I've been listening to The Surfaris, The Meteors & The Ventures, lately.

Hey Jeff-  That shot was taken in Green Bay, Wisconsin, spring of 2005 (if my memory serves me right). He signed my jacket in silver ink, too....you can see LINK on my left breast pocket.

Surf guitar is the Ultimate guitar sound, and there are so many great groups.
But, some of my faves are....
1. Satan's Pilgrims
2. Los Straitjackets
3. Ventures
4. Trashmen
5. Surfaris
6.The Phantom Surfers
7. Ghastly Ones
8. Count Five(5)
9.The Surfites

I'll also give a shout out to Billy Strange . . . even though he's the "Pat Boone" of this genre.

I got to see Man Or Astroman when they gave a free 45min. concert at a used record store in Kansas City. This had to be 10+ yrs ago. Great Stuff!

I love love love Surf rock. I have seen Dick Dale, the Ventures, Manor Astroman and Los Straitjackets live, some of them multiple times. We have an excellent surf band here in Richmond called the Red Hot Lava Men who play a few times every year. (I don't think they have any recording out tho.)
I always liked Robert Colbert's surf inspired Blue Whale songs from the original Dark Shadows show a lot.

My music is for Phoenix. Only she can sing it. Anyone else who tries, dies.

If you also like the sound of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, you should take a listen to a compilation album called "Surfin' Senorita", which surfizes some classic HATB tunes.

There's a surf comp of Burt Bacharach songs that's pretty good, too. Also, "for a few guitars more," an album of Ennio Morricone covers by surf bands (though the songs themselves don't come out very surfy).

Yep, another Misfits related post!

Whilst going thru some more horror punk bands today I came across a German punk band called The Crimson Ghosts but something very odd was happening when I was listening to their songs.  Half would be straight up punk and then half would be surf rock!??  Turns out there is an American band from Boston called The Crimson Ghosts that do Misfits covers surf style!  They have 3 cds;

13 Ghosts Tribute To The Misfits (2000)

Some Kinda Hits (2004)~cover by Eerie Von

and the Earth E.P. (2008)

Fan of The Misfits?  Fan of surf rock?  Even if you're only one or the other they're worth checking out!  I always feel if you're going to bother doing covers then do something different, mix it up.  A lot of these songs are straight surf rock carry overs but then they throw you a loop and do something like Astro Zombies, very slow, very mellow definitely not The Misfits version.

London Dungeon~

Skulls~
13 Ghosts - Skulls

Astro Zombies~
13 Crimson Ghosts - Astro Zombies
This guy has 9 of the songs found on this album!

And if you like (or can stomach) country/western, Unknown Hinson and Junior Brown are fantastic guitarists

I'm surprised to see you mention Unknown Hinson.  He's from my neck of the woods.  He had a local access cable TV show here in Charlotte called the Wild, Wild South.  They had some funny stuff on there and wild music.  His partner in crime died and he changed the name to the Unknown Hinson Show.

I was just searching on here to see if there were any other surf fans, and I'm very pleased to see that a lot of you are!  I guess it's no surprise, as a lot of surf goes hand in hand with monsters.  I collect a lot of surf and garage records.  The Ghastly Ones are my favorite surf group.

On a side note, isn't this Bomboras cover one of the best damn record covers you've ever seen?

Inkfink

ABSOLUTELY! That along with The Ghastly Ones A-Haunting we will Go-Go could have been the beginning of great things!!! Zombie A Go-Go folded too quickly!

Live with this tune by Satan's Pilgrims for awhile...

I know. One thing about Rob Zombie (as a record producer anyway) is that he didn't skimp on cover design--it always blew me away that besides the cover, they created vintage-looking game box covers for every track on the album.
