everything from Universal, hammer, AIP, AIP's Japanese monster releases, even some Spanish Paul Naschy movies! there was no on screen host, but they had a very cool animated opening and theme music and an off screen narrator. Around this time Monogram reissued the "Big 4" Universal monster Aurora kits and one of my favorite memories is buying Frankenstein and the Wolf Man the week that Theater Bizarre showed both films. I put the kits on top of the TV during the movies. Later we got a second UHF station that ran a slew of great movies as well as Elvira's Movie Macabre. I have always been artistic and used to sketch the monsters while watching the movies because we did not have a VCR yet, and even after getting one, i used to pause the tape and draw the monsters. As an adult I still do the same thing, only the sketches and paintings look alot better. I also LOVE building model kits and am thrilled about the recent resurgence of the plastic kit with so many classic kits being reissued and great new ones coming out as well. Anywho, I think i am going to love being a memeber of the Universal Monster Army!
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

I was just reading a bio of the great character actor Victor Buono.............and it mentioned that he played TAFT in the miniseries "Backstairs At The Whitehouse".

KOSARTeffects

Hello UMA!

My name is J. Anthony Kosar, but on different forums and sites, you can find me at the username KOSARTeffects.  I am a 24 years old artist who specializes in fine art, illustration, sculpture, and special effects.  I started doing Make-up FX since Jr. High, and made my first foam-latex mask the Zombie when I was 16 as a sophomore in High School which is when I really consider my start.  Since then, I have created make-up, effects, creature suits, and props for numerous plays, commercials, conventions, feature and short films, and has held several Make-up and Effects workshops and seminars throughout the Chicagoland area, and even in Las Vegas.

In 2007, I had the chance of a lifetime to intern at Stan Winston Studio where I worked on several projects including the films INDIANA JONES 4 and James Cameron's AVATAR, with the opportunity to meet the master himself before he passed away.

Currently, I mostly do illustration and fine art as that is what I studied in college, mostly working on comic book covers and some hyper-realist noir interiors. In Fine Art, I was one of Watercolor Artist Magazine's 2009 Top Ten "Ones to Watch."   Also currently, I have been designing and sculpting Halloween masks for Zagone Studios (formerly Be Something Studios) since 2008.  Heres an image that shows the different types of work I do...
